Captain Poll – Gameweek 30

While tonight’s Selhurst Park encounter concludes Gameweek 29, we are already looking ahead to the next set of fixtures with the launch of our latest Captain Poll.

Spurs frontman Harry Kane (12.9) has had to settle for second place to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (10.5) in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) armband race in each of the last three Gameweeks.

But that may well change this time around. While Spurs travel to face a Bournemouth defence that has conceded more shots (99) than any side in the last six Gameweeks, Salah will face a testing trip to Old Trafford.

Kane’s form certainly warrants top billing. Over his last seven league run outs, he has found the net six times and racked up more shots (38), efforts in the box (29), attempts on target (20) and big chances (12) than any player.

His supporting cast of midfielders, Christian Eriksen (9.4), Dele Alli (8.9) and Son Heung-min (8.0) may also garner interest, the latter, in particular, following his weekend brace at home to Huddersfield. Eriksen’s three assists and goal over his last six away days also impresses.

Even though Liverpool take on the league’s meanest home defence, Salah’s impressive away record should ensure that he still mounts a serious challenge to Kane at the summit of our poll.

In front of their own fans, Jose Mourinho’s charges have conceded a league-low six goals and earned a record ten clean sheets. Meanwhile, on the road, the Egyptian has scored 11 and fired 20 shots on target, with only Kane (13 and 23) bettering those tallies.

Salah’s team-mate Roberto Firmino (9.4)’s seven goals and four assists away from Anfield make him another Reds asset set to attract attention, as do Sadio Mane’s (9.4) five goals in his last three run outs in all competitions.

Voters will be keeping a close eye on events at Selhurst Park tonight when Manchester United take on Crystal Palace before considering handing the armband to their assets.

Romelu Lukaku (11.2) will be among those most keenly watched after his recent return to form, with two goals and an assist in his last three league matches.

Interest in Arsenal assets may be muted this week as they head into a home match with Watford in awful form. Nevertheless, the Gunners boast strong home scoring form – only Man City (51 to 36) have found the net more often in front of their own fans.

Mesut Ozil (9.3)’s five assists and three successful strikes at the Emirates makes him an intriguing armband candidate. Patrick-Emerick Aubameyang (10.4) is another, after scoring his second goal in four Gameweeks against Brighton yesterday. His ineligibility for Arsenal’s Europa League campaign also means he will be free of rest and rotation worries.

Another London side in the doldrums is Chelsea, who have lost to Bournemouth and Watford over their last five league matches and failed to register a single on target shot in their away loss to Manchester City yesterday.

However, a home tie against Crystal Palace could prove far more profitable for Antonio Conte’s troops. Over their last four road trips, the Eagles have failed to keep a clean sheet and have shipped nine goals, with only West Ham and Everton conceding more often away from home over that timeframe.

After Chelsea’s poor attacking display yesterday, it seems likely that striker Alvaro Morata (10.4) will earn a recall. The Spaniard is currently his side’s top scorer at home in the league, with five goals.

Eden Hazard (10.6) is another strong differential captaincy candidate among the Blues assets. He was again frustrated by a false nine role at the Etihad Stadium but should be played up with either Morata or Giroud against Roy Hodgson’s side. The Belgian has three goals and an assist over his last four matches.

Manchester City’s sensational title charge should ensure that their players are also factors in the latest poll, even though they visit a Stoke backline that has shown impressive resilience of late. Over the last six Gameweeks, the Potters have earned three clean sheets and conceded just four times, the third-best record over that period.

With rotation anticipated for the midweek Champions League clash against FC Basel, though, City’s big-hitters could all profit at the bet365.

Should Gabriel Jesus start against the Swiss outfit, Sergio Aguero’s (11.9) looks a likely name on the teamsheet next Monday – he has eight goals in his last six starts.

David Silva (7.9) is another to impress recently, with a goal and assist across his last two starts, as has Leroy Sane (8.5), who delivered a 13-point return in his last road trip, against Arsenal in Gameweek 28.

The German is currently this week’s most popular transfer target, attracting 39,000 new FPL managers.

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva (7.4)’s two goals and assist over the last four Gameweeks could even see some votes go his way. However, should Raheem Sterling (8.7) return from injury, the Portuguese could be one City player who may well succumb to rotation.

