The Big Numbers – Gameweek 27

We turn to the Opta numbers next and roll out our usual post-Gameweek members’ article looking at some of the standout players across the previous round of fixtures.

Sergio Aguero, Jamie Vardy and Eden Hazard’s run of goals arrive under analysis, while we also cast an eye over Spurs and Everton’s recent displays in attack.

Meanwhile, cut-price midfielders from Brighton and Watford are finding form as both sides prepare for a run of four home matches in the next six Gameweeks.

Is Mahrez a good option? Form before transfer stuff was superb and fixtures are great. Will he retain his form or not?

    Foster
    Hegazi - Jones - Mee
    Salah - Sterling - Lingard - Shaqiri
    Kane - Agüero - Firmino

    Bench: Elliot, Otamendi, Carroll, Ogbonna.

    2FT, 0.1M ITB.

Want to get in VVD for Otamendi, but that only leaves me 0.7M ITB to use on replacement for Lingard (6.9M).

Any suggestions on what to do here? Arna is the perfect solution money wise (until price changes), but not too sure about his fixtures as well as a blank in 31.

Definitely wait. Lots can happen and it is late enough in the season that team value isn't as important as not making a bad trade that forces a hit.

I think it depends how you want to shape your team in the coming weeks, especially if you're gonna wildcard in GW32-33. Pencil in some of the transfers you want to make. The other day I made a decent WC team for GW32 with just 0.1m to spare, but if I can't afford it at the time I could just downgrade Azpi.

If there are no specific moves you're thinking of making over the next few weeks that require every last bit of cash I think it's better to just wait and be sure of the moves you're making.

        Gonna wait guys

Like you all say, I might have bigger problems this time next week.

        Pope - heaton back
Jones & Otamendi - rotation risk
        lingard - mr blank
Adrian & Ogbonna - waste of ham

        Thanks for the replies

    What to do?

    Adrian
    Valencia Mee Daniels
    Salah Sterling Shaqiri Pogba
    Kane Wilson Aguero

    (Elliot, Mili, Jones, Mbemba)

    1.0m itb

Contemplating Pogba, Shaqiri & Valencia 》 Mahrez, Son & Robertson for a -8.

    Thoughts?

    1. TallestJohn
      • 7 Years

No reason to get rid of Shaqiri with his form, fixtures, value and GW31 fixtures. Personally I'd still be hesitant on going back in for Mahrez.

If you want Son I'd just do:
      Pogba → Son
      Valencia → VVD

Although would that enable you to get Eriksen?

"High ceiling" - Essentially maximum points possible (within "reason")

"High floor" - Something between minimum points possible (within "reason") and expected points (based on average points in the past).

Pfft. Have I got the definitions wrong in your view? I find these terms misleading and basically useless. Anyone else?

Not necessarily true given that we can transfer players and catch purple patches, or rough patches on the flip side.

        1. Deulofail
          • 8 Years
          6 years, 2 months ago

Yeah. The question is simply, who is likely to score the most points?

(Based on whatever factors you choose - which might include the season's average)

          1. Limited & Mediocre Mana…
            • 8 Years

Exactly. "Where do my points come from?" Is about the only question I ask, and everything else comes from that.

        2. Brosstan
          • 9 Years
          6 years, 2 months ago

Yea agree but for a given gameweek your captaincy choice is all down to "which of my players will get the highest score on average?". Doing this every single week will get a higher score than thinking "who has the highest floor" or "who has the highest ceiling".

I've voiced this before with a little criticism, and it seems I've bookmarked it (what magic!).

I think we are susceptible to thinking too narrowly when choosing captains, for example, when in retrospect, it's clear to see that the player with the highest average points would have made a better captain (if you captained him every week), than a player with a lower average.

But of course we can change captaincy each week, and the pursuit of purple patches leads us to chase high ceilings, which often come with low floors. People choose players with highly variable scores because they want a GW with a big score even if it means they're more likely to get a lower score too. Which means if the GW was simulated 100 times, their captaincy choice would get them fewer points on average (and that's how (hypothetical) averages become important in the narrow view, not just in retrospect).

All right then. Perhaps you could remain open to another strategy until after the FA cup games.

In general, though, that team look immense. I've seen lots of interest in Vertonghen, but I'm not sure why myself. I feel like he's picked because he is expensive, so feels like a good value replacement for the Chelsea premiums.

Thought of ditching Alonso too but have a feeling he'll punish his sellers.
As for Walcott, I'd be more convinced if he had at least some participation in their 3 goals vs Palace, but think I prefer Ramsey over him. Lingard -> Ramsey looks better.

Yeah hear what you're saying re. Walcott, it's that GW 31 fixture that gives him extra appeal for me.

      My order to get rid:

      Lingard's run is over.
Aguero is about to get rested more when jesus comes back so I reckon he'll be playing 60 ish mins more often.
otamendi - not returning clean sheets or goals too high price/returns.
hazard- a good differential probably keep
Alonso - injury but can return points at both ends in any game.

I am 0.4 short. If I do Milo out instead of Carroll then it's fine. I was thinking Trippier ahead of Vvd ?

Rodriguez out could be a priority if he's banned. Easy to move to Ayew or Wilson, the latter should be good if he's got a game in GW31.

Otamendi to a Pool or Spurs defender, perhaps Carroll to Shaqiri if you can afford. Would say Ogbonna out but you've already got Bauer so could probably make up more points elsewhere.

Yeah your right mate. Jrod gotta go. Niasse will replace him. I would take out either Bauer/Ogbonna for Trippier and then bank the transfer for Otamendi to anyone 6.2 or below.

See the state of Chelsea’s defence when Christensen is missing, I think he’s first choice but it’s these small injuries he picks up which is a concern

    Foster
    Hegazi - Jones - Mee
    Salah - Sterling - Lingard - Shaqiri
    Kane - Agüero - Firmino

    Bench: Elliot, Otamendi, Carroll, Ogbonna.

    2FT, 0.1M ITB.

Want to get in VVD for Otamendi, but that only leaves me 0.7M ITB to use on replacement for Lingard (6.9M).

Any suggestions on what to do here? Arna is the perfect solution money wise (until Lingard falls..), but not too sure about his fixtures as well as a blank in 31.

Even with Liverpool and Swansea (who have been very good lately) away, and Burnley (who are tight at the back) in the next three and then likely blank? (or Man Utd away..)

But you aren’t going to captain him against Man U or Man City who they play next? He’s carrying a fairly poor Chelsea team at the moment. Won’t play West Brom every week.

Agree, but next fixtures are away against Man U and Man City then (probable) blank 31 then Spurs. I’m trying to get Kane in and losing Hazard seems the best way.

There's no going up to Alonso, he's the best fpl defender out there, it's better if you saved and get rid if it involves a midfield upgrade to balance it out.
