The FPL Gameweek 32 team news: what we know so far

Ten Premier League manager press conferences took place on Thursday, though there was frustration for existing and prospective owners of Manchester United assets hoping for some clarification on the injury front.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as permanent United boss couldn’t have come at a worse time for Fantasy managers as the Norwegian’s 4pm presser, brought forward from the usual Friday slot, was completely dominated by talk of his three-year deal and the Red Devils’ medium-term future.

Luke Shaw (£5.1m), Marcus Rashford (£7.6m), Romelu Lukaku (£10.6m) and Anthony Martial (£7.2m) – amongst others – all have yellow flags attached to their names in Fantasy Premier League but there were no injury updates provided by Solskjaer in his 17-minute conference today.

The hope for Fantasy managers is that the usual interview with MUTV still takes place on Friday morning, as there isn’t another formal press conference planned.

The manager’s exclusive chats with the club’s own television station have often been as helpful as the pressers in the past, so there is still reason to be optimistic of a bulletin on United’s walking wounded.

Things We’ve Learned

There was a sense that Thursday was the calm before the storm regarding the all-important injury updates for Double Gameweek 32.

The managers of the five other “big six” clubs, plus Nuno Espirito Santo and Roy Hodgson, are scheduled to hold their press conferences on Friday and there will be plenty of FPL bosses awaiting news on flagged assets from Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs, Wolves and Crystal Palace.

Watford also have two fixtures in Gameweek 32 and Javi Gracia delivered his own presser late on Thursday afternoon, revealing that Tom Cleverley (calf) is his only injury-related absentee for the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday:

Holebas is available for the next game. All the internationals came back in good condition. We only have Tom Cleverley with a problem in his calf. We’ll see his evolution next week. The rest of the players are available.

Andre Gray had a small problem after the last game, but he has been training all week. He is ready to compete as well.

The Hornets’ head coach was asked about possible rotation ahead of the FA Cup semi-final a week on Sunday but replied:

In seven, eight days we are going to play three games and we have to take the right decisions but all the games are important for us. In this moment, the most important [game] is United.

Some players [have been] playing with their national teams, and now with three games in a row in a short time, we need to take decisions about that. But, in this moment, I am only focused on the next game. We try to choose the best eleven.

Gracia was never going to completely reveal his plans but he did at least hint in the above quotes that his international contingent may be carefully managed.

Not that many of his players were away on international duty over the last fortnight: only Craig Cathcart, Sebastian Prodl, Ken Sema, Roberto Pereyra, Pontus Dahlberg and Domingos Quina were away with their respective countries and four of those players are reserves.

Gerard Deulofeu was denied permission by the Hornets to represent Catalonia against Venezuela, meanwhile.

Brighton also have a Double Gameweek 32 but will be without Pascal Gross (hamstring) for the visit of Southampton on Saturday.

Florin Andone (thigh) is back in training, however, while Davy Propper has recovered from a minor problem he picked up over the international break.

From the internationals, everybody’s come back OK.

The two that haven’t been training are Gross and Andone. Andone trained today, Gross didn’t, so Gross will not be available. Andone we will make a decision on but he did train today.

Davy Propper is fine. The right thing was done after the first [Netherlands] game which he played when he felt it.

Hughton was also asked about rotation in Double Gameweek 32 ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against City next Saturday and said:

It is very much taking one game at a time. We certainly can’t afford to start thinking of games in two, three games time or picking out specific games where we feel we have a better chance of getting something from. It will help if we have got as many bodies fit as what we have at the moment.

Not many Fantasy managers will be interested in Fulham assets in spite of their double-header in Gameweek 32 but the Cottagers do play Manchester City in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, so the team news from Scott Parker is still noteworthy in that regard.

Alfie Mawson (knee) remains out despite a return to the training ground but Parker will make a check on two players who started in Gameweek 31 and who arrived back late from international duty:

There are slight concerns regarding a couple of the lads who have come back from long distances and will probably only come into the building tomorrow morning – Tim Ream and Mika [Seri] – so we’ll need to look at them.

Among the single Gameweek teams, there was mixed news from Marco Silva at Everton.

Yerry Mina (hamstring) will be out for some time after picking up an injury playing for Colombia in Seoul, but the Toffees will welcome back three players from the treatment table ahead of the trip to West Ham.

Silva was asked about Lucas Digne, Phil Jagielka and Andre Gomes and said:

They are all OK. Lucas, we have to take care of him in some moments. We have one more session but he looks in condition to play.