Riyad Mahrez (8.7)’s last-minute equaliser against Bournemouth on Saturday garners momentum for Leicester City’s trip to basement-dwellers West Brom. That free kick was the fourth time he had found the net in his last seven league starts; meanwhile, the Baggies have shipped a record 13 goals over the last six Gameweeks.

Another who may attract votes is West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic (7.0), who takes on a Burnley side that last kept a clean sheet in Gameweek 21. The Austrian has excelled for the Hammers with David Moyes at the helm, scoring seven times and assisting a further four goals over his last 11 run outs.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 30 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Any thoughts on the best transfer to make?

    DDG
    Kenny / Alonso / Mee / Duffy / Ogbonna
    Chamberlain / Salah / Walcott / Mkhi / Sterling
    Firmino / Kane / Wilson

    2FT 0.5 itb

    A. Ogbonna + Sterling + Chamberlain --> 6.2 defender + Shaqiri + Manè ?

    B. Sterling + Mkhi --> D.Silva + Mahrez

    C. Elliot + Sterling --> Hennysey + Sane/D.Silva?

    D. Anything else?

    Gents!

Have there been any late points amendments made in the history of FPL whilst the GW was still ongoing? Let's say a player was or wasn't awarded points as he should on Saturday and it was clearly a mistake, have they been awarded retrospectively on Sunday or Monday? Has this ever happened before? Thanks

He heads the ball on target, goalie parries the shot in front of him- A. King taps the ball in the net. It couldn't be any clearer. Would like to know opinions on this one by some of you. If that guy would be Salah or Kane- that assist would be awarded straight away.

The ball was parried to the keeper's left and then it hit Chicarito, which diverted the ball to the keeper's right. Couldn't be clearer. I would take off that tinfoil hat, dude 😉

Shot on target, tapped in for a goal. Clear assist unless the rules changed yesterday.

It wasn't a shot on target that Chica blocked, it was a parry from the keeper. If Chica were a Swansea player, he would get the assist, not A. Ayew.

Goal from about 1:56. Looks to me like Deulofail's description is more accurate. I'd say no assist under the current rules as Adrian pushes it away from goal, Hernandez heads it back in - King taps it in.

      Yes there has

Konchesky was given an assist in 09/10 as a defender for Fulham . It was given on Saturday and taken away on Monday. I know as I had him captain. He was scoring at that time and I was in my second year so a casual move. I nearly punched the screen

Hmm, could be nice. It depends if you want to take a risk I guess

I feel like it's too soon for him (and Everton generally as a non-owner) to be buying in. Maybe for 31 as a 1 week punt?

For the last couple weeks been convinced would use Fh in GW31 (and as such not bringing any extra 31 players in) - however after reading more and more comments today on this, am starting to rethink about doing it in GW35...

I can manage 7 taking no hits (although one is Surman so that's sketchy).. So either 6/7 is this enough do you reckon? Would field something like:

    Lossl
    VVD
    Shaq - Salah (c) - Surman
    Firmino - Niasse/DCL

Surely not worth taking any hits etc? Or with that above, is FH in fact that wiser thing to do..

    Thanks!

    1. Pep says
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 2 months ago

FH will inevitably pay off for some who bring in off the radar players. I feel the average of the FH outside of the 4/5 players everyone is going to have will not be very high. As Jonty said in the hot topic, playing it in 35 just makes the navigation of the WC and bench boost for the dgw seem easier and more profitable and there should be a far larger pool of players to choose who 35 with a good chance of returns. 31 is very limited regarding promising prospects..

        *other players

I think that's decent. You have the key men covered (that others will have) and you will, crucially, have the same captain as everyone else. The ubiquitous Salah captaincy will dampen the efficacy of the chip imo.

This means that you'll be fine with 7+ players probably with those - additionally, do 2FT or a -4 for 2 TFs before next week and you're fine with 8-9.

Those free hitting will likely cover those main guys you already have (btw if you are doing it get why you're FHing if you've chosen/ended up not playing the blanks and have just a few BGWers) and will be relying on peripheral players like 4.5 defenders or cheapo mids to make points on you. I feel that it's likely that people will make 5-10 points tops on non-FHers unless a Pritchard or Janmaat character goes nuts.

