No shocks from the team news at Wembley as Pogba starts

Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester United in the second of two Premier League matches to be contested on Sunday. Kick-off at Wembley is at 16:30 GMT.

Both sides have made two changes to their starting XIs from Gameweek 21.

Ben Davies and the fit-again Jan Vertonghen replace Danny Rose and Davinson Sanchez for the hosts, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recalls Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young in place of Juan Mata and Antonio Valencia.

Paul Pogba, as expected, is fit to start after recovering from the knock he picked up in the victory over Newcastle United.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial join Lingard in a front three for the Red Devils, who name the same team that lined up against Cardiff City in Solskjaer’s very first match in charge.

Romelu Lukaku is among the substitutes but Alexis Sanchez misses out through injury.

Son Heung-min starts for Spurs for the final time before he departs for the Asian Cup.

Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane also line up for the Lilywhites in what appears to be a familiar-looking 4-4-2 diamond.

Lucas Moura misses out with a knee injury.

Spurs won this reverse fixture 3-0 back in August, with Kane registering a double-digit haul.

Kane has delivered an attacking return in each of his last ten Premier League starts, while Son has done likewise over his last eight starts.

Almost half of Pogba’s FPL points in 2018/19 (49 out of 100) have come in the last four Gameweeks, meanwhile.

Spurs XI (4-4-2 diamond): Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane.

Manchester United XI (4-3-3): De Gea, Young, Jones, Lindelof, Shaw, Matic, Herrera, Pogba, Lingard, Martial, Rashford.

Salah, Firmino and Sterling on wildcard. Ditching Hazard, and getting Alli also

not that bad tbh, but I didnt have Salah, and my defence was a shambles. Plus players like Siggy I no longer want, it wasnt terrible and it has scored high recently but honestly not having or being able to captian Salah has been damaging, captain choices last few weeks have been crap I could only put it on Auba or Hazard

Probably City assets will score more although the downside is the rotation and distribution of points ...

Watch him go 10 games without scoring. One of the most frustrating players to own. Salah is enough.

Okay I'm leaving for now, too many options to choose from.

Kane confirmed out and it's a straight swap for Salah, meaning Auba and Alonso survive another GW at least.

Otherwise would be Salah TAA fodder in for Billing Alonso Auba.

Dat is all. Thoughts appreciated. See y'all in a bit.

Thinking about it. If there are a couple of favourable results midweek in the FA Cup replays then a lot of PL teams could be knocked out by the end of Round 4. That reduces the options in a DGW and makes it less favourable. Therefore an early WC could be of benefit.

Poch's lack of ruthlessness shows in his post match comments. Who really wants to listen to him taking pride in how many saves DDG made. He needs to get a bit grumpy with his team so that they aren't just get content with good performances going forward. They got complacent against Wolves and yet they're allowed to take the 2nd half off against Cardiff after one good half. It's just a little too laid back of an attitude for winners.

    1. diesel001
      • 7 Years

Poch needs Levy to get the chequebook out and sign a top class central midfielder. Eriksen and Kane dropping deep destroys Spurs' attack.

      1. fedolefan
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

He won't do that even if Levy gets the chequebook out. He will always look for guys that add as a collective to the midfield as opposed to direct replacements. Moura, Sissoko, Lamela etc are all just that. Additions that strengthen a position in depth rather than quality. I have no idea what he's trying by getting Kane to drop deep. That should be something Alli does. I don't even understand Alli's role in the team.

Kane drops back to allow others forward, they dont know who to mark. It creates confusion in poorly organised defences. No?

But do they even need all that against poor defences. Doesn't work against the better teams and they've lost to City Pool United at "home" this year, Arsenal away too. Too many losses there. I don't know, I just have a hard team understanding their general setup. Too many people look to be doing too many things. Alli, Kane, Son all seem to have multiple responsibilities.

Can Spurs refuse to release Son to South Korea if Kane is out for 2/3 weeks ?

We'll have to wait and see. But they have already got away with not releasing him so far and so might be pushing it.

I'm betting that with a whole week to recover, Kane will start the next game and score.

If Kane is out is this the best use of my two free transfers:

Kane and Richarlison -> Rashford and Sterling

    Foster
    Robertson, Digne, Doherty
    Pogba, Richarlison, Salah, Hazard, Anderson
    Kane, Jimenez

    Speroni, Bednarek,Kamara, Peltier

    0.4 million in the bank
