Forget The Beach – ICC Fantasy Cricket Is Here

Fantasy Premier League is over for another season, but there’s now a chance to fill the aching void…with cricket.

The ICC Champions Trophy Fantasy League will revolve around the eight-team one-day international competition being held in England and Wales from June 1-18.

The deadline for the initial selection of squads for the game will be June 1 at 10am UK-time.

Full details, including the scoring system, are available via this link, but here’s a quick look at the rules of the game and a pointer to the sides you’ll be picking from.

Selection

Every player has been valued between 2 and 10. You must select 11 players from a budget of 75, ensuring the following team composition criteria is met:

2-5 Batsmen

1-3 Wicket-keepers

1-4 All-rounders

2-5 Bowlers

Once you’ve selected your team, you’ll need to select a Power Player.

Your Power Player scores double points and is therefore crucial to your overall chances. You can make an unlimited number of Power Player changes during the tournament.

Transfers

The ICC Champions Trophy is different from the Cricket World Cup as it’s a much smaller tournament played over a considerably shorter time frame.

As a result, managers will have to make transfers carefully while reacting quickly – thinking on your feet could prove decisive.

Up until the start of the tournament on June 1, you can make unlimited transfers for free.

During the Group Stage, you’ll have a maximum of 20 transfers to use.

The teams have been divided into two groups of four who will play each other in a Round Robin format, with the top two from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. As a result, the Group Stage will consist of a total of 12 matches in which to use those 20 transfers.

Between the end of the Group Stage and the first semi-final, you can make unlimited transfers. Between the first and second semi-finals, you can then make another four transfers.

Before the final, you can again make unlimited transfers.

The transfer deadline is 30 minutes before the scheduled start of a match. Transfers made after this time will not become active until the following match.

Unused transfers will not roll over.

The Teams And Their Stars

Let’s have a quick look at the teams and their key players.

Group A

Australia
The World Cup winners come into the tournament after a good season for some of their players in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
Key players: David Warner, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Chris Lynn.

Bangladesh
Once the minnows of international cricket, Bangladesh have come a long way since then, but it’s going to be tough for them to reach the knock-out stages.
Key Players: Tamim Iqbal, Shaqib AL Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman.

England
The hosts are one of the favorites to win this time. The squad looks well-balanced in all aspects and the home conditions are an added advantage.
Key Players: Alex Hales, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes.

New Zealand
The Black Caps have always have a decent record in ICC tournaments and could be set for another excellent campaign.
Key players: Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, James Neesham and Mitchell Santner.

Group B

India
The defending champions go into the tournament with a squad that’s almost there, but a lack of a quality all-rounder and no recent international one-day cricket could affect them.
Key Players: Virat Kohli, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, R.Ashwin, Ahinkya Rahane.

Pakistan
The most unpredictable team when it comes to big tournaments. They possess some of the most experienced players but blow hot and cold – occasionally in the same match.
Key players: Azhar Ali, Mohammed Aamir, Mohammed Hafeez and Wahab Riaz.

Sri Lanka
The retirement of some world-class senior players has left a big void in the team, which is yet to be filled.
Key Players: Angelo Matthews, Lasith Malinga, Thisara Pereira and Dinesh Chandimal.

South Africa
Perhaps the unluckiest team in world cricket, that luck (or the lack of it) will again be tested in the only major one-day tournament they’ve ever won.
Key Players: Hashim Amla, AB De Villiers, Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada.

The Venues

One of the key aspects in cricket is the pitch, so the venue for each match will be important.

The tournament will be spread across three grounds – Cardiff, Edgbaston and The Oval.

It is highly advisable to consider the pitch and weather reports at those venues before making your team selections.

Happy playing!

Dreams Can captain goalkeepers at will.

Bumrah is more than nailed, bhuvi has brilliant form and is very useful is english conditions, knockout between shami and umesh, shami got 3 wickets against nz too, too much of a risk to pick a non- nailed player

Finch Warner Smith Head Maxwell Wade nailed.

Head has performed well and will probably get the nod but Lynn is one of the biggest hitters in cricket at the minute. New to the team and hopefully over all his shoulder injuries that have kept him out for so long. impressed in the IPL as did head but certainly one for the future. I would still want an explosive Lynn in the team but I am not the captain or a selector.

