The best set piece takers and targets for FPL Gameweek 3

Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

    As part of shifting some value towards my defence, I'm thinking about getting Ings in. Who would you transfer out?

    A) Zaha (better fixtures)
    B) Arnautovic (pens and higher involvement)

    I'd really wanted to keep Arnie as think he'll do well this season, but I think he has to go (of those two).

        I feel like Ederson is the best route into the defence and has a very high chance of getting clean sheets/bonus points. Mendy yes could haul huge figures.. but so could Robertson/Alonso.

      I like your 5 3 2 strategy. Could work out. But I think both DDG and Luiz dont have attacking points in them and hence not good value. I would personally downgrade DDG and upgrade Luiz to Alonso though probably not for a hit. Maybe one at a time or when on wildcard.

    Is it time to start taking risks? players like shaw/ pedro/ B silva all offer value but undoubtedly are risky picks.. Looking at the returns it could be worth it.. Having a decent bench playing 4.0 Def and 5m mids might make this very viable and change the way we play WCs?

      Shaw & Bilva weren't risks in the first two weeks, IMO if you've not had then from GW1 don't waste a transfer on Shaw who isn't nailed. Bilva IMO is now as nailed as you can be with KDB news...

    I can't wait for Bilva to score this week. All these people doing Bilva > Mkhi. I still think it's a bad move. A very assured midfield starter in a City team against wlv NEW FUL is crazy to take out. Mkhi has WHU car new which is worse.

    I do think Mkhi is a good pick on the season too, but not for Bilva.

      Agreed. If you're taking out, say, Eriksen or Sanchez for Mkhi it's a no brainer but I wouldn't take Bilva out.

      People are knee-jerking because he blanked in a 6-goal game, forgetting that it doesn't mean he blanks next time out.

    Mark very withdrawn this season, not hosting the podcast, not even on it more often than not, not doing his official FPL stuff. Is there anywhere I’m not aware of that he’s putting out content? I tend to tune out others on the podcast for some reason he just sounds a lot better informed on how real life football impacts FPL
