Fantasy Eliteserien Gameweek 18 Preview

Well past the halfway point, we are now ready to resume normal Fantasy Eliteserien service. We look ahead to upcoming Gameweek 18, overshadowed by the start of the FPL season, potentially giving managers a chance to catch their opponents out.

Chip-review

As a little review, we’ve looked at the Eliteserien chips to delve into their power and possibilities, here by looking at the maximum potential from the first half of the season.

Park the buss: Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Park the Buss was a massive chip early on, as the double gameweeks in rounds 4 and 6 set up some huge scores for a lot of managers. Maximum payout for these gameweeks were 76 and 82 extra points respectively, and with a huge number of points for favourite players in gameweek 6.

2 Captains: Nailing your captain choice is always a difficult endeavour, but nailing 2 choices had some big potential if you targeted the double gameweek in gameweek 4. Gjermund Åsen alone picked up 30 points, with his teammate Kent-Are Antonsen delivering on a further 17; a potential 47 points there for the taking. Åsen was, at this point a popular choice, so quite a number of managers got a piece of this action as well.

Striker rush: Defying logic, the budget options take this one away, with a whopping 46 extra points being up for grabs in both gameweek 15 and 16. Central to these hauls are Molde youth star Erling Braut Håland, hauling 6 goals and an assist over the 2 gameweeks for 21 and 16 points respectively. He did this while Manchester United, amongst others, scouted him from the stands. Around him other budget names packed in some scores, with Frank Boli (Stabæk), Runar Espejord (Tromsø), Bendik Bye (Kristiansund), and Kristian Fardal Opseth (Bodø/Glimt) all scoring in double digits. While many might have had Håland in their side, few capitalised fully on the chip-opportunity for these rounds.

Gameweek 18 feature matches

Rosenborg – Stabæk
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Having sacked their head coach and his assistant, the caretaker coach set about adjusting the Rosenborg midfield somewhat, flipping the V for the midfield 3 and giving Mike Jensen the advanced number 10 role. This showed immediate effect as he netted a goal and banged one off the crossbar in their recent away clash against Ranheim. Jensen also showed some signs of form against Celtic in the champions league qualifier, and finally looks a decent option at his now 9.3 price tag. With their top 3 wingers on the injury-list, budget option Jonatan Levi is getting a lot of gametime, and has showed a lot of promise. We’re looking at him to break out against league straglers Stabæk this weekend. The lack of true wingers has also opened the striker spot for Alexander Søderlund, but he still looks a bit rusty and struggles to find the net. Niklas Bendtner is now out wide and not looking a big threat either. Birger Meling however firmly stakes his claim as the Eliteserien equivalent of Alonso, as he is storming up and down the line like a winger, seeing a lot of action in the box, and even netted a goal at Celtic Park in the qualifiers.

Molde – Brann
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Brann have been stumbling and are not looking as solid as they were in the first half of the season, but still look mighty strong. This matchup will be a true test as in form Molde are closing the gap fast to rejoin the title race, led by young star Erling Braut Håland and a solid midfield line. We’re looking at Eirik Hestad and Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the Molde midfield as big options as well. From Brann, Gilli Rolantsson once again scored in the last match, showing big potential. They have not had many penalties, but Wormgoor still looks a decent pick, and last match their midfield virtuoso Fredrik Haugen showed class with a great free kick in the back of the net.

MrKlin says..

In the midst of Europa League qualifiers, teams like Rosenborg, Sarpsborg, and Molde have hit the back half of the season running, looking to have picked up some form by their earlier resuming of play. This has resulted in good looking scorelines for the trio, but also offers rotation headaches for managers looking to get players in. Rosenborg and Molde are well covered, but Sarpsborg are, in addition to their qualifiers mid-week, heading in to a tough couple of games hosting, Lillestrøm and then away to Brann. Despite their form you might want to think twice about investing here, but putting Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen on the watchlist now might be advisable. A huge home game for IK Start who, despite getting thumped by Brann, are showing signs of turning it around under new management. Winger Kevin Kabran is once more looking enticing and their next fixture is at home against a Ranheim team who are a bit out of form. An outside punt on Elliot Kack can also be considered, and at 4.2 this could be a good pick to free up some cash should you need it. Also have a look at Haugesund’s premium defender Alexander Stølås, who has scored good points in 3 of the last 4, and has some good fixtures coming up in his next 3.