On Mina, Silva added:

Not good news, it’s serious. Let’s see how many weeks he will be out. We expect to see Mina training again with us [before the end of the season].

Everton are up against West Ham on Saturday evening and Manuel Pellegrini said that he has concerns about Samir Nasri‘s (calf) availability ahead of that fixture:

Samir Nasri has a problem in his calf this week so maybe he won’t be able to play this weekend.

I think the players with long injuries – Wilshere, Yarmolenko, Carlos Sanchez – continue with their recovery. Andy Carroll is continuing with medical tests. There is no other news.

One of Crystal Palace’s two Gameweek 32 opponents are Huddersfield Town, who are gradually welcoming back players from injury ahead of that clash.

Jan Siewert was asked about Jonathan Hogg, Christopher Schindler and Danny Williams and said:

They are all available and all of them will be a possibility for the squad at the weekend. We had 21 players today in training, which is a good number.

[Laurent Depoitre] just came back to the full team today. He still had problems with his foot. It was his first training session today so he won’t be able to play at the weekend but he’s in a good way.

Adama Diakhaby (hamstring) and Demeaco Duhaney (hip) remain out, while Isaac Mbenza (calf) looks unlikely to feature despite his recent return to training. Jason Puncheon is ineligible to face his parent club, meanwhile.

Sean Dyche’s only fresh concern for Burnley’s meeting with Wolves on Saturday is over Johann Berg Gudmundsson (calf).

The Clarets’ boss said:

We’ve got to monitor the fact that he missed some training, missed a game [for Iceland]. We looked at him today, he was on the grass, but we’ll have to make a call on that.

Southampton face a Double Gameweek 32 team in Brighton and could have Danny Ings (hamstring) back in the starting XI.

Ralph Hasenhuttl said on Thursday:

Shane Long is the only guy [from those away on international duty] who is not fit. Today is the first time training with the team.

It would be not so easy [for Long to play] without training for a week. We’ll have a look, we don’t have to decide it today.

Danny Ings trained for two weeks now with the first team. Last week we had this friendly game against QPR and he played 45 minutes without problem so far. If he is an option for the starting XI, we will see.

Brendan Rodgers, meanwhile, said that his international contingent have “all come back fit and well” so apart from Marc Albrighton (hamstring) and Daniel Amartey (leg), Leicester have a clean bill of health.

Harry Maguire is suspended, however.

    ____ (3.9)
    Azpilicueta ____ Lindelöf PVA (3.8)
    Sterling Sané Hazard Pogba (4.2)

    A. Ryan Rudiger/Luiz (0.3 ITB)

        Useful suggestion - thanks.
If I settle for Luiz or Rud instead of Azpi, I can stretch to Jiménez or Zaha as my 3rd striker.
If set on Azpi, it's Batshuayi which feels less appealing.

I think Batshuayi is worth the punt. I see palace dominating Huddersfield with ease, and if they score goals, Batshuayi should be involved.

Palace perform well against the top teams, 3 goals away at City and Liverpool, and with Batshuayi likely to start both, who’s to say he cant return at Spurs aswell? I wouldn’t be suprised.

He's a player capable of a decent haul. Laporte seems to carry a degree of risk himself over two starts.
Ederson has just a 12 pt ceiling.

I don’t buy this 2nd tier stuff. Pep has done this with Sané before. Just because he’s been out of favour doesn’t mean he’s not in his ideal first 11. Some peculiar man management stuff going on there at present - dropping players for extended periods (see Kun / Jesus etc.) - but Sané is part of Peps best front 3 imo.

That's not to say I won't be surprised if he starts both GW32 fixtures on the bench. I'd be just as unsurprised if he suddenly found himself starting both matches 😀

            B) Laporte, Foster, Delu

Difficult one I think because Laporte and Foster high ceiling due to threat and saves. But prefer Jota to Delu I think and Ederson, Dunk most likely guarentteed 180 mins. Hmmm

              A) 3-5-2 with Luiz, Son and Delfoue
              B) 4-3-3 with Azpi, Duffy and Higuian

Free hit team, going balls to the wall hoping for a couple of 2/3-0 Chelsea wins and City to run riot!

              Kepa
              AWB Schlupp Holebas
              Haz Pogba Dilva Sterling
              Aguerro C Jiminez Higuain

              Views anyone?

I know defence is weakish, but potential one clean sheet for each of them., maybe 2 for Kepa could mean a 40 point haul from them.

Is this a good alternative in your view?

