Aguero on the bench as Sterling and Sane start on the flanks for City

Manchester City take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening in the final match of Gameweek 22, with kick-off at the Etihad at 20:00 GMT.

Sergio Aguero has recovered from the illness that forced him to miss the 7-0 and 9-0 wins over Rotherham United and Burton Albion respectively but the Argentinean striker is only named among the substitutes this evening, as Gabriel Jesus gets the nod to lead the line.

Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane will be flanking the Brazilian tonight, while City’s midfield three of Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Fernandinho remains unchanged from the victory over Liverpool – meaning Kevin De Bruyne has to be content with a place on the bench.

Danilo gets the nod at left-back despite Fabian Delph‘s return from a three-match ban.

Nuno Espirito Santo has made two changes from the strong starting XI that defeated Liverpool in the FA Cup last Monday, with Matt Doherty and Rui Patricio replacing Ruben Vinagre and John Ruddy.

Diogo Jota is once again paired with Raul Jimenez in attack, with Joao Moutinho being deployed as the “number ten” behind Wolves’ strike pair.

Leander Dendoncker gets only his second league start of the season in central midfield.

The reverse fixture of this match ended 1-1, with Aymeric Laporte‘s header cancelling out a controversial opening goal from Willy Boly back in August.

Aguero was the fifth-most-captained FPL asset of Gameweek 22, while four Wolves’ players – Doherty, Patricio, Jimenez and Ryan Bennett – are among the nine most-benched Fantasy assets of this round of fixtures.

Sterling hasn’t scored more than six FPL points in a single game since Gameweek 14 but his season-long average of 7.1 points per match is second only to Mohamed Salah among FPL midfielders.

City are the only Premier League club without a clean sheet since the start of December, while Wolves haven’t kept a shut-out on the road since Gameweek 8.

Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Danilo; Fernandinho, Silva, Bernardo; Sane, Sterling, Jesus.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-1-2): Patricio; Bennett, Coady, Boly; Jonny, Dendoncker, Neves, Doherty; Moutinho; Jimenez, Jota.

If Kane out (Kane+Success+Puncheon->Jimenez+Ings+Alli) how's this team looking:

    3-5-2 / 4-5-1 / 4-4-2

    0.4 IDB, WC active

    Etheridge
    Robbo, TAA, Digne
    Salah, Sterling, Pogba, Alli, Siggy
    Rash, Jimenez

    Button, Ings, Doherty, Bednarek

No need to get ings IMO.
      You'll have good 7 attacker's & 4 defender's.
I'd prefer Money itb than having benching headaches

Man City the most difficult team for FPL? At the start of the season the expectation was that it would be Liverpool which would cause a lot of FPL dilemma and confusion because it would be so difficult to know where the goals would come from and which players to choose. It's Man City now this season where it's most difficult to know where the FPL points are going to come from.

Don't bench Jimenez. Nice team but you've left yourself with quite the benching headache there. Mine is pretty much identical except I have Auba instead of Solanke and Bennett instead of Digne - to prevent exactly this kind of conundrum.

    3. Four Hit Wonder

Doherty could do better than him in that game.

Wolves are at home so LEI will probably sit back. Jimenez won't have as much space to run into and hence why I'm thinking of benching him of Doherty. Doherty has potential both sides of the field.

I am considering playing Digne & Rich against Southampton, as Sou are the home team and will press, leaving space for Rich. Digne has potential both ends as Sou are playing Long up front. Seriously, Long.

City attacking asset's have lost their appeal FPL wise for me. Just not safe to get anyone as they have cover for literally every position in the team but LB.
I think I'll have a punt on Mendy when he comes back.

Kane injury could be detrimental now that Kun & Jesus both are options again. So confused 🙁

This isn’t true. They played together in weeks 9 and 11 and Sane had two goals and two assists. Now that Pep has embraced the 4-3-3, Sane isn’t going anywhere - even when Mendy returns.

          • 9 Years

They've always been a 4-3-3, Sane just hasn't played with Mendy much because they are both used to provide width. Mendy bombs forward down the line and Sane plays most of the game hugging the sideline, they can't both be there.

