Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Arsenal Fluff Audition

Newcastle underline their fine home form, while also showing up Arsenal’s wretched away record, in a 2-1 win that highlights the risks of opting for Gunners assets over Gameweek 35’s reduced set of fixtures.

Rafa Benitez’s side made it four straight wins to all but secure their Premier League place for next season, with goals coming from the in-form Ayoze Perez and Matt Ritchie.

It was also their fourth consecutive victory on home soil; a run under early threat when Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s assist.

The latter had been sold by 217,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers ahead of Gameweek 34 due to Arsenal’s single fixture, but the transfer tide is already turning in preparation for next weekend’s schedule.

Some 12,000+ managers have moved for the Gabon international as the Gunners have what had looked to be a plum home match-up against West Ham, making him the sixth most popular purchase of next weekend.

Aubameyang certainly has the form – he has now returned points in five successive Gameweeks and has six goals and two assists in eight matches since arriving at the Emirates.

But coach Arsene Wenger chose to station him on the left flank at St James’ Park, handing Lacazette another chance to up his match sharpness ahead of the Europa League semi-final as Aubameyang is ineligible to play in the competition.

He still looks sure to start domestically, but if Lacazette continues to get the nod as the Gunners’ central striker, Aubameyang’s appeal will lose some of its shine ahead of both Gameweek 35 and his side’s Double Gameweek 37, which involves a visit from Burnley and a trip to Leicester City.

At least those with the Free Hit chip to employ next week can bring in Arsenal assets without having to fret over their wretched form on the road, with Wenger’s team playing three of their final four fixtures away from home.

They’ve now lost five straight league away matches and haven’t kept a clean sheet on their travels since Gameweek 17.

Lacazette played the full 90 minutes at St James’ Park and has now scored in two of three Gameweek appearances since returning from injury.

He could potentially retain his starting berth for Gameweek 35 as the match is four days before the first leg of the Europa League semi-final with Atletico Madrid.

But Wenger has consistently rested his big hitters prior to European action, and Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny and Hector Bellerin didn’t even make the squad for today’s match.

Nacho Monreal did feature on Tyneside, but he and his fellow key assets will likely have their minutes carefully managed, if they feature at all, against West Ham next weekend, leaving us with few concrete options to exploit Arsenal’s appearance in the six-fixture Gameweek 35.

Geordies nearly sure now

The same cannot be said for Newcastle, who are as good as safe in 10th place and could provide some decent differentials for a run-in, like Arsenal, that also involves a fixture next week and a Double Gameweek 37.

Their schedule (eve WBA wat tot CHE) is promising, particularly if Chelsea reach the FA Cup final and rest key players in Gameweek 38 as a result.

And their form is excellent, with that fine run at home augmented by an overall record of just one defeat in nine Gameweeks.

Perez (2.0%) has now scored in three successive matches, having netted twice in the first 30 Gameweeks of the season.

In fact, he has a goal and an assist from his last two fixtures and, at 5.3, could come into consideration as a budget striker.

Strike partner Dwight Gayle’s pitch-time now looks threatened by Islam Slimani, whose impact off the bench helped them to the points against the Gunners.

The day’s other goalscorer, Ritchie (1.8%), has been overshadowed by Kenedy’s recent form on the opposite flank, but he has now scored in three of Newcastle’s last four home matches.

On the downside, both Gameweek 37 clashes are away; a fact offset somewhat by their home fixtures involving West Brom and a cup-chasing Chelsea showing erratic form.

Defensively, the Magpies have conceded just six times in seven Gameweeks since goalkeeper Martin Dubravka arrived – only Liverpool (four) are more resilient.

So for those still with Wildcards, Florian Lejeune (4.3) and DeAndre Yedlin (4.4) have an assist each to go along with two clean sheets from their last four starts, with the American recording only his second attacking return of the season in Sunday’s victory.

On deciding the 3 City players for FH35.
Currently on De Bruyne, Sterling, pick the 3rd:

    A) Sane
    B) Dilva
    C) Jesus

I am currently thinking Dilva unless Aguero is confirmed out, let's hope we will have a confirmation we can trust(press conference) before the deadline.

