Meet the Manager #8 – Kenneth Tang

Kenneth Tang’s Fantasy Premier League career history is nothing short of breathtaking.

A third of his 12 season finishes have been within the top 500 and a quarter within the top 200.

In total he has nine top 10,000 finishes and impressively almost broke into the top 100 during his first ever campaign, back in 2006/7.

In our latest Meet the Manager interview Kenneth reveals how close attention to the fixtures of the top six sides each year has been crucial to his success.

Wildcard timing is also vital, with his first of this season still to be played. Using his big-six fixture strategy he also explains why Gameweek 16 looks to be the optimum time to deploy this chip and ensure he marches up the overall rankings, perhaps even jettisoning his premium defence along the way.

As a veteran of FPL he explains how the advent of the second Wildcard saw the game change and forced him to tweak his strategy and planning.

The value of the eye test is also key for Kenneth. From his Hong Kong base he is able to regularly spend Saturday and Sunday nights watching matches, although with a new born baby this has not been as regular as previous campaigns.

The chat with Kenneth is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

I've just been alerted to the fact that the official Fulham Tw**ter account yesterday were compelled to apologise for the ineptitude of their side. I mean, talk about dire straits. To comfortably lose to both Huddersfield and Cardiff, themselves truly dreadful sides, you can almost understand why they did.

Haha, may god have mercy on them.
Fulham aren't big enough for him to come out of retirement though

    Which would you prefer?:

    A) Alonso, Salah, Mahrez, Maddison
    B) 4,4m def, Mane, Sterling, Hazard

A is what I currently have but B is a possibility during the next few weeks

I like them both. If you already have A I wouldn't move mountains to get B. WC?

Which pair do you think will score more over Christmas period?

    A) Salah & Aguero

    B) Sterling & Kane

    1. V-2 Schneiderlin

      A
though I think Sterling and Aguero might do best of all

I think Kane’s security of mins and the fixtures just edge it over Aguero.

Sterling should be able to prove more value than Salah.

Aguero may get more regular minutes with no Champions league over Xmas though

Aguero hasn't really been playing the Champions League game. No CL and more Prem games should mean less minutes for Kun and the occasional start for Jesus.

I'm happy with my team for the moment, but with a WC still in my back pocket, 2 FT's and only 0.2 in the bank, not sure what moves to make this week:

    Ederson
    Alonso - Mendy - TAA
    Salah - Mane - Rich - Fraser
    Aguero - Arnie - Murray

    Hamer - Bennett - AWB - Stephens

    - Fraser has tough fixtures coming up but Newcastle this week
    - TAA a rotation risk but still good value and against Fulham
    - Quite happy with all other starters for now

Any useful moves you see here?

Maybe use the 0.2 to improve your bench (Stephens to Diangana, for example?) or downgrade Ederson with a plan to upgrade, say, TAA in the future?

    Fab Pat
    RAM Doherty AWB
    Salah Mane Fraser Lucas Stephens
    Aguero Wilson Ings

2 FT, 1.2m ITB. WC available.

Hard times here with so many FTs and no absolute trash on my team. Ings has finally couple of potential fixtures upcoming (WAT, ful) but still considering getting Arnie straight in. I would need additional 0.4 which I would have by downgrading Patricio to 4.0.

Would you do Ings, Pat -> Arnie & 4.0 GK for free or save transfers for other problem areas? Bournemouth's form is undeniable and Lucas might just bought time for game against CRY.

      Current playing XI

      Fab (hud)
Alonso (EVE), Rob (FUL), Mendy (MUN)
Salah (FUL, C), Mane (FUL), Lucas (cry), Fraser (new)
Aguero (MUN), Wilson (new), Ings (WAT)

He’s clearly a great manager, but I’m not sure I agree with him on Liverpool having such bad fixtures.

Man Utd and Arsenal both at home shouldn’t be too bad. The only awful one in the next 10+ is City away IMO.

I don't understand this argument. What's wrong with having double Wolves? Surely this gives you more variance in weekly scores, but that's not something managers care about.

I understand this argument when applied to case in which you have 2-3 outfield players from the same team. It might be hard to bench them all once a tough fixture arises. But in case of a GK and a defender? They are irrelevant to each other.

Is Iwobi worth a punt? Came on and did well with play and assist. Mkhi on the other hand was anonymous as he has always been. Can see him starting at least next few. Do it or still a big rotation risk?

The most he's started in a row this year is 3 (and he didn't get any returns in any of them) so I don't see how he's not a big rotation risk. Great player for Arsenal to have off the bench though.

Thoughts on TC Salah this weekend.

I'm thinking the double GW's are better suited for Bench Boost and Blank GW for free hit. Given rotation issues in DGW's, is it better to pick a single gameweek but a very strong fixture for the TC chip?

I'm looking back to GW 2 and I nearly TC'd Kun in that game, wish I did now.

Looking at GW 34 & 37 fixtures now (I know they are subject to change) but there are some very tricky fixtures there. Chelsea v Liv GW 34 for instance so not the best fixture for Hazard or Salah, and I don't think Kun is ever TC material at the end of the season as Jesus will surely get the games once title is won?

Are there any players you'd only feel comfortable TC'ing? Would those players even have the fixtures left at the end of the season to perform?

How does it work with these weeks? I assume 34 & 37 stays the same if same schedule as last year, and a FA Cup weekend fixture would be added onto those weeks?

Always a DGW for me. Correct me if I'm wrong but we don't know for sure that they will fall in GWs 34 & 37. Even if they do I see a lot of good fixtures in those weeks. I wouldn't assume that City will have the title won by then and even if they have the race for top 4 will probably be alive.

DGWs are in GW32 and GW35 this season. BGWs are in GW31 and GW33. You will need to FH or WC in GW32 to deal with the turnover of games, ensuring that you can only use either TC or BB in the GWs we know will be DGWs. That means you need to look at ways to use TC in SGWs.

Tempted to go for it after reading this. Need to be sure he is going to start though.
Also wouldn't be surprised if a random double gameweek emerges e.g. with Spurs stadium problems.

I know most will say wait for double game week but looks a great fixture to me for it, would love to see him rested tonight or if he does play to have a couple of nice finishes to boost confidence. The major risk is he gets rested of only plays 60 minutes but it’s right before the international break so don’t think there is any need to rest him.

        Thanks for the input.

Just in my view, rotation could be rife with Liverpool - Shaqiri/Sturridge will surely get one game out of two when there are only a few days rest in between.

The flip side of this is that Salah might not get 90 against Fulham either.. will probably leave it this time.

Keep TAA this week or transfer for Robbo for free?
Have Richarlison first on the bench , so not so bad if he doesnt start. And really would like to have 2FT when IB starts.

Save. TAA might start and even if he doesn't you have Richie and 2FT ovee break.
Even I am keeping TAA for now.

Maddison owners - keeping for Burnley or in for the long haul? I might sell for Anderson in two weeks time.

Keeping for Burnley then reassessing. He seems a bit of a boring pick, the assisters assister.

The algorithm is strong this year.

      Stop new teams after Gw3.

      Hi all

Just in to mention our new pod is out: http://whogottheassist.com/pod-53-the-midfield-quad-feat-fpl-racoon-nation/

This week, we're joined from Canada by FPL Racoon Nation (Rishi) to talk the star midfield quad of Sterling, Salah Mane and Hazard and how we fit them into our FPL sides.

We then look at the features - Market Forces, zombies and All England team - before answering some questions.

      Main league: 516-441

Next pod the second week in IB (Tom in HK) but we'll be back with a livecast on w/c 19th Nov for a Talisman update 🙂