    My actual team is:

    Popo - Foster
    Hegazi - Davies - Smalling - Robertson - Ward
    Salah - Shaqiri - Gross - Deulofeu - Milivojevic
    Lukaku - Kane - Firmino

    FT: 1
    ITB: 2.0

    my idea is:

    1) GM 30: Smalling, Deulofeu --> Schindler, Doucourè - 4
    2) GM 31: Lukaku or Kane --> forward?
    3) GM 32: return lukaku or kane
    4) GM 33: WC.

    my doubts are:
    1) instead deulofeu who i can keep??
    2) for GW 31 who the best choice in attack?

For GW 31 i'll can play:

    Foster
    Hegazi - Robertson - Schindler
    Salah - Shaqiri - Doucourè - Milivojevic
    Firmino - XXX

    Any suggestion is very appreciated.

The Gameweek 31 Away teams: Everton, Palace, West Brom and Watford have won a combined 8 games away from home this season...

This data is slightly skewed by Watford's 4 wins this surely makes backing those at home in 31 the correct plan?

We are all on the Liverpool bandwagon but Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Stoke must be targeting these games for wins to secure survival.
Perhaps this makes assets from those teams such as Schindler, King and Shaqiri the key players of this potentially drab affair?

Keep in mind that winning/losing games doesn’t always equate to points.
E.g. a team can lose 4-3 but they scored 3 goals or draw 0-0 and the defenders get points.
I’d be inclined to get defenders playing at home and hope the rest score decently

Very true and we all love a good 4-3 of course!
These teams with poor away form also seem to score less goals so I'd definitely be looking at those home defenders!

yep thats the plan for me anyway... Iv let my mini league rival catch up to within 60 points of me! 🙁 seems ok but I was 120 points clear!

this is mainly because iv had one eye on this blank week.... hope I can claw back some of these lost points in 31

Pick 2 out of 3 for this week:

was gonna take a hit to get him for the Stoke game...

If you have him, keep for stoke then ship out for the blanks

    Madness or genius? 1FT. 0.4ITB.

    KDB + Walcott + C Wilson > Son + Shaqiri + Firmino

    Would give me...

    Foster - Schmeichel

    Bavies - Alonso - VVD - Chilwell - Mbemba

    Son - Shaqiri - Mahrez - Salah - McArthur

    Kane - Firmino - J Ayew

Wouldn't get Son in at all, suspect he'll start against Juve midweek and not on the weekend again. Huge upside when playing but him, Lamela and Lucas are effectively fighting for one spot. Not confident he starts next week again.

Guess Conte will be sacked once Chelsea lose to Barca. He got blown by Hazard for his tactics yesterday(Pun intended) and at a club like Chelsea managers always have had the least weightage.

£26m apparently to sack him though. Might as well hold and hope he picks the Italy job in summer

Currently have 8 (+1 sub GK), with 2 FTs before GW31.. Who else would you add to this lot?

    Pickford (Begovic)
    VVD - Daniels
    Salah - Walcott - Siggy
    Firmino - Quaner

Not playing - Kane, Ramsey, Son, Bellerin, Ogbonna, Mee

      Triple Everton doesn't seem wise.

      Also, Quaner probably won't play.

I'd want a Bournemouth attacker up against that horrible West Brom team. I'm stuck with Wilson but would go for King or Stanislas in your position.

A Stoke defender in for Ogbonna looks good too.

probably yes although if sterling is fit he could haul v stoke... can you just do the schindler move?

Is a move like Dunk to Schindler worth it for the long run considering Dunk will likely be bench fodder and has a Double gameweek?
Current defence is VVD Christensen Mee and Morgan so is it worth swapping a 5th defender with decent fixtures in for one who has an extra game...
    Tough one.

Anyone else considering binning Kane for 31 in view of his BGW 31 and chelsea away GW32?

Thinking to get in Josh King, Siggy/Stanislas and Coleman for Kenny, Mahrez, Kane (-4) next week

I haven't checked stats, but I seem to remember Kane has quite a good record v Chelsea

can't see Spurs hauling away at Chelsea personally and I'm a Spurs fan - but who knows - down to below 500k OR trying out some different moves - could not get any worse I feel

maybe, but I do think we have to be a bit more clinical with our players with moves such as that .

forget about value but this week .... but will any one sell Salah away to Man U for ...
      Hazard home to Palace
      City mid away to Stoke
      Spurs mid away to Bournemouth
      Mahrez away to WBA