Think Silva will be given more time off to go back to Spain with the league tied up. Also more options in his position to get others (Foden, Yaya) a medal

            Thanks for the tip!
Also, i just saw that Silva has much more higher returns in away matches.
But do you think about Sane then?
Or should i go for just 2 City players to reduce the rotation risk?

Have three, it makes sense. Just make sure you have a bench to back it up. Jesus ideal if Aguero confirmed out. Alternatively, after his rest last week, I'm looking at Otamendi in the likely event that Alonso gets a suspension during this week

Probably C as there are plenty of good MD options from other teams but not many FW options for GW 35

Bayern 20 points clear at the top, PSG 17 points clear, City 16. Those are some winning margins!
With Juve also 23 points clear of Roma in third, Barca amazingly 15 clear of Real in third, the top leagues in Europe are far from competitive this season!

Tosun is at home. I saw him play in the Derby. Everton are not supplying him a damn thing rn. Awful conservative fat-sam football. Sitting deep and not breaking with much intent when we do have possession.

I'd be more inclined to pick Bobby, as much as it pains me to say, and downgrade VVD.

This isn’t correct. Don’t spread lies. It doesn’t matter when you activate your FH chip, no transfers made that week will be reflected in your team the following week.

For example, I used my chip to undo an I’ll advised -4 hit. I suffered no hit and did not have either of the players I brought in for a hit the following week

            Lies?......I'm not spreading anything. Calm down. This is FF. The reason for my confusion is from reading a piece doen by the official scout. This quote taken from the ff premier league official site and recent guide (under the scout section) on how to use the free chip;

"Any transfers made in the Gameweek before activating the Free Hit chip will be incorporated in your new squad.

Any transfer costs or "hits" spent before activating the chip will then be restored.

However, it also means that any players sold will return to your squad in the next Gameweek"

            1. Going Home
              • 12 Years

"Any transfers made in the Gameweek before activating the Free Hit chip will be incorporated in your new squad" - i.e. transfers made before activating the FH will form part of your FH squad

"Hits will be restored" - i.e. you will not be punished for making changes before activating your FH chip

"Players sold will return to your squad in the next GW" - i.e. if you sell a player in the week you play FH, that player will return to your side the following week

It causes confusion to people who read this and haven't played their FH chip yet, placing them at a disadvantage

Because there was a significant touch from a defender between Kane making the pass and Eriksen putting the ball in the net. I'm not sure why people still find this difficult. Same as Lowton's non-assist for Wood's goal the other week

still rubbish, this is what could still be imrpoved in this game imo, same as the bonus points system. not a true reflection of football.

im all for assist going to the player that creates the opportunity, regardless of whether it gets a touch after the shot etc or before player shoots.

But the rules are fairly clear:

"If an opposing player touches the ball after the final pass before a goal is scored, significantly altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is awarded. Should two opposing players touch the ball after the final pass before a goal is scored, then no assist is awarded. If the goal scorer loses and then regains possession, then no assist is awarded"

Whether you like the rule or not, the rule has always been the same. The argument being that Kane (or Lowton in my earlier example) created an opportunity, which Eriksen (or Wood in my eg) didn't take. Then a second opportunity arose, which they scored. You can argue that, without their pass/cross, the chance wouln't have arisen; but that's like arguing that Kante/Matic winning the ball in the middle of the park should be credited with an assist where it ultimately results in a goal.

