Best Liverpool players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Mohamed Salah will once again be the key Fantasy Premier League asset to own among Liverpool’s ranks this season.

The Egyptian may have had a huge price hike to £13.0m for 2018/19 but his underlying attacking numbers suggest he deserves to be valued higher than any of his colleagues.

However, there are plenty of cheaper options to consider for our FPL squads too as Jurgen Klopp’s men have a particularly appealing start to the new season.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view the important data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

Salah Ageuro, although I think you can find better value in Costa and Hughes at 5.0 than Jota and Deloufeu and use the money elsewhere?

Just been checking out bookies oddds. Wolves are expected to finish above the likes of Southampton, W Ham, palace and Burnley. Was quite suprised by that

Southampton yes, w Ham maybe... Burnley I couldn’t see it, unless Europa destroys them. Palace no way, I’d love to see a league table excluding the first 5 or 6 de boer games from last year... palace must be well into the top third of it

A prediction that will probably come back and bite me, but I do feel that Wolves could be a little bit more "special" than the usual promoted team and could have a very decent season.

From what I can see, their success last year was built around creating a Premier League worthy side rather than a good Championship side. Manager has an excellent pedigree, and they invested in Premier League standard players - or in the case of Neves, arguably Champions League.

    4. Piggs Boson
      • 12 Years

They absolutely dominated the Championship. Their 343 was tactically above everything else, and the quality of the players, especially Neves and Jota, was on a different level. This is not your normal promoted side imo.

    Good moaning

Our look at James Maddison continues our preseason content: http://whogottheassist.com/prospecting-the-prospects-james-maddison/

For the uninitiated we look at things a bit differently to FFS' reporting in that we tally up their 'points' last season as if they were in FPL, then use that and comparative stats for sites like Squawka to get a feel for the kind of player they'll be. PtPs on Jota, Sess and more are already complete too.

    Cheers

A wingback on set-pieces is really nice. Fingers in all the points pies. Should get a decent amount of attacking returns, and from what I hear, Wolves are solid defensively.

Do like Douglas. Think we may look at him separately. But certainly an FB on set plays is hugely desirable!

Yeah, usually hate 5.0m players. But I intend to play him against everyone but the top 6. Someone like Tomkins can come in for those games. It'll probably mean I play a crappy 4.0m defender less, which can only be a good thing.

The review of the player is great 🙂 but the generation of FPL points from his Championship season is ... err ... a bit of fun but pretty meaningless imho

      1. Individual
        • 10 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Of course it is to some extent, and we heavily caveat what we write for this exact kind of comment 😉

It's important as it gives us a feel for the player with a distinctly FPL flavoured twist, otherwise we're just doing what other sites do. It tends to work better when doing big players from foreign sides but hopefully it's still useful as a touchstone to people

        1. Hotdogs for Tea
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

Sure, yes I get that ... caveat should be in your first paragraph though imho 😉

.... This series analyses a selection of these newcomers to the FPL game by simulating how they would have performed using last season’s stats (wherever they played) as if they had been in FP - of course this does not mean they would have achieved these points but it is nevertheless an interesting analysis for those of us addicted to FPL ....

Happy with this for the time being - any glaring issues?

I envisage using the 0.5 in bank to do Silva & Mahrez -> Pogba & De Bruyne once they’re back.

    Pickford (Stekelenburg)
    Robertson, Mendy, Bailly, Cedric (Tomkins)
    Salah, Mahrez, Silva, Jota (Stephens)
    Aubameyang, Tosun (Quaner)

Lot of rotaation risk players: shaw, Daniels, martial, mahrez and lamela.

Counting that they will alll play first couple of rounds. After that, strong bench kicks in and can transfer in players who have been on WC and are regulars. How does it sound and look?

    Ederson
    Shaw-daniels-cedric
    Salah-mahrez-martial-lamela
    Arnautovic-zaha-firmino

I don't think you realise why players will be coming back late. It's not because they're "knackered from the world cup" - it's because they're taking a holiday as they haven't had one all year, and then need to join back up with the squad later.

Completely agree. Not worth shifting Firmino to a #10 to accommodate as he’s effectively a #10 anyway. Would weaken the already weak midfield.

There was a fair amount of noise early on about Man Utd too. For what it's worth I'm sure they won't sell unless the player himself wants to leave. Can't see it right now - he's the star man up front and now he has people who can actually supply him!

