Are West Ham defenders worth FPL investment?

Three clean sheets on the bounce have placed West Ham’s defence back on the Fantasy Premier League radar.

The Hammers have not conceded a single goal since Andre Gray (£5.9m) scored for Watford in Gameweek 3.

Following the 3-1 win at Vicarage Road, Norwich, Aston Villa and Manchester United have all gone up against Manuel Pellegrini’s men and failed to make a breakthrough.

Interest in West Ham’s defensive assets is understandably on the increase, but are they worth the investment.

This article aims to uncover the Hammers’ clean sheet potential over their upcoming fixtures and which individual assets warrant the spending.

As it uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who are signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

What is West Ham’s clean sheet potential?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 6:

A is captain material. He costs £11 for a reason.
B is following the crowd, possibly making some money.
C is to cover and even outperform Salah if you don't have Salah.

I have B and will get C before the deadline.

Maddison might not be fit for the Newcastle game and deep down you don't really want Zouma, so that rules out C. Probably B but Ceballos and Aarons need fixing.

He was rested at the weekend, no need to rest twice in a week
And Everton it's not Watford and Preston, so City needs their best players

      Impossible to say for sure

It looks likely (surely even a fraudulent maniac like Pep wouldn’t bench him twice in 3 games, right?)

      HOWEVER

There does exist the possibility that he won’t start - anyone who says otherwise has their head in the sand

For my money he starts though - but with champions league 3 days later I could see truncated minutes

Elite player, one of the top 10 best players in the world. Also Pep's pet project, he gets a lot of the credit for Sterling's development from great to world-class. Got a much-deserved rest after playing the full 90 mins (Maybe subbed of just once, not sure) in 9 matches straight for club and country. Safe to say he will start most matches, and if anyone says otherwise I would argue that they are a hopeful non-owner, or in denial about how good sterling is and what he means to this ManCity team.

Read above. Is the difference between a great and elite player. Sterling starts over Mahrez unless he is deemed to require a rest.

Mahrez has been amazing but he is simply the 3rs best wide forward at City behind Sterling and Bilva, unlucky but he knew what he was getting into and will still see plenty of mins as they compete for all 4 trophies.

    Heaton — Pope

To answer the article - in the medium term, Diop would be the solid pick and rotates we'll with several good cheaper defenders. Soyuncu and Diop (or even Lund) works.

Agreed, my question is tomori or Diop? Both have the fixtures and are the same price. West Ham over performing defensively and chels under performing when looking at shots conceded in the box

Very tough. I'd go with whoever rotates with better fixtures/Home games.
I think Diop has a bit more goal threat from set pieces - but tomori clearly has a worldie/through ball in his locker.

They did that with Salah as well last season, didn't they?
Price changes are part of the game and transparency would be fair. Never gonna happen though.

Zinchenko well rested and will most likely start IMHO.

Current team with 2FT & £0.3m in the bank:
      Pope Heaton
      Digne Maitland-Niles VVD Aurier Lundsteam
Salah KDB MOUNT CANTWELL D. Luiz
      Abraham Pukki Aguero

      Was thinking:
Digne and Maitland Niles out for Otamendi and Pereira.

Is this worth it/best way to use 2 FT?
      Thanks for the help

I recall some summer comments from Poch that Foyth can play RB, now he is fit does that mean Aurier is too risky?

Foyth has played at right back, KWP back now too so it does seem risky.

I think all Poch full backs come with an element of risk. Think Aurier is a decent punt if you have good bench cover.

He CAN play RB, but its not his first position. So why would you shoehorn a youngster into his non favourable position to dislodge a pretty decent natural RB?

        Yeah I’m in two minds

I promised myself I’d go Salah perma from last week onwards but Son is very tempting

Salah with pens and Klopp’s refusal to bench him or limit his minutes though is just mister consistency , even with those fixtures

Yeah but maybe Kun gets few hatties and KdB blanks, although on current form hardly but everything is possible. You never know but its beetwen them that bugs because Kun is major differential in my league.

      TAA. Soy. Tomori. Aurier

      Mane. KDB. Son (C)

      Aguero. Tammy. Pukki

      Subs- 4.0/ Cantwell/ Lundstram/ Hayden

I'd do what you've done. Norwich have been poor away, plus you've got Pukki covering anyway. Tomori has Brighton at home ... if you aren't going to play him this week, you might as well bring in a 4m!

      TAA Ota Pieters
      Salah Sterling KDB Mount Cantwell
      Pukki Barnes

      Digne, Lund, Greenwood

      A) Digne to Soy