Cheers mate. Mathews scored large v Aussie in the warm up game & should bat high up the order & be in early so I've picked him because as captain he's nailed every game & will get runs. Hales is going to score a ton v Bangledesh & is in form & Roy is greatly out of form & he may even get dropped for Bairstow. I am actually considering Morgan over Hales but if England bowl first & skittle Bangladesh the top 3 could be the only ones who get a bat.

I would go 4 England players. With 11 more games 2 transfers per game transfer 2 England players out for game 2. I have been stung in the past saving transfers only to see a couple of days of rain and unused transfers. If stokes gets to bowl he is an obvious choice for captain game 1, bats at 5 and with a point for each dot ball bowlers are going to get 25 points for dots, plus he gets his fair share of catches. Take him out for Warner game 2. Mathews is the only player I would get from Sri Lanka. How Bairstow can't get in the side is unbelievable. Roys last 7 scores are 0, 20, 44, 1, 1, 8, and 4 hardly inspires confidence.

Flat wicket you would think big runs. Not expecting cloud cover so I am going for top 4 batsmen. But saying that Sharma, Rahane and the whole Bangladesh team failed Today on it.

Just gone thru the point rules and according to me- Y not go for more bowlers than batsmen...they can give you more points than a batsmen..Specially death bowlers who can easily take 3 wkts and give u more points than a half centurion batsmen... I m going with this combo-
    2 Batsmen
    1 WKT
    3 AR
    5 Bowlers

in 50 overs, a batsman has greater chances of scoring more points due to the advantage of being able to pace an innings together..

T20 is much more advantageous to a bowler imo

I have experienced the opposite, bowlers hardly score any points in T20s, they have ridiculously limited opportunities there, unless someone bowls a dream spell like Malinga or Narine....
10 overs is a lot of time to match a batsman's output, unless the batsman scores a double century and then its impossible....
        Just an opinion...

Bowlers do have time to bowl dot balls. Unless they pick a wicket or two, you cannot expect them to give high returns. Add to these, there are negative points for extras. And only 5 points for a maiden.
A batsman can easily make up for 6 dot balls with 2 boundaries.

Atleast they are certain to bowl 60 bowls to take a wicket or two(atleast to compensate on negatives if smacked).
Batsmen can score a 20 ball 10 and give u nothing.. Specailly the slow starters like Rohit/Smith/Root

Batsmen don't have a negative point for a dot ball. It'd be highly risky to depend on bowlers for points. Have experienced it before.

I am just saying that a bowler has better chance in 50 overs to match a batsman's output than in T20, of course the ceiling for batsman is always higher, and yeah wickets will have to be taken for bowler to score points.
Which also makes batsmen safer captaincy options than bowlers......

scoring 50's is a piece of cake in england these days. rain factor being overplayed imo expect plenty of 100s

plus it's easier to predict which batsmen will get bigger scores than which bowlers will end up with 3-4 wickets

For ur point on batsmen prediction..I think it is also uncertain- Like in England squad Hales/Root/Morgan/Butler/Stokes all are in good good form.. And if Hales/Root give u a partnership Morgan/Butler/Stokes may not get enough balls to face..
For bowlers it is almost certain that the death and front line bowlers - Starc/Woakes/Bumrah/Rabada will give you good returns...

5 bowlers is overkill. They may get smacked around the park as well. Better to load up on all rounders, then batsmen and then bowlers.

I was thinking the same but all rounders who will bowl 10 overs Especially with the captaincy. 25 dot balls from 10 overs and a wicket is 45 points. average figures nothing exceptional. A few runs with the bat will be a bonus. Batsman doing the same average game will get about 35 points not including 5 points for a win.

"The transfer deadline is thirty minutes before the scheduled start of a match..."

Does this mean deadline will be fixed for every match as 30 min prior (9:00 or 12:00 GMT) to the time they are scheduled to start or will it be 30 min prior to 'scheduled start' on that particular day(due to delayed/rain curtailed match)?

Which 2 allrounders would you pick out of these 4:
    (a) Morris
    (b) C. Anderson
    (c) Hardik Pandia
    (d) Jadeja

I'm excluding Stokes as he's carrying a knee injury & may not bowl much & England may only need the top 3 batsmen if they bowl first & skittle Bangladesh. I'm discounting Al-Hasan because lets face it Bangladesh are poor & he's been out of form lately. Thanks.

You want bowlers who bowl in the first 10 overs, but not at the death IMO. Usually the scoring rate is slower in the first 30 overs than the last 20 overs. So better economy rate generally. Also, in England, more likely to take wickets with the new ball (at least in the beginning, before the pitches get worn / overused).