Agree to an extent re bonus - but I remember the days where it was just a fella at the ground who would (seemingly) randomly pick three guys to give extra points to. At least there is now some science to it. FWIW I would do away with them, as they basically offer an additional reward for players who have already earned points (from goals/assists/clean sheets)

I understand the rule, I just believe it would be better without it. There should be a level of human judgment there with a lot of common sense to deem what is an assist and what isn’t..and no it’s nothing like Kante winning the ball in midfield..I’m purely talking about through balls and opportunity creating passes. Anyway of course it won’t change just think it’s unrealistic from a footballing point of view, you think spurs didn’t give harry the assist on Saturday because someone else touched it? Lol no of course not, ...too many non footballers/tecchy people probably involved in the rule making lol (you can tell this by the bonus system...lose points for shots off target?!? Lol
My manager constantly praises us for shooting from midfield and on this game you lose points! Lol)

It’s not a big deal, think the game is great besides this and yes I agree about scrapping bonus or at very least MOM and 1 or 2 exceptional performers from either side get a few points each.

But "human judgement" would mean more people having a whinge and a whine on here. At least the way it is, we all know exactly where we stand (as much as possible, without getting into the JEvans/McCauley chat from last year, or the Kane/Eriksen goal from last week).

Whether or not Spurs gave Kane the assist, the Premier League didn't for the purposes of their records - surely they are more important (look at Spurs petitioning them to give Kane Eriksen's goal haha). Yes, Kane was heavily involved and the goal wouldn't have happened but for his involvement. But what about the guy who passed the ball to him? The worst ones being where someone plays an excellent ball in which is then knocked down for someone to tap in - the creator gets no credit in terms of points. But you know that when picking your team and can consider who will get the points.

I think we agree about the way BPS are calculated. Sterling gets no credit for his excellent movement which gets him into positions to score, but loses BPS for missing the chance. But at least you can look at the criteria and pick players accordingly, rather than seeing Villa draw 2-2 away from home and Martin Laursen received two BPs!!!

yes i get what you're saying, i'm not saying my suggestion would ever be used, as i dont think it can and as you say there would be lots of people complaining as we all look at football in different ways, both from a playing and a non playing point of view (although i dont agree about the knock down to tap in as that is clear cut assist, that wasnt my point) .....anyway im probably just extremely bitter after this GW and my 13 dgw's getting an average of 2.7pts each ! haha

    Foster
    TAA Lowton Ake Baines Alonso
    Walcott Shaqiri Hazard Eriksen Lingard
    Barnes Aubamayang Lukaku

Seeing as Ake has no game in 35 and no double in 37 he has to go.

Who else would you recommend to sell and which defender would you get to replace Ake?

1st draft FH team - thoughts?

    Pickford (3.9)
    Baines, Mustafi, Robertson (Long, Dummett)
    Salah(c), Sterling, Arnautovic, Zaha (Cork)
    Aubameyang(vc), Jesus, Firmino

    0.6m spare.

Would like a 3rd City player, probably in place of Arnie, but budget an issue....

Was suggesting Gundogan in for Arnie. Frees up 1.7m so could get Mili in for Cork to cover the Salah/Firmino rest risk. Then still have 1.7m to upgrade Dummet in case of Robertson rotation

What is the last premier league positions that might give a European qualification and under which conditions?
Is there any possibility for 8th to qualify to Europa League?

    1. Going Home
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 12 days ago

If Arsenal win the Europa League and Southampton do not win the FA Cup, 8th will qualify for the EL next season:

City - UCL as league winners
Arsenal - UCL as EL winners
United - UCL from league position
Liverpool - UCL from league postion/as UCL winners
Spurs - UCL from league position
Chelsea - EL from league position
Two more EL places (from FA Cup and League Cup) which are allocated via league position

      5th is Europa
6th is Europa if League Cup winners already qualified for Europe (City)
7th is Europa if FA Cup winners already qualified for Europa (unless Southampton win, looking like 7th will get it too)

Not possible for 8th. Fair play league route into Europe was removed in 2015.

My team for 35 at the moment is:

    Pickford
    Long VVD
    Shaqiri Zaha Kenedy
    Auba (C) Wood

Want some city players for sure.
    Would you do:

    A: Mahrez to Sterling
B: Mahrez to Sterling, Hazard to Sane/ KDB
C: Mahrez to sterling, Hazard to Salah (C)

So basically is it worth going double city for rest of season or going for salah and taking potential rotation on the chin.

    Cheers
