Dugout Discussion – Man United vs Stoke City

Gameweek 23 draws to a close at Old Trafford as Manchester United entertain struggling Stoke City.

Up against a defence that’s conceded more goals on the road than any side, the hosts boast three of the top 11 captains in Fantasy Premier League.

Romelu Lukaku (12.1%) remains the favoured attacker among Jose Mourinho’s contingent despite a run of two goals in the last nine Gameweeks.

Yet as evidenced by his goal and assist off the bench against Derby in the FA Cup, an enforced rest due to a head injury seems to have boosted the Belgian’s prospects.

Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba are also highly fancied, with the former drafted in by a massive 567,000+ FPL managers in time to face the Potters.

Certainly, Lingard is the form player on show tonight, with seven goals and a pair of assists in the last nine Gameweeks. He has, however, recorded points in just one of his last four Premier League matches at home.

Meanwhile, Pogba’s 12-point haul away to Everton last time out – his first double-digit return since Gameweek 12 – hints at a return to form. However, tonight’s teamsheet indicates that the Frenchman will be deployed in a deep-lying role alongside Nemanja Matic, with Ander Herrera dropping to the bench.

Having conceded just five goals at Old Trafford, a ninth home clean sheet looks to be on the cards for David De Gea’s 42% owners tonight.

Up against an attack that have scored just three times in their last five road trips, interest in Phil Jones is on the rise – he was the top transfer target in defence for Gameweek 23, earning over 191,000 new owners.

Mourinho also welcomes back the fit-again Antonio Valencia, who makes his first appearance since Gameweek 18 after recovering from a hamstring problem.

Despite missing the last four matches, he remains the fourth top-scoring defender in FPL thanks to two goals and 11 clean sheets in 18 outings.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Do I upgrade my defence this coming GW or do I save FT and wait for more info regarding january moves and GW28 ? 1 FT, 3,2 ITB.

    Adrian / Speroni
    Alonso Ota Kenny (Ogbonna, Mee)
    Salah Sterling Son Lingard Arnie
    Kane Firmino (Quaner)

I'd hang fire. Kenny and Ogbonna both have reasonable fixtures.

No not really but Everton should be capable of holding WBA to a clean sheet.

If you're looking for differentials then go for A with Ibe.

If you want to play safe then B

He has 2.8m in the bank though ... can do better than Ibe (stats or not). If Ramsey is back fit he would be choice as could well play further forward.

Agreed. But I suggested Ibe since it keeps his team formation as is. And leaves money for other areas too

well with Ibe it would be 352 or 442 but i would like some bigher upgrade im thinking Ox for triple Liverpul for Swanse...or Ramsey but dont know how his form going to be...

Was considering selling Son ahead of gw25, but after watching the United and Arsenal defenses this week--both of which visit Wembley (gws 25 and 27, respectively)--I'm not so sure getting rid is the best idea.
Would Kane be enough for this gameweek?
Anyone else already thinking that far ahead?

      1. LonesomePundit
        • 6 Years
        6 years, 4 months ago

Based on recent form I think Son is a great play against just about anyone at the minute. It really depends who you are considering bringing in.

Arnie would be the only real consideration, I think. Maybe Pogba.

The hesitation (and that term is even a little strong) with Son is his form is against teams outside the top 6 and at home. His only top 6 return was home vs. Pool.
Arnie's form seems to be more agnostic with regards to home and away, and he has better fixtures, on paper.

I must applaud Manchester City for taking this approach!

'Manchester City have decided not to pursue their interest in signing Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

The club have decided the cost of pursuing the 29-year-old would be prohibitively expensive.

Manager Pep Guardiola, the club's owner Khaldoon al Mubarak and other senior officials are all in agreement.

It is understood the wages being demanded by Sanchez would have put him ahead of all City's star men, something the club decided they would not do.'

players i want in salah jones lingard. salah will probably come in this week ive missed out on his price rise so may as well wait for press conferences before bringing him in? the other transfer will be saved and i can use 2FT gw25 to bring jones and lingard in. Thoughts on this plan?

Man, what a huge error taking out Arnie for Lingard last week......worst mistake of the season so far.

      Got to be stated, something's wrong with english players........walcott/ wilshere/ barkley/ rodwell/ richards/ welbeck/ henderson/ McEachran and so on

Yeah fair enough everyone gets hyped and it dies down.... but none of them come back to top form.... only exception is Kane, but something is evidently wrong in the development here because the talent is there

        Hey! Nothing wrong with Wilshere!

Risky saying that. He could have injured himself this evening

Walker Trippier Jones Maguire Delph Young Shaw Rose
          Townsend Lallana Wilshire Zaha Sterling
          Kane Vardy

I ran out of steam, but I think you're talking about the team from 8 years ago.

Old age question. Answer is hard to pin down. They are not being coached right imo at junior level. The flair is taken out of them. Look at what Pep has done with Sterling by allowing him to go for it more. That and many of the key positions in Prem teams are not played by English players....

The club i support is ajax and we all know theyre academy...... what i see as the main difference is players arent getting much chance at the top level, very cut throat in the prem.

The problem is not with the players, it's with the fans desperately clinging to glimmers of hope that each of those English youngsters will become world class.

England get their fair amount of young talent, recently in the likes of Rashford, Kane, Alli, Sessegnon, Dier or Sancho; I'm guessing most of them will remain (Kane, Alli) or develop into top players.

But can't expect every Jordan Henderson or Danny Welbeck to do so.

also has to be said, none of the players challenge themselves by leaving england..... i think thats when the national team suffers

Other Def Ota Gomez Masuaku Kenny (shipping for Alonso)
