Dugout Discussion – Man United vs Stoke City

Gameweek 23 draws to a close at Old Trafford as Manchester United entertain struggling Stoke City.

Up against a defence that’s conceded more goals on the road than any side, the hosts boast three of the top 11 captains in Fantasy Premier League.

Romelu Lukaku (12.1%) remains the favoured attacker among Jose Mourinho’s contingent despite a run of two goals in the last nine Gameweeks.

Yet as evidenced by his goal and assist off the bench against Derby in the FA Cup, an enforced rest due to a head injury seems to have boosted the Belgian’s prospects.

Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba are also highly fancied, with the former drafted in by a massive 567,000+ FPL managers in time to face the Potters.

Certainly, Lingard is the form player on show tonight, with seven goals and a pair of assists in the last nine Gameweeks. He has, however, recorded points in just one of his last four Premier League matches at home.

Meanwhile, Pogba’s 12-point haul away to Everton last time out – his first double-digit return since Gameweek 12 – hints at a return to form. However, tonight’s teamsheet indicates that the Frenchman will be deployed in a deep-lying role alongside Nemanja Matic, with Ander Herrera dropping to the bench.

Having conceded just five goals at Old Trafford, a ninth home clean sheet looks to be on the cards for David De Gea’s 42% owners tonight.

Up against an attack that have scored just three times in their last five road trips, interest in Phil Jones is on the rise – he was the top transfer target in defence for Gameweek 23, earning over 191,000 new owners.

Mourinho also welcomes back the fit-again Antonio Valencia, who makes his first appearance since Gameweek 18 after recovering from a hamstring problem.

Despite missing the last four matches, he remains the fourth top-scoring defender in FPL thanks to two goals and 11 clean sheets in 18 outings.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I´m thinking about doing Kenny and RLC ----> Jones and Ibe

    A) Both for -4 this week
    B) Just Kenny ----> Jones
    C) Just RLC ----> Ibe
    D) Save and do both for free next week

    A, B, C or D??

I will save this week and get 2 FTs for next one. Maybe do both and bench Ibe or something like that. But I don´t need Ibe, I can play 4 defenders this week. Thanks mate!

Would you go ahead with these moves?
Lingard not looking so appealing suddenly but I really want Alonso either way!

    Eriksen-> Lingard + Kenny -> Alonso. (Leaves 0.2m)

    Lloris.
    Christensen, Kenny, Otamendi.
    Sterling, Salah, Richarlison, Arnautovic, Eriksen.
    Kane, Firmino.
    Speroni, Ogbonna, Mee, Calvert- Lewin,
    2ft, 0.3m.

        Son and Pogba to

I've decided alli to salah will most likely be move after pressers. Would of been my move before before price changes today but was too late and missed out so might as well wait for pressers. The other spurs mid son will leave as well tempted by pogba or lingard if united don't blank gw28

Did anyone look good from Stoke attack like Choupo or Shaqiri? They have some tasty fixtures coming up and can prove to be great differentials under new manager?

    1. The HurriKane
      • 10 Years
      6 years, 3 months ago

Shaqiri has quality and the truth is he had a decent run when Stoke had some good fixtures. From GW10 to GW15 he only blanked against Pool. He had 5-13-5-9-2-8 with 3 goals and 3 assists in 5 games.

If Stoke gets better with Lambert, he can be a good option and differential

Yes but differentials only truly work when you can predict returns before it becomes common. Like I got in Alonso in GW14 when Chelsea had a good run of fixtures rather than waiting to see how he was as an option. Got Hazard's hauls against Bou, Wba & New which boosted up my rank at that time. So I see this situation the same way as Shaqiri could do much better than the likes of Lingard, Richarlison, etc but can definitely wait a week to see glimpses of form and how Stoke do

True. That´s what I´m saying, wait 1 week and see. But if your gut says Yes, so go for it and risk it!

What to do with this lot? Thinking WC to shore up my defense? Thoughts? 0 FT. 0.4 ITB.

    Foster - Elliot

    Alonso - Jones - Otamendi - Hunemeier - Kabasele

    Son - Salah - Lingard - Sterling - Carroll

    Kane - Firmino - DCL

Best to get a 5.1 at the expense of having a 3.9 defender? Would have thought maybe 2x4.5m defenders a better route.

Because Mendy is still out and if Delph is out too for some time, I think he will be nailed. Wouldn´t make sense adapting someone more with Danilo fit.

Sort of stuck atm with Tottenham's game v Southsmpton before 3 difficilt games as well as having 0 in the bank.

Should I be looking at dealing with DCL (cash an issue so would probsbly need to use the 2 FT), thinning out Tottenham midfield (after next GW), getting in Alonso?

Or is there another way to use to FT to avoid wasting it?

Alli to lingard and bring in Alonso. That way you dcl can be bench fodder until a strong 3rd forward option comes up

It is about time there are hard and fast rules regarding price rises/drops. The Salah scenario seems to me to be a joke. The whims of the powers that be take away the skill level of the player. Luckily, most players had a big investment in him so they did not sell but the 500k that did, hits hard on their chances to the end of the season.
It is an old story but should be put to bed NOW!!
And this is from someone who held onto him.

    1. The HurriKane
      • 10 Years

You can see from other side. People that keep him probably had to play a cheap mid and sacrifice to keep him. People who sold him went for the greedy way and now pay the consequences and it´s all about being smart and some luck this game

I understand you but the drop/increase in prices should not be a whim. All games and sports have rules and there is good reason for it.

That´s true too. But the rules are the same for everybody and we know the risks. It´s all about taking the risk and see what happens. But I understand your point too, of course.

Everyone plays by the same rules. Price change rules are hidden for a reason so the game isn't a stock market.

You are high on my respect list TORRESMAGIC. On this occasion though I beg to differ. One should be able to weigh up consequences. This situation is so out of kilter. The situation would have been far worse if players did not have such value in the player. Who makes these decisions?

Flags, the DGW and his ownership are the reasons he didn't drop. Once the flag got removed and 200K bought, what did you expect to happen?

A common sense approach. Remember it is my view and I am not an absolute. The flag story does not rub as there was a time when the FPL stats and FF fix had him at -400%.

Thanks for the read. I like the site and agree with them entirely. I am certainly not a rude one. More a tendancy to be rude to organizers. I will be interested in the "rule change" outcome. The salah story will never make sense to me.

I agree. I kept Salah as well, so I'm not suffering here (same as you). But to have his ownership gone down from 60 to 50% and no price drop, then goes back up to 52% and price goes up 0.1 is just silly.

Another analogy is playing poker and half way through the hand the dealer says a run is now higher than a flush. There are sites that assist in the area that assist and they must be scratching their heads. What is wrong by not have definitive rules?

    4. Pranav Santhosh
      • 7 Years
      6 years, 3 months ago

I agree with you that if salah did change in price it should of been going down instead of going up looking at the amount of transfers in and out. But the people that got rid of him knew the risks involved of losing a lot of value and had to decide whether the points gained would make up for it. Me personally I made the move and I defintely regret it because I lost 0.7 in value and although I did gain more points in the end salah is someone you have to bring back in so I just have to take the 0.7 loss on the chin.
