Captains

Vote in the Captain Poll for Gameweek 11

Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) and Eden Hazard (£11.3m) are likely to be the pair vying for domination of the Gameweek 11 captaincy.

Both players have home fixtures against favourable opposition this weekend and have been much more impressive in front of their own fans this season.

Aguero has delivered attacking returns in every match at the Etihad Stadium in 2018/19, averaging a total of 9.4 points per game.

Meanwhile, Southampton will arrive having conceded 1.4 goals per away match this season. Only three teams have allowed more penalty box shots since Gameweek 7 too.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.3m) may even get a look-in this week given that he has six assists already this term and Southampton are without a league goal in five matches.

With Riyad Mahrez (£8.6) having recorded three double-figure hauls in the last five Gameweeks, he may be starting to emerge as a differential option although there are plenty of potentially viable options in the Man City midfield.

As Liverpool travel to in-form Arsenal, interest in Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) and Sadio Mané (£9.7m) may be restricted.

Instead, Hazard looks like the most likely to compete with Aguero if he can regain full fitness.

The Chelsea man has registered either a goal or an assist in all but one of his home matches this season, for an average of 9.2 points per game at Stamford Bridge. The only one he blanked in was the Gameweek 9 visit of Manchester United.

Next opponents Crystal Palace are without a clean sheet since Gameweek 6 and have conceded seven times in four matches since then (1.75 per game).

Given Brighton’s form away from home, some managers may consider either Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) or Richarlison (£6.8m) as alternative captain candidates in Gameweek 11.

West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) may also be viewed by some as a differential as he prepares to face Burnley. No side has allowed more shots than the Clarets this season.

Fulham and their hapless defence are unlikely to influence the captaincy discussion as they travel to face Huddersfield Town, the Premier League’s lowest scorers.

    Pat
    Mendy Robby Alonso
    Hazard Mane Richarlison Fraser
    Aguero Auba Deeney
    ...Hamer Gunnarsson AWB Bennett

    A) Better bench and balance: Pat + AWB -> Fabianski + Lascelles (Bench Deeney/Lascelles/Fraser)
    B) Get Arnautovic for Deeney, by downgrading Fraser->Deloufeu/Paterson or Robby->Laporte
    C) Get Salah (C) in for Richarlison from next gw to double up with Mane, by downgrading Aguero->Arnoutovic and Deeney->Success

For those who missed it last night.

    Last Man Standing GW10 🏆 (2620 teams)

    Safety score = 51
    Top score = 107

Congrats to all the survivors. 🙂

Sorry for my embarrassing exchange on the last article - turned out the reason I couldn't see LMS anymore in my leagues was because I hadn't notice the 8pt hit in GW7 that pushed me just below the cutoff!

Moral of the story: always double check the data and .... don't take hits unless you are convinced they will pay off (that week I made 3 transfers, lost 8 pts, got booted out of LMS and had a GW rank of 3.3m!)!

Shame really as I was well clear every other week!

Lads, I'd really appreciate some help. Can you share your thoughts about my team as it is now?

I've got 2 free transfers, 0.6 in the bank, and an intact wildcard.

    Fabianski / Foster

    Alonso / Robertson / Doherty / Duffy / Wan-Bissaka

    Salah / Hazard / Maddison / Richarlison / Fraser

    Agüero / Arnautovic / Kamara

I'd love to have Mendy, or a third striker, but at the same time I don't really fancy giving up on any of my current players. What would you do?

I'll go with AWB > Balbuena for now. I would not be able to do that and I'm not really that desperate anyway.

Besides, I'm glad to know you think it looks great. I'll go with this team + Balb for now. Appreciate it, mate!

You could easily sit tight mate. Maybe Kamara to Success if you need to use a transfer? Or Fraser to Barkley if you're feeling bold. I wouldn't change too much though, its a good team.

no worries. Might be wise to sit tight on city def and see what happens with Mendy. He was dreadful last night. If he's dropped at the weekend and you still want city def cover in the future, get Laporte.

Really tough one. 65 mins of Aguero against a ropey Southampton defence or 90mins from Hazard against a Palace team who are starting to look well-drilled again.

    1. Pierce34
      • 8 Years

Aguero normally gets more chances in 65 minutes than most players get in 90. (apart from against Liverpool and Tottenham, who are a bit better than Southampton of course!)

Xhaka deputising at LB in an already shaky Arsenal defence should be the things of dreams for Salah owners. Hmm.

Xhaka playing LB is pain twofold for Arsenal - 1, he's not good there, and 2, it disrupts the midfield partnership of Xhaka Torreira which has been absolutely dominating. This means imo that Liverpool will overrun them. Still capping Aguero out of tradition than Salah though.

It will probably be Elneny and not Guendouzi who steps in this time for Xhaka but both are ropey defensively.

I'm an Arsenal fan so the thought of captaining Salah pains me, and I probably won't, but I can see Liverpool scoring a bunch.

City vs Liverpool also brought goals before the last one.

Klopp is looking forward to win the league. Hence, more careful.
Arsenal is conceding a lot of shots, but still they can beat anyone on their day.

