International Football

How many minutes did FPL assets play over the international break?

A busier-than-usual international break has come to an end and the Premier League players who were in action for their respective homelands have gradually returned to England ahead of Gameweek 5.

Some nations crammed in a triple-header of games over the last fortnight, with a handful of Fantasy assets taking part in all three of their country’s matches.

Fatigue is certainly a concern ahead of the Premier League’s resumption, be it through on-field exertions on the continent or due to long-haul flights back from further afield.

In this article, we’ll round up how many minutes each FPL asset clocked up while on international duty.

MOST MINUTES PLAYED

To the best of our knowledge, these were the players who racked up the most minutes over the international break:

FURTHEST TRAVELLED AND LATEST RETURNEES

Most of the matches that took place over the international break, including the friendlies involving the African teams, Mexico and Japan, were staged in Europe.

There were a number of World Cup qualifiers held in South America, however, so the likes of James Rodriguez (£7.8m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) and Alex Telles (£5.5m) have had to endure long-haul flights back from their respective countries after being in action in the early hours of Wednesday morning (UK time).

Everton and Liverpool, of course, meet in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off at Goodison Park.

The South American countries weren’t the last ones in action, however, with a host of European teams – including England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, Italy and France – contesting Nations League games on Wednesday evening.

The dates for all of the international games in October are available here.

CLUB-BY-CLUB ROUND-UP

The team-by-team guide below breaks down the minutes that each player has played per international match over the last week or so, with a total given at the end.

Any players with an asterisk next to their names withdrew from their countries’ squads either at the outset or midway through the international break or picked up an injury at the back-end of it.

We’ll have further details on any lingering fitness concerns in our pre-Gameweek 5 team news round-up on Friday.

0.4 difference now between Salah & Mane. It’s an actual decision again (if you have neither or on WC)

Anyone know when the pressers are today?

    Who would you captain?
    A) Son (In form and at home, but the West Ham defence will be tough to face)
    B) Salah (Never scored at Goodison, but Pool and Salah have the right motivation this time, and he is well rested. Normally lowscoring but this season is not like any other)
    C) Sterling (4 goals and 2 assists in 6 games against Arsenal. Hes an injury doubt, but I bet hes just well rested. Arsenal defence has been good lately but Tierney probably wont play?City need a big win)

Impossible to chose this time, hope the pressers give a clue or I will just toss a 3-sided coin!

I don't really like any of options this week and i'm on wc!

KDB or Sterling v Arsenal has history and you'd think city might bounce back, but both coming back from knocks and therefore might not be 100% / high chance of early sub. Especially with champions league midweek and a busy upcoming schedule.

Arsenal are playing pretty well and looking solid defensively so even though i expect city to win, it might be a close game (2-1).

I actually think someone like Fernandes could be a good shout as Newcastle are a bit jeckle and hyde and could see 3-1 united win with a usual penalty. Otherwise Son (rested and in form) is a safe choice, though against a deep set West Ham defence Kane probably has a higher ceiling.

Need to understand why everyone is so high on Pulisic suddenly.
Is there anything i missed ??
Know he's fit now but I decided to wait for a couple of gw's to get him.

Any information that is making him an obvious pick ?

High percentage of Americans on here, and stock is always higher for a returning long-term injured player. Still a great option when he is fully back though.

Surprised at so many backing Salah for the armband this week?

Isn't the Derby game normally a tight affair? Can't recall Salah doing well in this game?

Is it just lack of anyone else trustworthy this week?

Yeah at Goodison it is especially tight and low scoring historically.
I think with doubts over City assets non Son owners don’t really have anyone else to rely on.

I think it's a really lazy choice. As managers we can definitely look for better potential elsewhere considering they're playing away at Goodison against a really on-form Everton team.

There's nothing great there in terms of fixture history, underlying stats or even team form.

Everton much more attacking these days and less defensive, so In think there should be goals, even though history says otherwise. Expecting at least one goal from Salah.

Been faltering on bringing in Salah, waiting for updates on Sterling and KDB as I have both.
If no clear signal on their availability from Pep (as can be expcted), would oy:

    A) Keep both and pray at least one plays
    B) KDB ->
    1. Salah -4pts
    2. Mane -4pts
    C) Sterling ->
    1. Salah -4pts
    2. Mane -4pts

have Son btw, but injury doubt ridden team so can't afford both not playing

Im in a same situation as you, not owning Salah. I dont think KdB will miss out unless Guardiola says he is out. But Im more worried about not owning Salah and how that can punish me.

Worried about no Salah too. Tried to be smart and ditched him for triple City mid - didn't work out well to say the least. Long term though, I'd rather lose Sterling than KDB due to nailedness and pens.
