The Big Numbers – Gameweek 1

Time to roll out our first post-Gameweek delve into the 2017/18 members’ data and assess some of the stand-out performers over the opening round of matches.

Tottenham’s top scorer misses chances aplenty as the transfers-out pick up pace. Man City’s front two and Liverpool’s summer signing from Roma arrive for analysis, while Chelsea and Palace’s left wing-backs also make the cut thanks to forward-thinking performances.

I just don't get the Ramsey love. Seems to have spiralled out of control on here. Will all end in tears.

    Not nailed.
    Not suited to current system.
    Injury prone.

True... Ramsey didn't even start the match and people have assumed he will start and score big..
he plays in defensive pivot even if starts

This place has great advice. But you have to be careful. Most are sheep. It's very easy for one person's bad pick to get backed by the flock

If anything id say the ramsey pick is extremely unsheeplike, more of a maverick pick.

I like him we have seen what he is capable of as a box-to box-mid , he has a free roaming role in this new formation and has been very effective from the end of last season when they switched to 3 at the back as displayed in some very impressive stats.

And that has nothing to do with if people like him on here...

It may have started as a maverick pick, but it's not that any more.

I haven't even been on here. It's between him and Gross for me depending on what I want to do with the 1.5m if I go Gross

I like Gross and based on what i saw on first game against Man City he can turn out to be decent value ..

Hard to say then. I would prefer both Knocky and Ritchie to Ramsey and they are 1m cheaper. Would rather Knocky than Gross for the .5m as well

            1. Lawrø
              • 12 Years
              6 years, 10 months ago

I already have Ritchie. Maybe you should watch Gross play before you say you'd prefer Knockaert! 😀

Ramsey was a good choice before the season started, he was in some of my drafts before he was a doubt... Why isn't he suited to the system? I thought he looked rather good when Arsene played three at the back last season. Why is he not nailed long term?

I watched Knockaert all last year. He is the life of that Brighton side. Influential springs to mind. Gross may be great, But I will review in 6 weeks or so.

Not nailed because he hasn't been nailed for a long time. Xhaka is nailed, Elneny is improving, Coquelin and Wilshere both returning. He has a good chance of starting I agree. But he ain't nailed.

He said he preferred Knockaert precisely because he hasn't seen Gross play yet. 'Go with what you know' is a sensible policy.

You've got two groups looking for a £7m midfielder. Those with Zaha and those with Fabregas\Willian.

      Agree with your bullet points.

I had zaha and fabregas, both will drop ,which at gw2 is akin to losing 1.0m,so instead of going sideways to get another 7.0 ive got matic (not great esp for -4) and invested the other 2.0m in salah ,I think its fair to thank matic for all the points salah will get, and do you know what with utd camped in the opponents half for most of the games and with him far more prominent at corners than mikhi eg I reckon matic may even contribute himself,*pats himself on the back*

He may very well keep his place when Clyne is back if he keeps playing like he do now. I think he only going to get better.
Clyne could play CL and the other cups, and backup in PL.

        1. The Tinkerman
          • 8 Years

          Possibly.

If Salah was actually clinical his numbers would be insane, and he wouldn't be at a team like Liverpool. So I guess his wastefulness comes with the territory. Still one of my favourite players since his Basel days.

Last night's game showed he's forced to shoot on his weaker foot. Obviously that won't always be the case but I'm pretty sure it was how it panned out last night. It makes him look wasteful. I know he's very popular on here but I'm already thinking of ditching after this week.

Thoughts on Willian guys? I can't quite understand why so many are bringing him in. Sure he is a straight 7m swap for Zaha, but he is in a Chelsea squad in disarray, playing away at Spurs next, plus Pedro and Hazard set to return. Also Chelsea are clearly in the market for new players and Conte didn't rate Willian last year so what is different this year? Other than necessity of course. Thoughts?

He was Chelsea's best attacker and he is 7m. Obviously only nailed until after the international break though. I guess those getting him now will WC after that, I will and I'm happy to own him now.

I have Ritchie currently.. But getting Zaha out for Atsu too with the aim of upgrading Ritchie in a few weeks. Can see both punching above their weight for 5 weeks so either will be a good option.. Atsu from open play and Ritchie from set pieces. I'd recommend Atsu though since it's easier to bench him when Carroll's fixtures improve next week

Who are people thinking as the best 4.5 def for the next few weeks?

I was thinking Manquillo, he had a decent game against Spurs, and Newcatsle looked pretty solid until the Shelvey Red.

This is probably a bias view. But I have Lejeune who is now out for weeks.

Who are people starting this week?

    Foster away at Burnley
    or
    Elliot away at Huddersfield

Flip of a coin... both decent from set pieces. I would say Foster since he will be better protected by West Brom defence

      It's a close one isn't it. I think I'll plump for Foster.

        Very:

        WBA : bur -62
        NEW : hud 98

Even I am troubled. I'm with Foster at the moment, because of Newcastle injuries, and Huddersfield form.

Yep the injuries swing it. Both probably won't get cleanies anyway.

2 injuries to Newcastle Def would suggest going for the safer option in Foster.

Talk to me about Son. Nailed, now that he's back from injury, right?

    a) Salah and Atsu

    b) Ramsey and Willian

Have Firmino but no other Arsenal or Chelsea attack

I like Wijnaldum, 3 home games in next 4, should be nailed

I'd go Tadic, Wijnaldum looks awful at the moment, I aren't convinced he'll stay in the team. Milner may replace him if he's not careful.

    Hi Guys,

Can you brief me about the chips this year... from what I see All out Attack is gone and we have free hits, so... we have again 2 WC + Free hits which means 3WC correct?

yeah you know the free hit chip, does the team go back to the way it was before all the transfers or does it act as a wild card?

Free hits is like a WC but for 1 GW only. Best to use it for GWs with lots of blanks imo.

What does it mean for 1 week only...

once the GW is done, you will get back the team you had before using the chip

    Just out of interest:

    A) Lacazette, David Silva, Loftus-Cheek/Carroll rotation
    B) De Bruyne, Ramsey, Mounie
