Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Chelsea

The bumper extended Gameweek begins at St Mary’s Stadium with Southampton seeking vital points against dethroned champions Chelsea.

In Fantasy terms, there is plenty of interest in this match.

Chelsea go into the encounter suffering form indifferent form but well backed by Double Gameweek investors with Marcos Alonso and Willian the key assets.

Alonso is part of more than 1.1 million squads though his ownership increased by a modest 7000+ this having last produced more than two points back in Gameweek 24.

Meanwhile, Willian was snapped up by 107,000+ new owners ahead of today’s deadline and is part of just over a million line-ups.

As for Southampton, their teamsheet reveals that Mark Hughes has retained the 3-4-2-1 trialed at Arsenal last weekend, as Jan Bednarek is handed his first Premier League start.

That should see Saints full-backs pushed up which is good news for investors in Cedric Soares, but not so good news for Charlie Austin’s owners.

Returning from injury to score having been introduced from the bench at the Emirates Stadium, Austin’s match fitness may just remain a concern and so he will be charged with making another impact via a cameo role today.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It surely isn't his assist. Right before Giroud's goal, the ball was touched by a Saints player.

Never deserved to get dropped by Arsenal and never deserved to play second fiddle to Lolarata...

Giroud is a quality striker and always has been.

Never was a donkey. What he was was a relatively poor finisher who actually played quite deep very often as a failse 9 providing bullets for the mids running beyond.

20 goals a season whilst being a front man as the likes of Sanchez score for fun is just fine....not a donkey at all...

Giroud is decent and honest. Disgusted Wenger sold him. Always finishes the season well.

Yep. Knew his job and did it well. The problem was a large section of the Arsenal fans wanted a clinical selfish striker....He was never that and just did what he did...and did it well.

Great in the air, peach of a left foot. Great off the bench in big games. Should be good value in FPL next season under a new manager.
