Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Sunday did its best to provide incident and excitement, although it was always going to be difficult to follow on from yesterday’s spoils. An unexpected Manolo Gabbiadini brace stole the show, while assists for budget midfielders provided the rest of the Fantasy fare, as defences buckled in both matches.

Gross the provider once again

Brighton has now scored six goals this season, with Pascal Gross involved in five of them.

The German claimed his third assist of the season with his interception that lead to Anthony Knockaert‘s sweetly struck opener.

Gross took an ownership 14.1% into Gameweek 8, having been signed by over 109,000 new managers, although another 68,000 saw fit to move him out. They may be regretting that decision this evening after another steady six-point return from the budget midfielder.

It was Knockaert who went into the campaign considered our most likely attacking option in the Seagulls ranks. But the Frenchman has been on the periphery until today. He fired a first goal of the season on his recall to Chris Hughton’s starting XI following his benching at Arsenal.

Both midfielders can build on Sunday’s points over a continued run of favourable fixtures over the next four Gameweeks. Hughton’s men face visits to West Ham and Swansea, while Southampton and Stoke are the next visitors to the Amex Stadium.

However, that run is more likely to promote interest in the Brighton defence and, intriguingly, we may have a new budget option available to us.

Shane Duffy was forced off with what looked like a thigh problem to be replaced by Uwe Huenemeier, who, at 3.9, may now be called into action. The German is already owned by 6.2% of managers as a bench warming budget option but could now enter more squads should Duffy face a spell on the sidelines.

Gabbiadini delivers as Forster falters

Manolo Gabbiadini scored his first goals since Gameweek 2 with a brace against Newcastle United to provide a rare double-digit return.

The Italian first pegged back the visitors with a fine solo effort before converting a spot-kick after Shane Long was felled.

Dusan Tadic was on the pitch at the time of the award, indicating that Gabbiadini has now assumed penalty duties. Tadic had previously taken and scored a spot-kick ahead of the striker against West Ham in Gameweek 2.

Gabbiadini was recalled to the Saints starting line-up today having been reduced to cameo roles since his last start in Gameweek 4. He had suffered a loss of 190,000 owners over that spell and went into today’s game as part of just 95,000 squads.

The 12-points appear unlikely to spark a renaissance, although Gabbiadini’s confidence levels will be boosted ahead of West Brom’s visit in Gameweek 9. Another return against the Baggies could see some begin to reconsider the striker, although his previous inconsistency, coupled with the availability of Swansea City’s Tammy Abraham, will likely temper interest.

Fraser Forster‘s uncertain display helped ensure that Southampton had to settle for a point.

The keeper was slow to react to Isaac Hayden’s first-half strike, while he also lets Ayoze Perez’s shot rebound back to the striker for the eventual winner.

Forster is part of 9.0% of squads and went into Gameweek 8 having produced nine points via a penalty save at Stoke City last time out. That haul had earned him 56,000 new owners before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Newcastle’s Rob Elliot who picked up 70,000 managers. Both keepers produced just a single point to reward their recent investors.

Elsewhere for Newcastle, Christian Atsu recovered from the knock that kept him from international duty and duly delivered an assist for his 4.2% ownership. The Ghanian’s initial drive was blocked before rebounding to Hayden to convert the Magpies’ opener.

Like Atsu, Matt Ritchie also figured having recovered from the injury that kept him out of Scotland’s squad over the break. However, his role on set-pieces remains reduced by Jonjo Shelvey’s presence. Ritchie took 13 of 15 corners with Shelvey out of favour but shared them four apiece today.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think the point is with Sterling that he might miss some minutes here and there, but will still score a bucket load of points. Own both as well, very happy right now with the pair

Or - save 1.1 for a player with more points and a better fixture next week - bring Coutinho instead of Salah thereafter.

Coutinho's monopoly and ability on set pieces and from long range as well as baps potential makes him just as good an option and arguably better imo

Salah is an inside forward. 15+ goals, couple of assists

Coutinho is a roaming playmaker from LCM. Couple of long shots, handful of FKs, bunch of assists

Coutinho i think has something like 10 goals in his last 15 PL appearances and a record close to 1 in 2 since Klopp took over.. while Salah is operating further forward a lot of the time Coutinho can score goals and earn points in a lot more different ways and for me makes him my preference.. both quality options there is no clear winner here is my point

Coutinho is a decent option, nothing like last season when it was Couts-Firm-Mane front 3

Now deeper, goal threat relying on long shots and FK. Assists will flow obviously

Similar price, Salah is the clear winner imo. I know you have Couts nidge good luck

Er because he's started pretty much all the games he's been available for and has produced in.