If passed fit, Hazard (c) this week. If not then Agüero but I'd be tempted by a fit Arnautovic vs Burnley. Vardy could also be a shout but hard to gauge that after the unfortunate event last weekend.

Thoughts on what to do with this team? 2 FTs and 0.3 ITB.

          Fabianski - Foster
          Alonso - Mendy - Doherty - TAA - AWB
          Salah - Hazard - Richarlison - Maddison - Hughes
          Aguero - Wilson - Ings

          Thanks guys!

Captained Mane this week which paid off. Just concerned how long he can keep matching Salah's output...

          Thoughts on a -8 for Mane / Fraser / Laca > Salah / Barkley / Wilson?

          Ederson
          Mendy / Robbo / Alonso
          Hazard / Mane / Maddison / Fraser
          Aguero / Laca / Ings

          Hamer / Bennett / WB / Billing

Mane doesn't need to match Salah's output... when he is matching that, he is way overperforming.. keep.

Do teams normally get worse defensive records during the busy Christmas period? I've been playing 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 and my defence has comfortably outperformed my attack. City, chelsea and liverpool all keeping clean sheets for fun.

However in the coming weeks should i be looking to pivot to a 3-4-3 and break up the holy trinity? Doesn't seem to be any way to afford Hazard, Sterling/Aguero, Salah and 3 premium defenders unless i take a lot of hits.

I'd be interested to know this too. I seem to remember that typically teams tighten up in the second half of the season but I don't know if they are particularly leaky over Christmas. I've just moved to 4 at back as find it is the only way I can afford the premium players and still keep a decent balance.

I seem to remember a tightening up late on, like after GW 30, but Christmas being leaky. The beginning of a session tends to have more clean sheets.

Had a stab at doing a stats table - Attacking defenders. (Not sure if there's etiquette on posting tables in comments - will remove if so?)

Min requirement = 30 passes received in the final third over the last four gameweeks - seems to have caught all the main players & gives all stats. Any feedback welcome.

Similar to what I focus on, except passes rather than passes received. Not sure that makes much difference though.

Not sure how valid for defenders, but still found it useful early on.

This is how I look at things: https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/22034/

I filter out many players with some key indices, so I only get to look at the top performers. One of my most favorite indicator is Shots on Target, because in general many people shoot but blindly.

Nice - fair enough; I did try that but I wanted people like Mendy & Robertson in the table to compare them statistically on stuff like baseline BPS with other defenders, and those two aren't big shooters.

WC draft, am i onto something?

              4.5 set and forget (Hamer)
Robertson / Alonso / Mendy (Dunk, Bennet)
              Salah / Hazard / B. Silva / Kenedy / Murphy
              Arnautovic / Aguero (Success)

              Strong:
Will rotate Kenedy, Murphy and Success based on fixtures h/a form.
              Gives me room to downgrade/upgrade
Nailed on players everywhere (except Hamer. Aguero and B.Silva of sorts. Anything can happen with Murphy, Kenedy and Success).

              Weak:
Kenedy, Murphy and Success -> Need to be very creative to be able to keep the core of my team if i want more expensive players in their slots.

Hello everyone, a little bit of help much appreciated. I have 2 FT and £0.7M ITB.

Not really sure of what to do as don't really want to burn a transfer and not sold into getting any Bournemouth players or rotation risks Barkley and Martial

              Team:
              Patricio / Hamer
              Doherty / Mendy / Luiz / Robertson / AWB
              Salah / Hazard / Richarlison / Schurrle / Obiang
              Aguero / Arnautovic / Jimenez

              A) Patricio -> Fabianski (set and forget)
              B) Hamer -> Fabianski (rotate Patricio & Fabianski afterwards)
              C) Patricio + Hamer -> Ryan + Button
              D) Obiang -> Diangana / Stephens / Any other fodder
              E) Obiang -> Murphy / Kenedy (play 3-5-2 next 2 with Jimenez tough fixtures)
              F) Schurrle -> Barkley (only if Hazard not fit?) / Pereyra
              G) Obiang + Jimenez -> Barkley (only if Hazard not fit?) + Success
              H) Jimenez -> Success
              I) Jimenez + Luiz -> Success + Alonso

Any other moves you would suggest?

              Thanks in advance.

Don't see the point in selling a 4.0 nailed on defender for someone slightly more expensive.

I also don't like the 4.5 rotating keepers (especially now that you'll be playing Fabianski practically all the time) but that's just me. As for Knockaert, never liked him as an option. I don't think I have concrete suggestions though, other than Barkley will probably be as much of a trap as Knockaert has been.

Is Aguero actually out of form? Have you seen anything to suggest that, because stats suggest returns are imminent. (not to mention that he's been very consistent in scoring FPL points vs. bad teams)

Returns imminent means he’s missing chances. Watch him play and you’ll see stats are not everything but they are useful along with seeing it

That's what I mean - if you're watching the matches and seeing him off-colour that's fair enough. Was just checking that you're not going by the more typical FPL "he didn't return recently so he must be out of form".

Also I don't know - does not playing well vs. Spurs and Liverpool count as 'out of form'? He's been very consistent vs. the bad sides, and extremely unlucky not to get a brace or hat-trick vs. Burnley. (that wasn't a matter of form in my opinion)
