Dugout Discussion – Spurs vs Watford

Gameweek 36 comes to its conclusion as Spurs welcome Watford to Wembley in Monday’s 8pm kick-off.

After Mohamed Salah’s rare blank on Saturday, Harry Kane has the chance to shake up the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings tonight.

The second top captain pick (17.84%) for this round of fixtures, Kane was handed the armband by 54 of the top 100 managers heading into Gameweek 36.

He was also the most bought player, earning 241,000 new owners, and is again the top transfer in as the north London side prepare for Double Gameweek 37 clashes against West Brom and Newcastle.

Yet his form is hardly prolific, with just a single goal scored over his last six league outings.

By comparison, the Spurs midfield have been far more reliable.

Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min have both scored four times over the same period, while Dele Alli has netted on three occasions and also supplied a trio of assists.

The Dane is the most captained of that trio, with 84,608 FPL managers backing him with the armband.

Son could be the big differential. Handed the captaincy by just 32,917 FPL managers, the South Korean international has averaged seven points per home match this season.

Furthermore, he served up two goals and an assist in the corresponding fixture with the Hornets last term.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted Harry Kane is still feeling the effects of last month's ankle injury but said the England striker would be fully fit for the World Cup.

Kane missed one Spurs game and two England friendlies after suffering ankle ligament damage against Bournemouth on April 11 but he scored for the third time in five matches since returning in the 2-0 win over Watford on Monday.

Despite the goals, which have moved him onto 105 in the Premier League, Kane has not looked his usual self and he missed a couple of simple chances against the struggling Hornets.

Asked if Kane was still suffering a hangover from the ankle injury, Pochettino said: "Yes, of course.

"It is a mix about different things. I think it wasn't a great period for him the last few weeks. He is human and, like everyone, was a little bit affected but with the help of everyone is doing well.

"He needs to improve still but he is happy -- 150 games in the Premier League, 105 goals. What we can say more about him? Fantastic striker. I am happy for him that he scored today and happy for the team.

"Of course he will be fit for the World Cup. He is a strong guy -- physically and mentally. I am sure that, first of all, he is going to perform for us in a very good way and then no doubt he'll arrive in a very good condition to the World Cup."

He just looks slow and lethargic. Agreed, he was unlucky not to get a second, but his form and the form of the team in general just doesn't scream goals galore. Spurs were very lucky last night - if it wasn't for Watford's abysmal finishing in front of goal that could have been a close call.

20 points behind in my mini league thanks to jammy Trippier. I need Sterling but also some differentials so this is what I have planned:

Robertson > Bavies, Son > Eriksen (he has Son), Salah > Sterling. Leaves me with:

    De Gea
    Otamendi / Morgan / Bavies
    Sterling / Eriksen / Willian / Kenedy / Zaha
    Kane / Jesus (TC)

Subs: Hennessey / Barnes / Tarkowski / Lowton

He has Azpilicueta, Chilwell, Trippier, Son, Lingard, Vardy and Murray different from me. He has 2 FT but not enough for Jesus and Eriksen, so i suspect he will TC Kane. Is triple captaining Jesus a good idea or should I play safer? Want to overtake him but staying alive until the final week is good too.

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Vertonghen over Davies. If I were you I'd be tempted to just match him with Son and avoid the hit, make up the points elsewhere. I'll be triple captaining Sterling, no mind games for me, I simply think Sterling will score the most points

Ok thanks. Sound plan. So you have Jesus and going for Sterling TC?

Also, what do you think of keeping Zaha? I know he doesn’t have a double but seems worth holding onto with two decent fixtures.

        Thanks for your help.

Yeh there's a slight risk he doesn't play 180 mins but I think it's worth the risk. Captaining him over Jesus and Kane.

Not a huge fan of hits so I'd keep, not much else in his price bracket and he has form and fixture (albeit a single fixture)

Cedric and a cheeky punt on Masuaku? Yes he was benched last GW but pretty sure that was a tactical shuffle to be more defensive against City. They got torn apart anyway. I'd say he comes straight back in, he brings attacking threat and could link with Arnie from the left, West Ham have something to play for. And most importantly, he's 4.2 and a major differential. I read an article a few weeks ago with Moyes saying he's happy with Masuaku but would like to see him deliver more goals and assists to finish off the season.

LOL ouch. A rival who is ahead of you? Will he definitely play him / use BB? I wouldn't rule it out if you're ahead or have other differentials. The more points the better surely, rather than getting some other 4.4 defender or below that isn't nailed and has a low ceiling.

Unlike VDH, you just never know. Maybe he grabs a surprise goal or assist in the DGW. At least there's some potential for more than CS points and maybe even a 15-pointer, which on a BB is not a bad shout, however unlikely.

Personally I would forget the DGW hype and get Naughton + Bauer (possible OOP). I had double Burnley defence in my BB GW34 and my entire BB ended with 5 points. SGW players can still do the job if the fixtures are right.

If you are still left in your mini league title race, you're one of 2 players, a chaser or a leader, and i think captaincy options are very different for both, which are you and who do you fancy for captaincy? Im leading mine, i think Kane could be the safe option.

yes its safe option..but he's in horrible form, the kind of form that would have kaku dumped from many a team with no questions asked. but harry gets special treatment as we all know.

Because he's a much better player than Lukaku

I'm leading mine, and only theoretical rival will almost certainly TC Kane, but I'm still not going to. Watching him last night, there are surely better options regardless.

Ayew should play both but Dilva may only play 1, I'm sure he will be there to lift the trophy.

Lingard owners - remove for a hit? Or just watch him pick up another 4 points over 2 games.

ogbonna for DF - nailed, decent fixtures, and possibly most crucially, something still to play for
