The Stock Check – Gameweek 37 – Wednesday

Southampton and Manchester United grind out a goalless draw at St Mary’s as Manolo Gabbiadini’s Fantasy misfortunes go from bad to worse in the penultimate match of double Gameweek 37.

On the Rise

Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens
The only defender to survive Claude Puel’s double Gameweek tinkering, Yoshida retained his role to start for the nineteenth successive league outing in last night’s clash with Man United.

A total of nine points accrued across the pair of matches against Middlesbrough and United was more than any member of the Saints’ backline as the St Mary’s outfit collected a fifth clean sheet in 10 attempts.

Owned by a mere 5% of FPL managers, Yoshida has now delivered 33 points in his previous six home appearances. He looks a secure final-day pick at home to a Stoke City side that has failed to score in six of their previous seven on the road.

Stephens was rested for the first match of the double only to return to the Southampton XI last night and earn two bonus points.

The youngster’s ability to collect bonus is key here. He has earned 10 additional points over those five clean sheets, compared with Yoshida’s five bonus across the same fixtures – potentially a decisive factor for those currently holding both and mulling over which to bench for the Stoke match. Southampton now have three shut-outs in four with Stephens and Yoshida in the heart of defence.

Over 62,000 FPL managers owned both Yoshida and Stephens, benefiting from 17 points over the Gameweek 37 fixtures.

In Decline

Manolo Gabbiadini
Rested for the weekend win at Middlesbrough, the Italian returned to Puel’s starting XI against the Red Devils.

But as far as his loyal 8% owners are concerned, Gabbiadini may as well have warmed the bench for all the good he did.

Failing quite spectacularly as a double Gameweek asset, the winter signing stepped up to miss a penalty and deliver zero points over the Saints’ pair of fixtures before being hauled off just after the hour-mark to put his chastened ownership out of their misery.

Gabbiadini, essentially, provided a meagre four points across back-to-back doubles and now has just a single assist in his last seven league outings – a far cry from the form that harvested four goals in his first three Gameweek appearances.

Over 18,000 FPL managers have already sold him out ahead of the home encounter with Stoke – yes, he may well start, but judging by last night’s output that clearly guarantees little going on the striker’s current form.

David de Gea
United’s most popular FPL player and the third most-owned (33%) in the game, the Spaniard missed out altogether as his side chalked up a sixteenth clean sheet of the campaign – level with Chelsea and second only to Spurs’ 17.

Those still holding De Gea will now need to rely on their second keepers or dip into the market after Jose Mourinho confirmed that the Spaniard will play no further part in the season.

“David? I think the first match against LA Galaxy in pre-season in Los Angeles. I hope to play Joel Pereira against Crystal Palace, I hope to play Sergio in the final and hopefully, we don’t have problems with these two keepers”.

With Eric Bailly limping off last night and Mourinho revealing his intentions to field a number of youngsters in Sunday’s clash with Palace ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Ajax, there’s no surprise to see owners of the likes of Antonio Valencia (14,000+) and Marcus Rashford (18,000+) already selling and seeking alternatives.

Ga00iadini was real disaster but when I look at players who could replace him in my team I don't feel so bad.

    1. Costa 2 pts
    2. Anichebe 1 pt
    3. Lukaku 2 pts
    4. Rashford 2 pts

More expensive players would mean Gabriel (0pt) in place of Monreal (7pts)!
Maybe just Anichebe in would give me money to upgrade but that would probably by Yoshi > MU/City/Spurs so not an upgrade really or Pedro > Sane so only just that one would cost me 8pts if I went that road.

To echo the sentiments by Paul, Gabbiadini failed quite spectacularly. I think he is more likely to yield 0 or negative points than anything else at this point. I saw something in his eyes before taking that penalty, his confidence must be at rock bottom.

Anyway to summarise, I'm shipping and for a hit! Thinking of doing:

Pointless, but also harmless if it's done with a degree of humility.

I remember someone had a gut feeling about Stanislas doing well before GW8 - they reminded everyone but in a humble way and it was nice.

There's a bit too much stating opinion as fact on here if you ask me.

happens IRL too unfortunately, if you start a point with 'I think' or 'In my opinion' some people think it's weak or that you lack conviction. Those same people say 'FACT' after stating an opinion, which is incredibly annoying.

Who would you captain out of those:

    a) Pedro
    b) Hazard
    c) Sane
    d) Giroud

Giroud if forced to choose one of those.

C or D. Both have something to play for and are at less risk for rotation.

Bit of an odd question (because I'm playing AOA in one of the options):

    Which scored more points:

    A) Hazard + Vert/Yoshida
    B) Pedro + Llorente

Currently 40K OR (MLs sewn up with 50+ point leads). Feel like Sterling to Lallana might be a better way of upping the OR, as opposed to taking a hit to get Coutinho in. Thoughts?

Cheers, feel like Lallana could be a pretty big differential (obviously I'll be in strife if Coutinho explodes again!)

I've won my main ML (only 18 in it, but friends etc so happy for the season already)

However, I've also got a slim lead over 2 others (10 points & 8 points) in a bigger 80 member ML which would be nice to win but I don't really know that many folk in it.

All 3 contenders including me have Hazard.

I guess I've got to keep & play Haz, as they will probably keep, or ship for Coutinho.

Therefore I need to bring in Coutinho for

    A) Alli

    Or

    B) Sane

One rival has Alli, neither has Sane. The other differentials don't worry me really.

Which one to go? Gotta be Sane I guess?

18 points is nothing that could easily be caught in the final week, don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Sorry mate, my bad explaining, 18 players in ML, 150 point lead in that one

It's a week until the FA Cup final why won't Conte play his strongest squad? Chelsea are absoulutely going to spank Sunderland, big risk taking out any Chelsea assests.

Perhaps, but Liverpool will probably spank Boro and Coutinho is nailed, Hazard very unlikely to get a full game. Keeping Alonso and Costa

I think Hazard is the only real concern. I don't have him and would have looked to bring him in if Chelsea still had something to play for. But it's easy not to bring him in now. I'd be um-ing and ah-ing until Sunday afternoon if I had him though

      ps Keeping (C)osta

I'm keeping and playing Haz & Alonso. Shipping Cahill for an Arsenal def for variety. Then Alli or more likely Sane to Coutinho (2 FT).

Risky both ways with the Chelsea trio.

    Caballero, Jakupovic
    Cahill, Davies, Smith, Robertson, Stephens
    Sanchez, Hazard, Alli, King, Carroll
    Kane, Vardy, Jesus

    1FT, 0.3 in bank

    A) Alli / Hazard -> Coutinho
    B) Robertson -> Mawson

    2FT, 0.1 ITB

1 - hazard and gabbi to siggy and sturridge
2 - hazard and gabbi to coutinho and lorente
3 - Ozil and king to courinho and lallana, bench gabbi
5 - Ozil and gabbi to lallana and giroud
