Scoutcast Episode 278 – Greatness

Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Mohamed Salah certainly provided a timely reminder that he is already one of Fantasy Football’s all-time greats on Saturday, with a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth.

But even that impressive display is seemingly not enough to convince all of the Scoutcast crew that the Liverpool attacker should be an essential part of their festive lineups.

Joining Joe, David and Luke in this week’s episode is Adam Hopcroft, who has featured on our Meet the Manager series and is among those still looking to ditch the Egyptian.

During a “Salexit” discussion in our community questions section, Adam reveals that there may well be better premium assets who are more deserving of attention.

In contrast, Joe and David are still backing the Reds’ marksman following his recent goal glut, which also includes a midweek strike against Napoli in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Luke is resolutely continuing his no-Salah policy, even though it cost him dear last time out.

Salah unsurprisingly dominates the crew’s look back at Gameweek 16, including a special instalment of Rough with the Smooth, dedicated to those who jettisoned the Liverpool man before his weekend heroics.

The crew also provide an update on the latest whipping boys and the potential captain candidates who look set to exploit their frailties over Christmas.

Elsewhere, our community questions section takes in the emerging battle between Fantasy Premier League’s old guard of veterans and the new, social-media-and-price-prediction-site-savvy managers on the scene.

The crew round off with a look at the best differentials and clean sheet prospects in Gameweek 17, as well as revealing their transfer and captaincy plans.

Son 35 vs Anderson 26 over the past 4 games.

Unfair to go back further as Son's only started the past 4 matches.

I think that, as usual, Emery will deliberately pick a weak/bizarre starting XI in order to be hailed as a 'genius' when his half-time substitutions work.

If only we could second guess Pep

      Aguero could be back

The boss says Aguero may be back in time to face Everton on Saturday, but admits Silva could be out for “a few weeks”.

"Maybe he [Aguero] has a chance for the weekend."

There is no point trying to guess what Pep will do, it will just drive people crazy if they keep trying to get into Pep's mind. I wouldn't be surprised if he came on here just to have a laugh at all the confusion he causes.

Who are United's starting full backs when all fit?

    L: Shaw? Young?

Just after some advice please. I have 1 ft & 3.4itb & here's my team before trades:

    Fabianski
    Alonso, Robertson, Doherty
    Sterling (c), Sane, Son, Richarlison
    Auba (vc), Wilson, Jimenez

    Patricio, AWB, Digne, Billing

    Which option do you like:
    (a) Billing out - F. Anderson in (bench Richarlison) or
    (b) Sterling out - Salah in or
    (c) Sane out - Hazard in

I'm including Sterling & Sane as sell options due to both playing a full game. Son I'm more comfortable about as he came off early so he's not a sell option.

    Thoughts & thanks.

Really not sure what moves to make this week, mainly scared of no Spurs assets.

    A) Rich + TAA > Son + Femenia (-4) - Would go for this if there wasn't a chance of Son rotation.

    C) Rich > Anderson

To certain extent, yes. Midfielder's CS point + possible shared attacking returns. If one can't afford both, I would take Alonso, as Chelsea's defense probably outscores everyone in next 8 or so weeks.

No. Needs to be up towards 7 really unless you are captaining them sometimes. Assuming you want a really high finish that is.

So we should be avoiding this price bracket entirely then?

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years
          5 years, 6 months ago

Not necessarily. A player might be able to manage that over a specific run of 6-8 weeks when the fixtures particularly favour or they are in a purple patch of form. Or you might have one or two games in a spell when you'd captain them. In addition, you might choose to sacrifice a bit of value for predictability in some cases, you do have 100m+ to spend and won't be able to extract peak value from every 1m of it.

But the underlying calculation is that it is very hard for a 9.5m player to justify value long-term without captaincy. Not impossible but not common. 9-10m is certainly a price range to be careful about anyway.

Sané is a good example. Holding him all season is unlikely to pay off but whilst Mendy is injured he is likely to miss few games if any and he's certainly capable of 7PPG with good fixtures (as City have) and low rotation risk. If ever there is a time to have him it would appear to be now.

              • 9 Years
              5 years, 6 months ago

Sure, but the only average that counts really is what they get while they are in your team. We keep very few players for a whole season.

Sane has averaged closer to 7 since mid September, so not sure what the original poster was asking...

Sané’s tiny cameos hurt his ppg.

      Yes - 230 points

Kane got 210 and a 12,5 for context

That's no context. You don't own Kane unless you intend to use him quite regularly as captain. Or at least you'd be ill-advised to do so. But 9.5m players are often not those you'd choose as captains so you have to look at vanilla PPG per 1m.

    1) Alonso, Bilva, Rondón
    2) DLuiz, Son, Jiménez

Already in: Robbo, Doherty, Sterling, Anderson, Hazard, Kane, Wilson
In both of the scenarios, Fraser would have to go.

I had a rush of blood to the (wrong) head and thought Kane, Auba, Laca would smash it, when instead Chicharito, Son and Anderson did. So, I've corrected the mistake and hanging my head sheepishly.
