Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 37

Unsurprisingly, Double Gameweek 37 players dominate in our latest Captain Poll, which was launched earlier today to gauge your views on the best armband options.

Chief among these are Tottenham Hotspur assets, who travel to bottom side West Brom on Saturday followed by a home clash with Newcastle United three days later.

Voters will be keenly watching events at Wembley tonight when Mauricio Pochettino’s troops play the final fixture of Gameweek 36 at home to Watford.

Although Harry Kane (13.0) has struggled for form, with a single FPL goal in his last six appearances, across the campaign the Spurs striker has proved to be an explosive captaincy option.

Kane has delivered eight double-digit points hauls and should gain extra motivation from his mission to overturn Mohamed Salah’s five-goal advantage in the Golden Boot race.

With six scores above 10 points Son Heung-min (8.3) is unlikely to be overlooked, particularly for the Magpies clash. The South Korean has served up nine goals and five assists in home matches.

Christian Eriksen (9.6)’s four double-digit returns makes him a less explosive option than Kane or Son. However, the Dane’s recent consistency may sway some opinion, with at least a goal or assist in four of his last five run outs, including a 15-point haul away to Stoke in Gameweek 33.

Three goals and as many assists over his last five league matches make Dele Alli (9.0) another in-form Spurs asset to consider.

The North Londoners won’t have it easy, though. Since Darren Moore took charge in early April, the Baggies are unbeaten, including a victory over Manchester United and a draw with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s backline has proved miserly over their last six outings, conceding just four times, with only Liverpool shipping less (three).

Even with the league title wrapped up Manchester City’s stars are refusing to take their foot off the gas with nine goals in their last two matches as champions.

This fine recent form, as well as two favourable home ties against Huddersfield and Brighton, is already seeing considerable interest in their assets.

The Terriers have been particularly poor on the road over the season with their last clean sheet way back in Gameweek 6. Brighton have been similarly obliging, with just one shut-out in six road trips, shipping nine goals along the way.

Gabriel Jesus (10.3) is in excellent form with four goals and three assists over his last five starts. Already this week he is the most acquired player with more than 33,000 transfers in.

With 30,000+ new owners, Raheem Sterling (9.0) is the most popular midfield target and has been similarly impressive, claiming double-digit hauls in all three of his last league matches, including a hat-trick of assists in the 4-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

Leroy Sane (8.6)’s strike against the Hammers, his tenth of the campaign, may also garner interest and Kevin De Bruyne (10.3)’s home form should also see him earn attention. On home turf, the Belgian has supplied a high league-high number of assists (14) and chances created (62) and has also found the net five times.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba (7.9) and Alexis Sanchez (11.5) put forward a strong case for consideration in their 2-1 home defeat of Arsenal on Sunday. The Frenchman’s goal was his sixth of the campaign and third in the last four matches. Meanwhile, Sanchez’s assist against his former employers was his fourth in as many starts, over which time he has also scored once and earned two scores of 10 points or more.

During Gameweek 37 the Red Devils travel to a Brighton side without a home clean sheet in 2018 and also drop by West Ham, who have shipped eight over their last four London Stadium matches.

Chelsea’s home tie with Huddersfield next Wednesday looks the more favourable of their encounters, arriving three days after they entertain Liverpool.

Blues assets put forward for consideration include Eden Hazard (10.5), with a goal and assist over his last two starts. Their striker Olivier Giroud (8.2) is another, given he scored a brace off the bench against Southampton in Gameweek 34.

Mohamed Salah (10.6) may only have one fixture but, with 14 double-digit hauls, the PFA Player of the Year could still generate interest.

Among the differential options is Jordan Ayew (5.3), ahead of Swansea’s must-win games against Bournemouth away and Southampton at the Liberty Stadium. Between them, the two south coast sides have shipped 16 times over their last four run outs. Meanwhile, Ayew has been involved in more than a third (36%) of all his side’s goals this season.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 37 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

The Burnley game kicks off about 66 hours after Arsenal's biggest game of the season finishes. The chances of the first team players starting are surely 50/50 at best?

well i am the captain of the Ship for Hits, and i went overboard last week, -20 and gained about 4 points and that includes that i still have Kane (c) to go. That was the logic, yes, to get them in before West Ham-) so i might actually benefit from the hits.

My big differential move this week? Saving my free transfer.

Apart from city players there are few players I feel confident will produce, especially in this unpredictable part of the season. Hoping to rise merely by not inflicting damage.

      1. bench boost for every gamew…

pondering that myself, after my hit bonanza last week. Still triple Leicester, but Morgan is the only one i really would change and i have a plan to get rid of Vahrez for free in 38 so i´ll just leave it and prays Morgan starts both matches and score me some points. To upgrade i have to take another hit and admittedly i think i want Smalling and Arnie over Morgan and Mahrez, but Leicester is home and against teams that plays open and fun football, could be high scoring games and in which Mahrez could find his feet again, hopefully.

        1) Salah, Willian, Vardy and Bailly -> Sterling, Son, Jesus and Dummett (-8)

          You're basically asking:
          1) Willian Bailly -> Son Dummett (-8)
          2) Mahrez Bailly -> Son Vert/Davies (-8)
          3) Mahrez Bailly -> Eriksen Cedric/Naughton (-8)

          2 IMO, with Vert

I’m in the lead in my league, guy behind me is just 20p away.

We have almost the same team, he went for Sterling and Son -4 this week and I was stupid not to sell Willian and Mahrez.

        Should I:

A: Block him and get Sterling and Son

B: Do -8 and sell Salah, Willan, Mahrez => Sterling, Eriksen, DSilva

Time to put my ultimate decision out there - against the grain but no hit vs Kane with lots of hits:

        A) Barnes > J.Ayew (FT)
        B) Vardy, Salah, Son > Kane, Sané, Lingard (-8)

        Current team:
        1FT £1.1itb
        DDG
        Vert, Smalling, Mustafi, Morgan
        Salah, Sterling, Eriksen (V), Son
        Jesus(C), Vardy
        (Ryan) (Mili, Barnes, Lowton)

Is it really worth ripping things up to get Kane in? For what it's worth the 3 people above me in my cash ML all have Kane and only one has Salah

RMT tool tells me I'm better with A) but what do you all think?

        Thanks!

        2FT’s for 37 and I’m certainly ok with taking a hit, a -4 at least I reckon.
        De Gea Ryan
        Alonso Maguire PvA Kiko Tarkowski
        Salah Mahrez Willian Lingard Groß
        Kane Vardy Barnes

I’m not happy with Vardy and Barnes in my frontline, so looking at Jesus and Ayew makes sense. Mahrez and Morgan make up the 3 LEI musketeers which I’m willing to sell, along with Alonso, Groß, and - sadly - Kiko.
I can’t get rid of them all, so in your opinion, who’s a priority to ditch?
        And is Sterling a must?

        Cheers.

Similar to my team. I want Mahrez gone before vardy

Yes, I would like do ditch my LEI assets too.

            Mahrez to .....?
Would it be stupid not to own Sterling?
I would love Son but 36 was probably the time to get him.
And how do we get Jesus in?
            Bye to Alonso?