Scout Picks

MrKlin’s picks for Gameweek 18

Bråtveit
Meling – Tønne – Stølås
Jensen – Akintola – Nguen – Levi – Kabran
Braut Håland – Pedersen

        Thanks for the update.

The blighter wasn’t flagged when I made my free transfer ... it can’t be beyond the wit of mankind to flag players when the new game week officially starts? ... probably would have kept him though 🙂

Good point. Looks like they haven't made the correction, although can't say I'd noticed for either:

Does NFF have a page that lists weekly suspensions? There's the list but it requires tracking: https://www.fotball.no/fotballdata/turnering/toppscorer-gule-og-rode-kort/?fiksId=158475

Who to captain this week? I currently have it on EUA.. not sure why. Any must have in terms of transfers? My strikers are awful with Pedersen, Esperjord and Braut Haland so any clues as to who to get in.

      1. MTPockets
          5 years, 8 months ago

I'm on EUA as well. May change if I end up wildcarding but probably won't.

I think the form vs fixture thing is difficult this week, particularly with potential injuries and midweek EL games, so it's hard to suggest transfers.

Pedersen seems fine and Håland will probably return to being essential now that Molde don't have EL. So not all that bad. Maybe Espejord to someone like Lehne Olsen or Jebali if you can afford.

Dilemma: bamba out, and get Braut Haaland in or M.Pedersen in for a -4?

Longer term Haaland as Molde out of europe, but tricky call this week as may be benched/subbed. Pedersen a good shout if he starts, and esp home games. If had to pick then Haaland because no hit.

As I said he's underperformed pretty much every week, but slightly overperformed this week with 2 goals. At least goal scoring wise, could easily had some assists.. Like every week. His FKs are immense though, scored quite a few last season as well. Pair that with some of the shocking GKs in Norway and you have a consistent goal scorer 😉

For sure, still probably my favourite Eliteserien player in terms of set pieces and shooting + position versatility + general hard working team player. Plus he captains himself.

Boli could have scored another couple in his game, but Sandefjord so it's hard to gauge relatively.

He's always the main asset. Every week. Just check the live updates.

He'll finish as the top scorer in the game. He's returning points every week and is still underperforming in my opinion

I won't be surprised if he'll finish the top scorer of the game. Still some nice fixtures coming up as well.

Boli has gone under the radar for me. Thinking about wildcarding, and he looks a good option.

Boli has looked good for a few weeks. Sold him last minute on my WC though for Håland, hopefully Håland could match him today but not even sure if he starts.

Håland is of course one to consider too, especially now that Molde don't have EL matches to play.

Jebali also an option. Think a front-three of Boli, Jebali. Håland could be interesting, but risky.

If I'd been a bit braver that would have been my line up this week, decided to hold Pedersen instead of getting in Jebali and regretting it a bit now.

Same! Would have been a -4, so that kept me from doing it. On WC that decision could be easier.

Considering wildcarding too. Only 9 weeks left and no likely dgw so need to use it, but fairly happy with my team really so seems a waste.

It's the very same situation here. Not too many transfers to make (4 - possibly 5), but WC could be a nice way to avoid taking hits.

                                            Two chips left too.

By far the best goalie in the league. Rosenborg should keep a few clean sheets going forward - even with EL matches.

Here to brag about my GW rank of 90 in Fantasy Allsvenskan (and that's with another 20 points on the bench with Petric and Moros!)

Solid week in Eliteserien so far too with goals from EUA and Levi, just need RBK and Brann to hang on to their clean sheets for a decent climb this week.

