Scoutcast Episode 357 – Double and Blank Gameweek planning

Joe is joined by FPL Family’s Sam and Ted Talks FPL’s Ted to look ahead to Gameweek 14 and the impending Blank and Double Gameweek fixtures.

Fantasy Premier League managers already have plenty to consider with fixtures arriving thick and fast at this busy festive period in the season.

And now they have Blank and Double Gameweeks to ponder, after the Premier League announced details of a limited set of fixtures in Gameweek 18 and a bumper crop of extra games in Gameweek 19.

How FPL managers tackle this tricky period in the season largely depends on their current set-up and chip availability.

Joe, Sam and Ted look in detail at the different strategies to consider as well as the best players to target.

Ted is building up a reputation for presenting smart FPL-related graphics across social media. We grabbed the opportunity to find out more about his latest images, which look at the best chance creators and most obliging defences.

In all the excitement over the Double Gameweek, our trio present a timely reminder of the sides with one fixture in Gameweek 19 that cannot be ignored, most notably Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Elsewhere, Sam takes her turn to pick a differential, there are festive fixtures to frisk, and captaincy and transfer plans to reveal.

The episode was streamed live on Thursday night during Manchester United’s trip to relegation candidates Sheffield United. With Red Devils star Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) captained by Sam and Joe, viewers get to see their live reaction to the midfielder’s pivotal performance during an already low-scoring Gameweek 13 for many.

      Similar position but not sure I feel great bringing Coufal in for Chelsea away.
      With my WC coming in a couple of weeks, I'm leaning towards a better short-term option - Brighton / Villa (Pool if can stretch or gamble on Williams)

      I think roll a FT is a great option if you can for the next few weeks.

      avoiding unnecessary tinkering is hard though.

      I don't have Kane, so difficult to be impartial, but I don't really get the love for him over Salah this GW. In your shoes though he's a great option

    Here's my stab at most boring double transfer of the season... I'll WC in GW16 so just for the next two.

    Soucek & Branthwaite > C. Jones & Targett.
    I'd play Targett over Adams and have Jones first sub this week. Thoughts!?

        the point scorer bit is harsh. i have watched the last 2 pool games and he could easily have had 3 attacking returns.

          Perhaps a little, for 4.4m he's not so bad I suppose.

          Also I would assume it's bench fodder for OP anyway - I just think overall there's probably a better move there that wouldn't burn 2 frees.

            There's a bit of me that can see it burning, and Adams has been good to me, but City's defensive numbers are very, very solid.

      For a bench player, Jones is absolutely fine. He's only 4.4m so even 1-2 points is acceptable.
      Just depends if you've made much money on Soucek and if you'll want him back...

      Agree Justin's time is limited in my side. WC 16, position under threat soon, and poor fixtures.
      Having said that, wouldn't ever take -4 for defender unless it was e.g. TAA/Robbo.

    A: Lewis >> Taylor/Coufal/Dallas so i can have a better bench defender as newcastle fixtures not great between gw15-17. This would leave me with 7 players for gw18 and 6 players for gw19 with 5FT's left till then

    B: James >> Dier. Tough call but will James start gw15 after back to back losses? Also chelsea fixtures not great from gw16 so not sure if worth having double chelsea defence.

    C: James + Kdb + Watkins >> Taylor + Grealish + Kane (c) (-4). Prefer grealish and Kane long term. Can captain Kane. Would have done a similar move in gw16

    Between Kane and Bruno for captaincy. I think i will go Kane cause he never disappoints me but it's too close. Also own Salah Son but I don't feel I want to cap them over the other two.

        I agree they may find their post lockdown form of the last season. They can score 3-4 goals Vs Leeds but still Kane Vs Leicester is a lovely matchup specially in this amazing season Harry Kane is having so far.

        Tbh when I don't captain Salah he usually hauls and when I do he returns me single digit but he has scored for so many games in a row with some luck or pens, he seems on form but he is tired of so many games in a row.

        Well you can't use BB or triple cap if you use free hit then ,but it's not a terrible strategy in fact there is no bad or good strategy, there's what you think will get most points and what everyone else does

      Rashford is going to rise tonight. I now see him as an easier route to Man U than Bruno which would unbalance the rest of my team if i brought him in.

      Rashford looked electric at times last night. Albeit playing a team low on confidence. Utd are shaky still but he and Fernandes will still haul over Xmas.

      2.0 ITB and 1FT. I'm looking to move on Kilman this week, Lamptey next week. Any advice on decent replacements over the next few weeks. I was looking at Kilman > James this week and Lamptey > Dier next week. Thoughts?
