Scout Notes – Vardy Subdued In Stalemate

Friday’s early kick-off is a predictably sparse affair for Fantasy managers, with modest returns on offer as West Ham and Leicester City play out a 1-1 stalemate.

Vardy stifled once again

Jamie Vardy went into the London Stadium encounter as the top owned asset on show, part of 14% of squads. He had produced just a single return – a goal in Gameweek 10 against Everton – in his previous six outings.

Tonight’s assist for Marc Albrighton’s opener provided little compensation for his owners. The striker mustered just one shot on goal and has now totalled only five efforts from his last four appearances since the arrival of manager Claude Puel.

Those statistics will do little to slow further sales, with Vardy’s ownership dropping by 118,000+ over those previous four Gameweeks. More than 59,000 moved Vardy on ahead of tonight’s deadline.

Riyad Mahrez also disappointed. The Algerian had produced two goals and three assists from his previous five outings. While he sparkled in the early stages, he cut a disgruntled figure when withdrawn on 69 minutes by Puel.

It perhaps gives an indication of Demarai Gray‘s progress under Puel that he remained on the pitch while Mahrez was hooked. Gray was eventually replaced in stoppage time. The 5.3 option has played 90 minutes in three of his four matches under Puel, while Mahrez has been replaced early in three of four.

At the back, it’s now just one clean sheet in six for Leicester, with Spurs their next opponent in Gameweek 14 on Tuesday.

Lanzini the stand-out Hammer

Manuel Lanzini was perhaps the most notable Fantasy performer for the home side.

He created five chances on the night and, along with left-back Aaron Cresswell, monopolised many of West Ham’s set-pieces.

Lanzini provided the crossed corner for Cheikhou Kouyate’s equaliser, having previously supplied a string of free-kick deliveries.

The Argentine picked up two bonus points along with his assist to score eight on the night.

However, priced at 6.8, Fantasy interest in the playmaker is likely to remain muted unless the Hammers can be transformed as an attacking force.

Interestingly, David Moyes deployed 4.4 defender Arthur Masuaku on the left-flank in front of Cresswell. But for all his pace and industry, the Frenchman’s final ball lacked quality.

With Michail Antonio back in training, Moyes will surely shake up his attack to accommodate the powerful winger, and Masuaku is the most likely to make way. That change could even be in place for the Gameweek 14 trip to Everton.

Marko Arnautovic is an early doubt for that encounter. He suffered a knock to his knee and was finally withdrawn on 69 minutes. Moyes brought us this on the setback post-match…

“He complained before, if you noticed he got a kick – or an injury – just before half time, and I was annoyed he kept limping around. You need a foghorn here on the touchline to hear anybody, but i wanted him to keep going and he did. He seemed okay at half time but I think at the end it’s just caught up on him, hopefully it’s not too severe I think he should be okay.”

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

same here pre deadline thinking Sterling played full CL game so it was a good move short term and long term. A nailed on Pogba at 8M is much better value than a rotation risk sterling for the same price.

I guess i am the one who got nailed on this move

Considering he played the full cl game on Wednesday and there’s another midweek game combined with Pep rotation I thought it was a good move with Price lock

Does Pogba live close by to the Lowry Hotel?

This is always a possibility but not being at the hotel is a good indicator that he won’t play. No point worrying about it as there is nothing anyone can do now

He will live in the Cheshire area more than likely and not near the Lowry Hotel. It's not near the plush areas where the footballers tend to live.

Issues: Vardy, Jones, lack of Haz/Morata

    c) Lukaku Vardy Jones to Morata Calvert-Lewin Azpi -4

Anyone not worried about Chelsea and Liverpool players being rested?

They have screwed up their CL groups so can't rest players on matchday 6. Arsenal, City, Spurs and Utd however are fine so can probably put out their first team and give players a week off in between.

Worrying thing, had a feeling last night (post deadline) that Kane would do well. Just a feeling, but he last two times that has happened he has scored two and four goals. Starting to regret not captaining him now.

My team is so crap on paper (no Sane, no Hazard, no Morata, no Kane, no Aguero, no Lukaku), but it has done the business so far:

    De Gea
    Naughton - Azpi - Davies
    Salah - Eriksen - RLC - Silva - Richarlison
    Jesus(c) - Vardy

    Elliot - Stones - Dunk - McBurnie

Looking at doing Lukaku to Morata and BDavies to Alonso for-4 for the squad below after Sunday games. Good use of transfers or not?

(Vardy to probably Niasse will have to wait to fund third midfield upgrade to Pogba and possibly Sterling to Sane)

    Pope Elliot
    Daniels Otamendi Alonso Ward Fernández
    Salah Sterling Richarlison Choupo-Moting RLC
    Kane Morata Vardy

And this is why I'll never make it to the top 10 k in fpl. Transferred Niasse in early to catch the price rise, Niasse gets banned. And then brought Pogba in for Sterling for a hit since if sterling was benched I'd be fielding 10 guys. I also thought Pogba had a better chance of starting both games albeit subbed early. Now Pogba didn't even travel. Every time I make a transfer for some crazy messed up reason my player doesn't even show up. This happened with Aguero too last week. Now, if I bring in Kaku, I'm sure he's going to get benched. Like I said earlier in the season, chance plays a huge part in your team's success.

I usually wait till 2 hrs before the deadline, but Tomer hemed was my 3rd striker and was exactly 4.9. If I waited then I wouldn't have afforded Niasse without taking a hit. Also, this the first time someone is being banned for diving, but I do think it is the right course of action. Its so shameful seeing players dive.

Pogba move, I did what I felt was best. It was always scary looking at the city lineup when you have Aguero and sterling in your squad.

In making any decision in life wouldn't you gather as much info as you can before making it?

      Fpl no different.

If your strategy involves knee jerk buying an Everton striker then you might want to reconsider.

Early transfers in weeks with UCL games in risky. Not having a playing bench is risky.

      Not all luck.

Okay, now what's up with the 'Pogba not playing' news. It'll be disgusting if Mou has decided to leave him out of the squad/rest him or whatever.

5 matches in two weeks is a bit much to expect coming back from injury- makes sense he's rested for the 'easier' home match

Dann? has good fixtures, goal threat. Lack of CS is a worry but Palace have played well last 4 matches, can see them keeping clean sheets soon. Kiko Femenia has great fixtures after the next 2 tough ones. Duffy is viable but you'd need to rotate him as he has alternating good/bad fixtures.

I usually wait till the end 2 hrs before the deadline, but Tomer hemed was my 3rd striker and was exactly 4.9.

    Moreno - alonso - Otamendi
Salah - ricarlison- RLC - Silva
    Vardy - Kane - Jesus

    Mee, Simpson, carrol
