How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Raheem Sterling

As Fantasy Premier League managers consider breaking up the template of premium options ahead of upcoming fixture swings, we continue our latest series.

We are comparing some of the more expensive options on offer against their best-ever FPL scores to see whether they are justifying their price.

After studying Harry Kane (£12.4m) earlier this week, we now move on to Manchester City midfielder Raheem Sterling (£11.2m).

Sterling’s best-ever FPL season was recorded in the 2017/18 campaign when he scored 18 goals and assisted 17 others.

Those figures combined for a total score of 229 points, 19 of which were registered through bonus.

So far in 2018/19, Sterling has amassed 79 points at an average of 6.58 per Gameweek. If he continues at his current rate he would record a total score of 250 points this season, which would be best of his FPL career thus far.

    Hooray!!!

Video assistant referees will be used in the Premier League next season after being voted in by clubs at a meeting on Thursday.

Very interesting. I wonder how that will affect the pricing of players. There may be more penalties and this will put a new premium on penalty takers if so.

Good defensive cover in 3-4-3 also without playing Mendy’s replacement this week.

So looking at NEXT week’s fixtures, would you now replace Mendy with a defender from

    A) Chelsea (have Alonso)
    B) Liverpool
    C) City

Curious as to everyone's best gameweek rank so far and what propelled them there?

Mine was 39,254 in GW1. Everyone in my team hauled at least a goal, assist or clean sheet. Was mental. Had Rich, Shaw and Fraser from the start too.

A fair amount of interest in Digne today, which is fair enough.
But is there anyone going for Keane (4.9) who has more points, goals, assists and bonus, or Mina (5.3?) with his obvious threat from set pieces?

I wondered if anyone in the know with Everton could clarify the best option?

    1. nisag17
      • 14 Years
      5 years, 5 months ago

Goal threat from set pieces are a bit of a lottery in my opinion and can't rely on that. If there is a full back available on set piece duties and great bonus potential I would find it hard to go for a central defender.

I think fullbacks always seem sexier than centre halves as they are better to watch bombing forward. The CH's only usually lumber up for the dead ball stuff...

Looking at various replacements for Mendy and Maddison (like many) and it is basically a cheaper defender (e.g. Digne) who allows me to get Dilva or Martial, or Laporte with Richarlison, Bilva or Siggy (if fit).

I'll be priced out of the Laporte option (other than with Rich) in the next few days.

    A) Wait anyway
    B) Risk an early move - Laporte option is better

    1. SlowStart

      What about Stones?

Pretty much going to give you exactly what Laporte will but he’s only £5.3 at the moment.

I have the same Mendy issues as you, but I want Alonso as well with one of my 2 FT so I don’t have enough to do Mendy and Trippier to Laporte and Alonso.

But I do have enough to do it for Stones and Alonso.

I just think 0.6m extra for Laporte is worth it.

My current squad. Feels like I need to upgrade a couple spots (and not just the fodder): Bournemouth fixtures turn for a few weeks, more City cover, replace Salah? This team has done quite well for me, so I'm a bit torn. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Foster, Fab
    Doherty, Alonso, Robbo, AWB, Bednarek
    Salah, Hazard, Richarlison, Fraser, Gunnarsson

This is how it has gone for me with Mendy...

Start of season thought bet he will be good but wanna see if he plays regularly first few games before I get him, Think first 2 games he got 15 & 8 - 3 assists in those 2 games...

Then I got him - He conceded in both games he played in...

Then he went missing for 3 weeks and I had him just rotting for 2 of those 3 and got rid on last week he was out...

Comes back and gets a 5,10 & 6 - 3 clean sheets so I think need to get him back in...

2 home games - concedes in both, 2 points in both

    Now injured again

    Is Stones nailed?

Looking back it looks like he's played almost every minute of the last 5 games, taking Otamendi's place. Was that becasue Otamendi got injured and might get his place back, or because Stones wasn't fit before, or something else? Forgive my ignorance not knowing

In the last 5 games he got 3BPS while Laporte at £0.6m more got 0 BPS.

Laporte I understand won't be troubled during International week, but Stones is expected to play once or twice

    Thoughts on Stones please?

Looking ahead to a VAR FPL next season, does anyone think FPL should shake up the points so we don’t all have a team of pen takers ?

Similar to the fifa fantasy .....points for winning a pen and for scoring then the usual negative for missing ?

    Maybe 2 3 and -2 ?

Certainly goalkeepers should get less for a save

It'd probably make more sense to adjust the pricing of penalty takers rather than change the scoring system.

Fair point! I like the thought of pen winning points! Leaves you with a decision like Zaha or Mili for example

It already counts as an assist if the penalty is scored, so the upside is probably similar in either case. I suppose getting 2 points for winning a pen is fairer than getting 3 points only if the penalty is converted, though.

With Keane and Mina in about the box I predict goal from set peices. Clean sheets are not guaranteed no