                Lloris

Thank you. This team is an alternative I am considering, but I think I am mostly set on:

                      Kepa
                      Lindelof, Azpi, Schlupp
                      Pogba, Sterling, Hazard, Son, David
                      Kun, Rash

Seem a stronger side? Think Son might be worth?

                      Dilva - rotation risk.
Lloris - bad pick, bad form, bad fixtures, expensive.
Schlupp better than Tomkins if you have 0.2.
                      Rest is great.

In fact I have to agree on Lloris. Schlupp great pick as well.

I have been thinking about David vs Laporte during the last few days. David seem to represent a higher rotation threat, but also seems to offer a higher ceiling, imo. I am really tempted to risk big and go with 3 City attackers

                        Confident about Son?

I am actually considering him on my “base” draft:

                        Kepa
                        Lindelof, Azpi, Schlupp
                        Pogba, Sterling, Hazard, Son, David
                        Kun, Rash

                        Seem a more decent side?

I am tempted to go with Silva as my 3rd City choice.

Maybe if Lukaku is ruled out and Martial is fit, I’ll bring Martial instead of David and bring a City defender (or Ederson).

Foster + Sane or Kepa + Dilva? I just feel Sane could blow up. And there is nothing to suggest Dilva will play more minutes than him.

Incorrect. They have 2 in 5 games and the 3 before were CSs as well, so 5 in 8.

It really makes a nonsense of things when people selectively choose a certain small sample (perhaps even in one specific competition only) and base an argument on that. It would only make sense to do so if something material had changed (new system, new manager) and even then it would only be indicative.

Chelsea are a good defensive team. Not as good as Liverpool and they don't have the same level of game control as City. But they are nevertheless one of the best in the PL. That's the underlying trend and it is worth more than a very short-term sample.

A well structured argument, 2 CS in the last 5 league games, or 3 CS in the last 10 games. Thats 3 CS this year.....in the league. Unfortunately the stats don't lie. End of the day, I have 2 balls and neither of them are crystal, but IMO, there's enough to suggest that Chelsea will not keep 2 CS this GW. If they do, feel free and come back to comment on this post.

I'm not into points-scoring because I have no crystal ball either. But you are ignoring the CS against City in 120 minutes and the 3 recent CSs in the EL against opposition every bit as good as what they are facing this week.

Looking at PL only is senseless when it comes to assessing a team or player. Why ignore other data when it bears on the assessment? That was the point I wanted to make really.

You are right that it is rather less likely that they will get 2 CSs in GW32. But it is also rather less likely that they will get none. Would, say, 8-9 points each be acceptable from a double-up? I'd say so. After that, if you are lucky you get 12-14 each and if unlucky maybe 4 each. Excluding any possible attacking points or save points of course.

He’s not rubbish, however, this is a common sentiment among keyboard warriors and those who don’t understand football. People conform to the perception that he is too old and overweight without even watching him play. His movement in and around the box is fantastic and he has registered more shots in the box than any other player over the last 4 GW’s. This was exemplified by his hauls against Hudds and Fulham. He will prosper this week and I cannot fathom why his ownership is so low. A perfect differential.

Because that’s what people told you? A double defence that just conceded twice to Everton who are defensively very tight at Goodison, recording a clean sheet against Liverpool also

as a chelsea fan i feel its potentially 2 cs against those sides.

1 CS in 5 isn't exactly inspiring me to double down on Chelsea defence. CAR have 5 goals in 5 games, Brighton 6 in 5. Not prolific, but I don't see two CS.

Yeah, I'd love to have him if I thought he would start both games. But I don't and have just removed him for Kun.

I can't take him out of my side, not with those fixtures - I think he'll play 90 & 30 mins approx and score. A guy who's scored goals for Real, Juve, Milan & Argentina ain't a 'rubbish player' imo. I know he's obviously past his peak but i reckon these fixtures suit him. Who knows? We're all guessing really aren't we....

With many similar teams. The less essentials and more risk e.g. Batman, Deeney, Delu, Jota and captain choice will be huge. On Jota or Delu and Kun atm.

Not that many are on FT or WC this GW so should be a big green either way

If you knew right now, that Sane plays 0 minutes against Fulham, and 90 against Cardiff, is he in your free hit team? 9.3 is a fair chunk. Essentially a single game week player in this case. Discuss

Would Prefer Jota or Delu for one of their games at much cheaper budget or even a Pedro/Martial potentially. Tricky one but doubt I woudl

Would rather have Mane vs Spurs than Sane vs any of those for a single week.

Aren't there some concerns about Zaha's gametime?

Also as a Higuain owner there's just no way I trust him in my FH side. Plenty of others seem to like him though.