A lot of 4.5 keepers look quite risky

    Fabianski has Adrian for competition
    Foster has Gomes
    Hennessey has Guaita
    Patricio has Ruddy
    Forster has McCarthy

Even up into 5.0’s has some completion

    Leno/Cech
    Pope/Heston

Worth taking the risk of going 4.5-4.0?

Very rare occasion to see goalkeepers rotated/lose their spot unless injured.

I'm currently taking the risk due to budgetary issues, but don't feel entirely comfortable with the situation.

Looking at Guaita, Fabianski and Patricio, and hoping for some statements coming out to tell us who is nailed - but I guess the safest option might be a Ryan/Steele combination.

Who's Steele? From a promoted team?

          Unfortunately not - just Ryan's 4.0 understudy.

I'm with you - the 4.5's do look quite risky. There's only one there that will be definite (Rui Pat will be an absolute cert). I'd be tempted to go for two from the same team if it didn't block outfield options (e.g. two palace or WH keepers). At the moment I think picking two 4.5's who are 'probable' starters is my choice, but I can see why people are going to Pickford, Ederson etc. for certainty.

Everton do at the start at least.

In terms of fixture ease (rather than home/away), Burnley and West Ham look good.

World cup has made the first few weeks of the premier league a real lottery. Lots of wildcards by game week four.

Really tempted by Lamela at 6.5m as an initial punt.

    Thoughts?

I'm considering it too. He'll definitely play, but the worry is the quality around him and if they have a slow start because of it.

Currently flip flopping between him and Jota.

Lamela always threatens to have a break out season but never delivers. He'll be a started but in a depleted team - so either he'll be a key man and shine or he'll fall flat. He's also a transfer waiting to happen once the key players return to action.

Jota is unproven at this level but by all accounts is more than capable and will occasionally play as an OOP striker in a team that are tipped to finish comfortably in the top 10 by most. He's also a main man along side Douglas and Neves so will be nailed on for the season while fit.

I think they had 4 penalties last season and 4 different penalty takers..... so no idea.

Imagine if Sarri used RLC as a regular for Chelsea next to Jorginho and Kante...

    We haven't had a set-and-forget 5.5m midfielder since Mahrez.

    Bettinelli
    Kiko - Coleman - Robertson
    Salah - Mkhi - Mahrez - Lookman
    Arnie - Firm - Kun

    Fab - Cedric - Stephens - Wan-Bis

    RMT

    Pickford Fabianski
    Douglas Mendy Daniels Evans Yeldin
    Jota Sane Sanchez Masuaku Mkhitarayan
    Aubameyang Firmino Tosun

Thoughts? Trying to avoid anyone who was invovled in the World cup

If I was using 9.5m on GK I’d rather have one 5.5 in Ederson and a 4m dud IMO

Anyone else finding midfield picks really difficult this year? So much value in the 5-7.5 guys.

Currently have Salah Willian Jota Hughes as my starting 4 with Cairney 5th mid. Seems crazy to be comfortable with this lot when there's so many big names who are likely to start GW1 from the top 6 available.

Even if I downgrade one of my forwards or Salah I'm not sure which of those I would upgrade to a big priced mid. Two are going to be crucial to their teams (if Willian stays, if not Pedro who's 0.5m cheaper!) and Hughes and Jota have promising stats.

Really tough, I found there isn't really any 5.5 & below that will guarantee points, so I don't want to have too many of them in case they just lose value..

Hughes is the pick of the bunch at the 5/5.5 for me and has three favourable first fixtures. His returns when fit last year are great and could easily be a 5m starting mid in my team.

Cairney is more of the traditional punt type. I think it's more a fear of missing out if I drop him and he starts strong that's eating at me.

    Fabianski

    Maguire, Mendy, Otamendi, Robertson

    Mane, Sane, Eriksen

    Firmino, Arnie, Zaha

    Bench: Foster, Cedric, Kenedy, Lookman

Initial thoughts? No Salah but Mane & Firmino good cover?

No Salah a risk if he carries on where he left off, easier to downgrade to Mane if he doesn’t than vice versa IMO

    Morning chaps

Usually early RMT to put the feelers out:

    Beg/Boruc
    Bailly/Ced/Tark (Evans/Wan-B)
    Mhki/Mahrez/Martial/Salah (Romeu)
    Firm/Aguero/Wilson

Plan to WC mid Sept once World Cup options have freshened up.
Will rotate Burnley and Southampton defence once GW1 is out the way. Mid 4 should all start initially with question marks over Wilson and Aguero?
