How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Raheem Sterling

As Fantasy Premier League managers consider breaking up the template of premium options ahead of upcoming fixture swings, we continue our latest series.

We are comparing some of the more expensive options on offer against their best-ever FPL scores to see whether they are justifying their price.

After studying Harry Kane (£12.4m) earlier this week, we now move on to Manchester City midfielder Raheem Sterling (£11.2m).

Sterling’s best-ever FPL season was recorded in the 2017/18 campaign when he scored 18 goals and assisted 17 others.

Those figures combined for a total score of 229 points, 19 of which were registered through bonus.

So far in 2018/19, Sterling has amassed 79 points at an average of 6.58 per Gameweek. If he continues at his current rate he would record a total score of 250 points this season, which would be best of his FPL career thus far.

        Alonso has 3 xA and 7 assists. We have to look to the future not the past.

        You can't compare prices across positions. A 4.5m defender is much better than a 4.5m midfielder.

      It's a wait and see for me. Sane was benched in the CL last week when Mendy wasn't in the squad, so I don't think it's as simple as Sane plays when Mendy doesn't.

      surely a more appealing one, still a bit uncomfortable with the sterling, mahrez and sane into 3 positions situation and for 9.2mil you want assurances. i really like that not many people have the opening to do it though, if you can do it for free why not have a punt on whm, BOU and wat. 8.4ppg in his 5 starts this season, yet to blank. massively interesting option

    Anyone remember the Azpilicueta/Jones/Otamendi backline of last season. Guaranteed 9 points per clean sheet. So strange how they aren't even remotely options anymore

      Yeah it's weird how some defensive options just collapse. Coleman, Alderweireld, Bertrand, Clyne etc all were the best options in a season.

      i'm bringing in Digne for Mendy.
      Everton rotate nicely with quite a few sides defensively and "offensively" allowing flexible formations and extra funds going to enable a decent upgrade to 4th mid or 3rd striker.
      Also think Digne looks a good player who could bring some attacking returns.

      On Mendy + Walker at the mo, but am looking at Mendy to Digne this week, then Walker -> Stones in 15 to fund Kane in.

      Does really well in BPS - not as much goal threat as I'd like but 5.3 feels like a good price for a City def. Just got to make sure you've a decent bench defender in case of the no show.

    I was just watching the highlights of Arsenal v Fulham and it seems as though Wolves played a new system with 4 atb. Doherty not very attacking, in fact I don't think they mentioned his name once it was that bad. It is only highlights though. Did anyone see the whole game?
    I sort of assumed I'd be doing Mendy to Doherty but I've gone right off that now.

        looking at the line ups it would appear you are right. completely normal for Doherty to have been pegged back a bit given they went ahead pretty early and spent the rest of the game defending / playing on the counter!

      potentially a week early, but wouldn't say stupid at all. may be pure coincidence and tiny sample but ozil has performed very well after international breaks this season. you'd always back sterling in any given game over him though (3 assists at whm last season).
