Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

Found this a very difficult wildcard

    Ryan - (Leno)
    Duffy - Trippier - TAA - Laporte - (Valery)
    Sterling - Mane - Erkison - Son - (JWP)
    Aguero - Jimmy - (Deeney)

Could swap Aguerror and KDB for Sterling and Lacazette?

I don’t see the appeal of Vardy on WC. Form can’t be the only argument looking at previous fixtures

    Previous fixtures
    Fulham
    Burnley
    Leicester
    Huddersfield

    Upcoming
    Newcastle
    West Ham
    Arsenal
    Man City
    Man United

    He’s price is more than
    Rashford, Deeney, Jimmy ect

He does not have a DGW

    Leicester nothing to play for

      I'm not looking past Newcastle

He easily moves across to Laca, Firminio, Rashford, Deeney for DGW35 but Leicester are still in the new manager bounce phase so I'm prepared to see if that extends to this weeks game.

They have the new manager to impress still and they are in terrific form.

Newcastle and west ham are good fixtures - he will very likely outscore Rashford and Deeney over 34 and 35

Tbh NEW, whu, ARS are very good fixtures.
He's the most inform player in the league.
He's a good cash cow to shift to other players.

Because he plays for Arsenal who don't play well in away games.
Also when things don't go right Emery changes formation & takes kola off sometimes & turn Monreal LB.
      So....

That what i am currently on, but just trying out different options... Maybe i just should log off and let the team stand:

        GKP: Ryan (Foster)
DEF: Laporte, Duffy (C), Robertson (Doherty) (Valery)
MID: Ward-Prowse, Mané, Son (V), Sterling, Eriksen
        FWD: Agüero, Jiménez (Deeney)

I love how when people talk about the Spurs defence it's either Trippier or Lloris as if their centre backs don't exist.

They carry little attacking threat, compared to Trippier.

Which premium defender would people opt for on a WC?

I had an entirely budget defence (well with Kola) in my WC Kane team, but with him out I'm struggling to find a way to invest the funds he frees up.

Ideally someone with a double game week, I was between Laporte and Trippier, but obviously rotation, and even fixtures, aren't appealing for either.

I’m planning on benching TAA playing 4 at the back.

              Ryan
              Trips Laporte Robbo Duffy
              Son eriksen mane
              Kun Jimenez Deeney

              Ederson JWP Doucoure TAA

Just feel defenders in doubles don’t get rotated as much and backing the two best defences in the title run in is my tactic.

I'm with you, it's a good tactic, I'm just looking at Liverpool and seeing a few nerves lately. Allison, VvD, not looking as composed in games.
I'm definitely going without on WC, but with a plan to bring in (probably TAA) ahead of GW36.