Pick him, don't pick him but don't be a dumb arse and think Pep picks his team's based on your insecurities.

Sterling is red hot, he has no reason to be dropped.

What like he started the first 2 games of the season right? Pep has a lot of players to rotate you know. In fact, Pep doesn't pick players based on your team. You're trying so hard to justify a 1 week punt.

Why are you always so aggressive ? People simply have different opinions to you.

DeB, Silva, Fernandinho, Aguero and/or Jesus all probably ahead of Sterling, which means he is fighting for one of 2 places with Aguero/Jesus, Sane, Gun, B Silva, Yaya etc

City have Burnley Wolves and WBA sandwiched between Napoli twice in the CL and Pep is very likely to spread the minutes around than flog the same players

I think Salah should be good for 10 goals & 10 assists, should put him fairly close to 200 point mark, and he could (if he found his shooting boots) even go as far as 15 goals, going to stick with him for now

Just signed him... I couldn't like any other defender at this price range.

Here's my team for next GW:
        [1FT, 0.0ITB]

        DDG
        Otamendi Jones Naughton
        Eriksen Silva Salah Atsu
        Kane Kaku(C) Abraham

        Elliot Tarroll Monreal Long

Hiya lads, anything you'd change here? 1FT, 1.2 ITB

    Elliot
    Naughton - Alonso - Jones - Davies
    Sterling - Atsu - D.Silva
    Lukaku - Jesus - Kane

But would you replace Lukaku for Aguero (if he plays)? Or do you think Lukaku will explode against Huddersfield next week and bring in Aguero the following week?

i already have 3 city players, so would have to be for Jesus, i want the morate kane aguero front line at some point though, which i can have.
I dont think Lukaku will go crazy against Hud.

Evening everyone, how did you do? Got a paltry 47 so far (Carroll off the bench).

Any early suggestions for next week please?

    Foster
    Alonso | Jones | Kolasinac | Davies
    Coutinho | Ritchie | Groß
    Kane | Jesus | Lukaku

    Elliot | RLC | T.Carroll | Tuanzebe

    Early thoughts are something like:
    Sterling for Ritchie
    ??? For Kolasinac

In other words I'm screwed!! Unless I did (pending Champs league lineups):

            Mariappa for Kolasinac
            Sterling for Ritchie
            Aguero for Lukaku

-8. But that seems like madness

realistically got to come down on one of those forwards or do alonso, can't go to a 3 man defence where one might get rested, one might get injured and one is 2 bookings of a ban

Your team is identical to mine bar Mbemba forTuanzebe and I have Sane and Vardy to your Gross & Lukaku.

I would hold onto Ritchie for Palace at home, but I understand why you want some extra City coverage.

Thanks everyone for the replies, very helpful. Seems I should consider Alonso to enable Sterling.

What is this article re 3.9m defs? But yes having 2 cheapies in defense is just asking for trouble.

    A salah to sterling
B alonso and choupo to 4.5m def and sterling for a hit
C keep salah and alonso and save

    Elliot
    Kolasinac Naughton Lascelles
    Coutinho D.Silva Gross C-Moting Alexis
    Kane Laca

    Pereira C-Lewin Mbemba Hune

    Have 2FTs, 1.2ITB

Which one considering Morata is fit?

    A) Laca => Aguero
    B) Laca => Morata

What is City's current best 11 of all fit players including Aguero?

I'm thinking Sterling could be rotated every now and then. Sane, to me looks an assured starter on the left flank. Thoughts?

      Ederson
      Walker Stones Otamendi Mendy
      Fernandinho KDB
      Jesus Silva Sane
      Aguero

No point considering Kompany as he is always injured.

It isn't a case of their best 11 it's the 11 Pep sees fit to put out each week which will more than often be different particularly in attack

That said if they keep going the way they are then you could swallow a bench appearance one week if that player is delivering double figures the next

    3. GuyIncognito