            Explain GW9 and GW11.

That's such a terrible response. Give some actual analysis, watch a game, read Pep's comments... Just because something happened twice doesn't make that the norm or expected outcome. Explain GW1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 12, and basically all of last season when they were fit together. It's so clear you've just looked at the gameweek history (the only two weeks that suit your argument) and have no idea about the actual system.

Not so much, but okay. Here's the deal, Pep is going to play his best 11, and Sane is in that 11.

There were a LOT of factors going on early in the season that are critical for context.

Sane had a bad attitude that carried over from his World Cup snub. By all accounts, he wasn't working hard. Pep has shown that he doesn't tolerate that and seemed willing to send a message.

Pep also showed a ton of faith in Mahrez early in the season. He was comfortable with Mahrez on the right side of the pitch and Sterling on the left. I think Pep's confidence in Mahrez has eroded and I really don't see any way that he goes back to using Mahrez on the right and Sterling on the left, do you?

I think that's why GW9 and GW11 are instructive: Pep started to regain faith in Sane, started to lose faith in Mahrez, and realized that Sane on the left - even with Mendy - is the best attacking side he can put out there. It resulted in them battering two teams with Mendy providing the width and Sane tucking in a bit more and getting in better goal-scoring positions...and getting two goals and two assists in the process. So, in fact, you could claim that Mendy coming actually makes Sane a MORE attractive prospect because he isn't forced to provide the width and actually is in better spots for returns.

But, hey, thanks for your condescending response.

59, 26, 5, 75, 16, 29, 19, 90, 90, 90. That's almost the exact opposite of the crap you just made up about Mahrez's minutes and Pep's feelings. Did he tell you those things himself? You're free to make whatever decisions you want based on whatever you feel important.

So, you tell me: When Mendy is back, how do you think they will line up across the front three?

We're a long way from Mendy's return still. Last time it was pushed back for ages and he was the one who reportedly fell out with Pep. If Sane maintains his form I'm sure he'll get a lot of minutes. B.Silva could easily get minutes on the right and so could Mahrez, with Sterling being the most productive in the team moving to the left. You need to keep in mind that a best 11 is just that, a group of 11, not 11 individuals. Guessing what Pep will do is futile.

Took an uncharacteristic 8 point hit. Auba and Martial out for Rash and Sterling. Good moves or a bit mad? Also got Salah and Pogba.

Eh I dunno. Martial definitely out good. Never owned Auba but some nice fixtures after Chelsea but then again Arsenal bit mud.

Martial is on borrowed time with me. Although he's still starting and has 2 plum fixtures coming up. The moment he gets benched for Sanchez or Lukaku he's a gonna though. Arsenal look crap lately so Auba out isn't too bad and the two you are getting in are definitely upgrades.

Yeah same. Chelsea are crap against buses but are playing some relatively open games over the next few. I'm worried about lack of City though (only got Sane atm)

If Kane is out for a spell and it looks like that may be the case who will fill his boots?

It is easy to say Llorente but i am not so sure and i think there is a good chance it could be Alli that is the one to take up mantle.

So do you think it will be Alli or Llorente?

Yeah,he is in the mix also once he shakes off that injury.

I can not remember Poch trusting Llorente to lead the line too many times but i seem to remember Alli being entrusted with the job a few times and doing a decent job too.

Hopefully Poch clarify's how he wants to proceed without Kane in his presser.

Assuming Kane is out, which option would you suggest? have 2ft, 2.7m and a long list of changes i want to make

    Fabianski -- Button
Digne Holebas Doherty -- Alonso (ars) schindler
    Son Hazard Anderson Pogba Rich
    Jimenez Kane -- Kamara

A: Son + Kane >> Salah + Rashford +3m...can use that to upgrade Anderson >> Eriken/Mane/Sane/KDB/Alli in gw24. ideally would like one of auba/kun but not sure how sigh! Also, benching alonso is asking for trouble

    B: Alonso + Son + Kane >> TAA + Salah + Aguero (-4)....means no rashford but i get a big hitter in Augero. can look to do anderson/kamara >> puncheon/Rashford (-4) in gw24

    C: something else?
