Salah and Mendy increasingly shunned by top 10,000 FPL managers

Mohamed Salah and Benjamin Mendy have become less fashionable options to own according to the current top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

Both players have seen their popularity in that bracket fall going into Gameweek 7, as the Liverpool man blanked again and Mendy did not play once again.

We continue to look at how the top managers are lined up for the latest round of matches Gameweek 7 and how that compares to the overall trends.

Most Selected Players

The most popular line-up for the top 10k managers sees the departure of two main stars for the first time this season. Salah and Benjamin Mendy both made way this week for more popular options such as Richarlison (47.8%), Ryan Fraser (49.6%) and James Maddison (47.5%) in midfield. Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier (41.1%) and Ryan Bennett (32.7%) increased in popularity in defense. Suddenly Salah has become as a huge differential in the top 10k.

However, his overall ownership (in the sample) still makes him the second most-owned midfielder with 41.65%. His team-mate Sadio Mane features in the most selected team for both samples, as well as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcos Alonso, Andrew Robertson, Eden Hazard, Sergio Aguero and Aleksandar Mitrovic; all in-form players.

The overall teams have a greater concentration of Harry Kane ownership, as many managers started the season with him already, which is the same story with David de Gea.

The stats suggest that we might be about to witness a large swin in player ownerships, with Salah and Mendy especially shaking things up.

Selling them has allowed more managers to contemplate investment in the likes of Hazard, Kane and Trippier as well as cheaper options from Wolves, Bournemouth and Leicester.

This, in addition to European competitions taking more of an effect, may cause the very successful early season “template” to be broken up and create more interesting different alternatives.

As expected, the Wildcard chip is the only one that has significant usage this week with 4.6% of the top 10k managers activating it. This raises the percentage of Wildcards used to 55.3%.

If we compare the chip usage of the top 10k and a sample of 50,000 managers outside of that bracket, we see that the top players of FPL are much more lenient in using their Wildcards early. This is perhaps what helped them reach that high rank early on.

Only 29.7% of the overall sample had activated their wildcards so far, as compared to the 55.3% of the top 10k.

Chip Usage

However, the overall usage of the Triple Captain and Free Hit chips are actually higher than the top 10k percentages. This might be an indication on how little an advantage those chips give earlier in the season.

As a result of those Wildcard deployments, it has now come to pass that the majority of the top 10k have used one chip. 47.3% of managers in that bracket have used that many so far, while 37.1% are yet to deploy any chip.

Meanwhile, the majority of overall teams have not used chips yet. 55.3% of these managers still have their chips intact.

Captains

When it comes to captaincy for Gameweek 7, both samples opted for Aguero as the top choice. However, the top 10k had much more faith in him with a captaincy record so far this season of 83.35%, while the percentage for the overall sample was less than half of that: 40.35%.

Overall players still saw Salah (13.22%) and Kane (12.82%) as important captaincy choices this week.

    Bottom of last page

I can make these 4 transfers over the next two GWs for -4.

    Wilson, Salah, Lucas, Shaw out
    Kane, Mane, Fraser, Doherty in

    Yes or no?

No. You have missed the bus on Kane. It only made sense this week. Now he has one really good fixture left after Liverpool have an extremely good run of fixtures over the next four.

Just get Doherty in for Shaw. Lucas playing all matches so far. Not sure how long it will last but certainly much better than Fraser for the next fixture

74 points with Begovic and Wilson to go. Brought Kane in for a -4 hit for Lukaku and captained him. One of the best decisions I've made this season. Made quite a difference to my OR and ML position (just outside the top 15k now). Tempted to TC Kane next week v. Cardiff. Good move?

Maybe you're right. But with the overall standings so tight and likely to get tighter with everyone possibly having 'template' squads, stealing a march on the oppo now could be a good decision.

I asked a similar question on the previous page - Maximus gave a good answer, IMO:- "It’s the single easiest game spurs will have in the league all year coming off the back of them playing twice in the prior 7 days, including against Barca 3 days prior. It will be Kane’s 6th game in 21 days IF he does start. Kane has still looked very fatigued from the WC this season. So he may keep him on the bench & bring him on if needed."

