Captains

Captain Sensible – Variety of options on offer in Gameweek 18

There is such a wide range of options for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy in Gameweek 18.

Not only do Manchester City have a favourable fixture against Crystal Palace, Arsenal host Burnley and Spurs travel to Everton.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard have been offering some impressive individual statistics.

We’ve compared the most popular options in our poll against the player, team and opposition statistics to try and come up with the best option this weekend.

Captain Poll

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) is set to be the poll winner for Gameweek 18 ahead of Crystal Palace’s visit to the Etihad Stadium, with 27% of the vote. The Manchester City midfielder’s popularity probably stems from the fact that he is fairly likely to start this weekend after missing out on the last two line-ups, his minutes managed by Pep Guardiola against Everton and Leicester. In Sterling’s last six Premier League starts he has five goals and five assists, making him a strong candidate for Gameweek 18.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.5m) comes in with just under 19% backing this weekend and is the closest challenger to a poll leader for some weeks. The Arsenal man has been unfortunate not to find the net more often recently, now without a goal since his Gameweek 14 brace against Tottenham. However, a home match against an out-of-form Burnley could be the tonic Aubameyang and his colleagues need after their defeat at Southampton, and his owners seem confident he will deliver.

Leroy Sané (£9.7m) has been backed as an alternative Manchester City option this week, with the German international coming in at third place in the poll. 12% of voters are planning on giving him the captaincy, presumably because of his slightly greater chance of starting the match than Sterling. Sané has been named in the Manchester City line-up in six of the last seven Gameweeks and has considerably less competition for his place while Benjamin Mendy is injured.

Hot on Sané’s tails in the vote is Chelsea man Eden Hazard (£11.0m), backed by 11% at the time of writing. He has been remarkably consistent recently, with a goal and five assists in his last four outings for the Blues. With Leicester City the next to visit Stamford Bridge, Hazard owners will be confident of further returns in Gameweek 18, with a number of them looking to captain him.

Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) leads the chasing pack this weekend, with just under 8% believing he is the ideal captain candidate ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Wolves on Friday night. He is just ahead of Harry Kane (£12.6m) who will travel to Everton on Sunday afternoon, backed by 6% of the poll voters.

Another big name far down the list of popularity is Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) who is fit again and had some minutes in the League Cup midweek. 3.7% believe he is the best option for Gameweek 18, keeping him just ahead of the most popular defender: Matt Doherty (£5.2m). The Wolves man has the support of 1.7% of our voters.

    GTG?

    Fabianski
    Laporte D.Luiz Kolasinac
    Sane (VC) F.Anderson Richarlison Moura
    Kane Auba (C) Wilson

    Subs: Yedlin, Lerma, AWB

2 big decisions are probably captain Auba or Sane and whether to start Yedlin over one of the Richarlison or Moura?

      TV is over hyped.
      Bin him if you want.
Think about it as .4 M extra earned on him.
He has difficult fixtures in the future & there are plethora of options in midfield now

Not this week surely? Snoddy's 2 goals have been absolute screamers, not sold on him tbh, doesn't look sustainable.

This is not true. Only Hazard has created as many chances as Snodgrass over the last four and he has great fixtures.

No top-flight defender has made more key passes than Digne (34), while his hunger to take possession has also caught the eye. He had the most touches of the ball of any Everton player this term.

Do you watch football games or you only look at stats? Just watch some Everton games and you will understand why!. I watch a lot of football and I pick my team based on the way the players behave on the field not on some stats.

I have been on this site all week, saying to myself I won't be swayed by bandwagons.
What do I do? The longest I HAVE EVER kept a transfer and now i do this:
Kane>Rashford because Kaku given 2 weeks off
Son>hazard because of rotation hype with Kane.
At least the 3.6 in the bank can get me Salah next week if needed.
If Martial plays he will go to the top of my watchlist.

Auba’s stats look great and he’s a great captaincy pick this week (although I do have Sterling). Plus Spurs Xmas fixture congestion really worries me.

OGS comments seem to point towards Pogba being given more freedom. Could be essential if they get the attacking football going as the players are simply good enough to roll over lots of their opponents.

"I want to play attacking football and give the players freedom to play"
"Pogba is a great guy and a great player, hes one of the players I want to get the best out of"

since you have anderson i would not rush to get snodgrass (especially since west ham only have 4 more good fixtures and then will be time for ditching them) so i would go with option A, rashford will be getting good gametime with lukaku out and hazard imo is best season keeper - best player in top4 team, rarely blanks, solid captain options for plenty weeks, and as seen vs city - fixtureproof.

Probably 2, not sold on double MUN attack right now though. I'd downgrade one of Martial or Rash and upgrade the defense.

Why? Lost faith in Alonso, Delph guaranteed until Mendy is back and gives me a 5.3m route into City's defence and Hazard is a much better option that Siggy

Fair way to look at it but how is Laporte to Delph a downgrade? It is a sideways move, granted, but not a downgrade. Neither will get attacking returns and both get CS bonuses but one is 0.7 cheaper than the other

My original plan was Kolasinac & Success to Lovren & Ings, but then I remembered it's Danny Ings so I hesitated for a couple of days and his price went up and now I'm locked out of that. :/

I'm not sure that these historical highs against specific opponents have any direct relevance - Everton's defence is better this year, I have Kane but I'd settle for any assist or better, Don't expect miracles.

Fair enough. Conceded to Newcastle & Watford at home in that time, would think Spurs could test their goal out as well. I’m hoping for a 2-2 draw with Kane at the double =)
