World Cup Fantasy managers turn to Rodriguez and Inui in Group H finale

Japan and Colombia have been backed by Fantasy managers to get positive results from the Group H finale, and progress to the World Cup knockout stages.

James Rodriguez (£9.0m) is the most high-profile asset in action this afternoon with 11.5 percent picking him against Senegal. Despite registering two assists in Colombia’s convincing 3-0 win over Poland, the Real Madrid midfielder has not earned an increase in ownership since Gameround 2.

However, the most popular player in the Group H finale is still Carlos Sanchez (£4.5m), who is expected to return from his one-match suspension earned after being red-carded against Japan.

Colombia’s opponents Senegal are once again not particularly fashionable with Fantasy managers. No player has higher ownership levels than midfielder Salif Sane (£4.5m) who sits in just 5.9 percent of squads. Youssouf Sabaly (£4.0m) remains owned by 4.5 percent of managers.

In the other Group H fixture, Japan’s budget options have proved the most popular, although no player in the match is owned by more than a tenth of McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy managers.

Takashi Inui (£4.5m) will be the main focus after he scored and assisted in the 2-2 draw with Senegal. His ownership has just about doubled since Gameround 2, rising to 7.1 percent.

In the same number of squads is full-back Hiroki Sakai (£4.0m). A sure starter, he is yet to get a Fantasy return in Russia but registered three assists in qualifying.

Already eliminated Poland have been almost completely deserted by Fantasy managers. Robert Lewandowski (£9.5m) remains their most popular player but has lost three percent ownership since Gameround 2.

Colombia lack composure on the ball, very poor at any sustained possession.

If Colombia go through and James is able to play again, are you willing to take another chance on him?

They are going to play either Belgium or England so no. Would be a push even if fit.

No, mainly because of the strong opposition. He is brilliant when fit but 9.0 is too much.

Poland really are pathetic, just going through the motions and going back to their keeper with no real intent to go out and win the game. They could still sneak a 1-0 but compare their efforts to South Korea and Peru and it's night and day.

South Korea still had a chance of qualifying, but yes I see your point.

Them and Lewandowski have been the second biggest disappointments this tournament, Germany undoubtedly first. They have Lewy, a good player in Zielinski and plenty of other decent players albeit aging so not sure how it's gone so wrong for them.

Even without bonus points I still managed to beat my worst ever GW score from FPL on this terrible week! 32 with Sabaly playing and hopefully Inui off bench still going...

(Worst ever FPL was like 24/25 or something)

On the first day of the season after Euro 2106

Let this be a lesson to you all. Avoid player who have played in the late stages of the WC 😉

Same. Sometimes I think we over think it on FFS.

Should just pick the obvious players.

It just goes to show it's better on average to play safe with captain choices. If you already have captained a 6 or 7-pointer, it's not statistically likely to be surpassed, and there's no safety net if it's your last player of the round.

For what it's worth I twisted as well (from Suarez), but wouldn't have done so if I was in a close mini-league.

I assume mainly Belgium, England, Spain, Croatia and Brazil. The problem is they will most likely play against each other in QF and only 5FT after QF to be used.

Mainly those, yeah. I dont expect to have a full 15 player squad in QFs/SFs without a WC.

Wouldnt call it superb exactly. Yes he got the ball but he was late so had to go in with scissor tackle which is a red on another day not to mention one of the most dangerous tackles for injuries.