Yep, all the way down in 11th but got the highest score in the league this week. Overall rank of 1.6k which probably isn't as impressive as you'd think with only 18k players but I've barely even watched any highlights.

Gonna be quite an exciting home stretch with AIK still unbeaten but not out of sight yet.

Looks fine. I'm considering similar and undecided between 2 bra def + rbk gk/def vs. vice versa.
From highlights Layouni takes a great (assist creating) corner, but not sure how good in open play.
Pedersen - loathe to sell him given value tied up but think EUA enough SIF for me.

When I got Layouni in earlier in the season (and proceeded to bench him for most of his points) it was based on how good he was in open play, only recently realised he's on corners. Carries the ball forward very well with his rangy style, dangerous from either side.

Can't see Hansen being rotated so I'd definitely look to get him over Radlinger, the latter makes too many mistakes and although most Brann/RBK defenders are great, Brann guys are better value imo.

I agree on Hansen. He's a MUCH better option than Radlinger because he's a much better keeper. He will get more bonus points and could also get more saves simply because Rosenborg concede more shots than Brann (fairly sure, don't have the stats atm)

Brann also got two amazing options at the back in Wormgoor (penalties, set pieces threat and bonus) and Rolantsson (OOP), while Rosenborg only got Meling who's an amazing option.

I had no doubt when I was on my WC. Got the backline Greyhead has in here (well, I wanted Tønne over Granli but budget didn't allow it)

Hansen COULD be rotated. He was rotated last season, but IIRC there was also an injury there and they didn't want to rush him back. I'd get either Maric (4.2) or Sandberg (4.3) just to have a starter just in case. If you really need the extra money then it shouldn't be a big problem going with a 3.9 GK.

Cheers all good points. My previous comment didn't explain my thinking v well but I've been considering Radlinger in a rotation, and unlikely to play 4 at the back. With Stolas and perhaps Tonne I thus didn't really need 3 BRA/RBK defs. Not sure fixtures justify set and forget either. However:
                                                        1) If Rolantsson is now nailed OOP that maybe changes things
                                                        2) I need to look into GK relative saves and bps

Rolantsson is definitely nailed on OOP as long as he isn't needed at full back. With Teniste back and the addition of Grøgaard at LB Brann have more depth at full back.

Oh and Radlinger have disappointed me, way too many howlers. Doesn't make a lot of saves as mentioned, so he's just relying on clean sheets. Hansen has even got bonus twice with no CS.

See that Marengo's currently injured, but what happened with him - thought he looked quite good early on. No threat to Rolantsson's OOP?

Coach doesn't fancy him really. He's definitely looked good at times and has qualities good enough for this league.. He doesn't do enough in defence though, he's even stated he hates defensive work. Such a weird buy to be honest, a proper panic buy deadline day last summer. Not the type of winger the coach prefers.

Rolantsson is a very hard working player and the coach has stated how vital it is too the team to have Rolantsson at left wing. He's even played Kristiansen half injured a couple of times at left back to be able to push Rolantsson up. Rolantsson should be one of the most nailed on players in the team and he'll definitely play LW whenever it's possible.

Marengo should be no threat at all, he'll be an impact sub and a starter only if there's injuries. Would be surprised to see him here next season.

Everything I can find suggests he's optimistic about being ready, but we'll know before the deadline anyway.

I'm just about ready to wildcard so it'll be a big help knowing the lineups for Haugesund vs. Brann where I have 5 players involved.

Any recommendations for Bendtner replacement. Think I’m picking between Boli, Jebali or Opseth.

Boli seems in incredible form but feel I’ve missed the boat.

Opseth has best fixtures (for next 2) if San/IKS are still rubbish?

Jebali is at RBK though, I don’t see much video of ES so haven’t done eye test. Maybe leaning on Jebali due to RBK factor, is that sound?

I've gone for all 3 on my wildcard. Basically agree with your rationales. Watched some STB game highlights to gauge Boli and frankly he could have scored more, but probably Jebali if had to pick one for longer term.
