Meunier is Fantasy top scorer as Belgium beat England to World Cup bronze

Belgium’s World Cup Fantasy options rewarded their owners with a parting gift in their last match of the tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Those invested in England were left disappointed though, as they were unable to register any returns.

We’ve got all the goals and assists and Fantasy talking points from the World Cup third/fourth place play-off.

BELGIUM 2-0 ENGLAND

TOP-SCORING PLAYERS:

  • Thomas Meunier (£6.0m) – 12 points
  • Thibaut Courtois (£6.0m) – 7 points
  • Eden Hazard (£10.1m) – 6 points
  • Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) – 6 points
  • Vincent Kompany (£5.7m) – 6 points
  • Toby Alderweireld (£5.8m) – 6 points
  • Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8m) – 5 points
  • Nacer Chadli (£6.9m) – 4 points

Thomas Meunier (£6.0m) was the top-scorer as Belgium beat England in the World Cup third/fourth place play-off.

The wing-back finally rewarded his 10.7 percent ownership with his first and final goal of the tournament, after showing promise both in qualifying and the earlier stages in Russia.

He even had a chance to add another strike in the second-half as his drive from the right was saved spectacularly by Jordan Pickford (£5.5m).

On top of his fourth-minute goal, assisted by Nacer Chadli (£6.9m), Meunier kept the clean sheet too. His defensive colleagues, Thibaut Courtois (£6.0m), Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m), Vincent Kompany (£5.7m) and Toby Alderweireld (£5.8m) also banked points for the shut-out.

England came into the tie a little more in the second-half with Harry Kane (£11.2m), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (£5.7m) and Eric Dier (£5.7m) the most dangerous.

Owners of Romelu Lukaku (£10.0m) were initially disappointed by his withdrawal in the 59th minute but he was eventually awarded two points for playing 60th minutes by McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy.

Belgium finally put the game beyond England late in the second-half, catching them on the break. Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8m) was allowed too much space to thread Eden Hazard (£10.1m) through to slot home.

BELGIUM XI (3-4-2-1): Courtois; Vertonghen, Kompany, Alderweireld; Chadli (Vermaelen 39’), Witsel, Tielemans (Dembele 78’), Meunier; Hazard, De Bruyne; Lukaku (Mertens 60’).

ENGLAND XI (3-1-4-2): Pickford; Maguire, Stones, Jones; Dier; Rose (Lingard 45’), Delph, Loftus-Cheek (Alli 84’), Trippier; Sterling (Rashford 45’), Kane.

20 goals and nothing for Walcott? I may need to reconsider bringing him in.

Playing or not I'd expect at least a couple of goals.

Glad I kept Meunier on the bench for the France game, got my reward this week! Barring some serious exploits by Griezmann, he should be my Max Captain. Little twinge of regret that wonderful volley didn't go in now since we ended up losing the game anyway.

That first half Everton line-up is very good news for those particularly interested in Lookman and Holgate. Quite possible that another CB is brough in but, should that not happen, Holgate could warrant a place on your watchlists. Same for Lookman - Bolasie is out injured for this game and Mirallas is currently tearing it up, but if Lookman carries on starting in pre-season, you'd assume he's at least pencilled in for that berth for GW1.

    A. Ederson; Azpilicueta, Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Coleman; Mané, Eriksen, Mahrez, Ramsey; Agüero, Zaha. Bench: 4.0, Douglas, Kenedy, 4.5

    B. Courtois; Mendy, Alexander-Arnold, Coleman; Salah, Eriksen, Ramsey, Jota; Agüero, Zaha, Jimenez. Bench: 4.0, 4.0, Douglas, Kenedy.

Not logical at all. Griezmann is a different player to Mbappe. Could be the right move but not for logical reasons. Personally think it would be best to stick, though.

He is but could cover a blazing French performance

Not if Griezmann doesn't score and Mbappe does. I'd just weigh up Griez' chance of scoring 7 or more. I don't think it's above 50%, so I'd stick

Depends on what's more important, overall rank or mini league.