On a WC. How does the following look

    Ederson. Rui
    Alonso. Trippier. Doherty. Wan. Tomkins
    Hazard. Maddison. Fraser. Mane. Richarlison
    Aguero. Mitrovic. Wilson

    Thought? Suggestions?

No way - I've got both. They dovetail quite nicely, so one provides a good captain option if the other has a hard game one week. Depends on whether you can afford them?

To be honest, Liverpool's fixtures aren't that great and Mane's form has dipped slightly. Shaqiri thrown into the mix complicates things further. I'd dump him, use the funds for a cheaper midfielder and then get Kane in. May take a couple of weeks or hits to get him in (which I'm sure you'd want to avoid) but my Kane move is only short term to take advantage of these fixtures v Cardiff and Hudd. Up to you pal.

A word of caution however - Pellegrini places more emphasis on attack than defence, so clean sheets may be few and far between. Maybe a full back in that instance?

Still not sure he really fits into Klopp’s system all that well. If Salah or Shaqiri had their shooting boots on yesterday, or Kepa was half an inch taller sturridge would not be in the headlines.

Can't see your WC team but I don't see much wrong with your current team. Do Zaha to Arnie and you have an awesome team. The biggest issue I see with your team is richarlison and zaha not performing currently. Why wildcard for that. They are good picks by the way. Robertson and Alonso are season keepers imo. Salah, Hazard, Bilva, Fraser
    Aguero, Mitrovic, Ings

Sub: 4, Bennett, Wan - Bissaka, Ward

    Was thinking :

    1. Salah and Ings to Maddison and Kane
    2. Ings to Jimenez

1st is a decent move if you dont plan to bring Salah anytime soon or have a WC, otherwise its a waste of FTs.

-4 and 49 points with 3 to go.
Once again I did my tfrs early (Wilson/Kane Mane/Maddison)
This time I was too quick for sure.
Who else here goes early for TV in the first half of the season.

Must admit I'm willing to take a few hits to boost TV early on - that extra 2-3m comes in very handy, I find, after January.

Was interested in the impact. Identical 469 TV 103.9 having sacrificed .3 with early tfrs.
Safe to say early tfrs gain a mil over the period.

I'd rather get rid of Mane and not Kun.
Do you have a wc, because kane in for 1-2 weeks and taking a hit doesn't sound feasible.

I'd rather do Silva and your 3rd striker to Arnautovic and a fodder and captain Hazard. Long term plan.

Wced this gw to get Kane in for two plum fixtures(and captain him against Cardiff)

    Patricio (Harner)
    Alonso Trippier Doherty (Duffy AWB)
    Hazard Richarlison Maddison Fraser (Hoijberg)
    Mitrovic Aguero Kane

Plan was to do Kane Fraser --> Arnautovic Salah after 2gws.( in time for salah clash against cardiff/hud)

Now am thinking about keeping Kane and sacrifice Aguero instead due to limited minutes. Thoughts? Get rid of Kane or Aguero?

OTT for keepers IMO. Comes in handy next week though.
Don't see the point in Tomkins. Will you ever double up?
Probably the most common midfield you can get.
Standard front 3 but Wilson with Fraser?
A very good side and you could use BB next week (smile)

Getting a steady flow of CS from Ederson. Rui was supposed to be bench fodder. Didnt expect the Wolves defence to perform so well.
Doubled up on CPL defence 3 times in 6 weeks and got 2 CS.

I agree with it being a standard midfield but any suggestions how I can be thinking ahead of the curve?

    Patricio
    Walker Trippier WB
    Hazard Sterling Ramsey Fraser
    Aguero Firmino Mitrovic

    Hamer TAA Hojberg Doherty
    2FT 0ITB

    - Kane is tempting... But wouldn't want to lose either Firmino/Aguero.
Firmino has hud and CAR after this and Kun loves Liverpool also has decent fixtures after that.

    - So the plan is to get Son in for Ramsey by doing another transfer somewhere else.Allows to keep both Firmino as well as Kun

    Thoughts??

Tough one - I think Mitro is the weakest option in your team, so probably downgrade him to Ings/Jimenez if you're dead set on getting Son in
