Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 14?

Fantasy Premier League managers face one of the trickiest captaincy decisions of the Christmas period in Gameweek 14.

High-scoring and in-form Manchester United host Leeds United in one of the most anticipated games of the month, bringing Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) and Marcus Rashford (£9.4m) to the fore.

Also, after a draw at Crystal Palace and a last-minute defeat at Anfield, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur will have a point to prove as Leicester City come to north London.

Elsewhere, Liverpool prepare for a potentially tough-to-call trip to Crystal Palace although Roy Hodgson has played five, lost five as Eagles manager against his former club.

Thankfully for you, the Captain Sensible article is back once again to help you make the big decisions ahead of Gameweek 14.

CAPTAIN POLL

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) tops the captain poll for Gameweek 14 ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Selhurst Park.

The Egyptian has delivered attacking returns in each of his last four Premier League matches, accumulating three goals and two assists in that time – earning him 39.3% share of the latest vote.

Fernandes’ first away blank as a Manchester United player has not eliminated him from the latest captaincy debate, 21.5% of our readers backing him for the armband when Leeds come to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites have given up an average of 1.8 goals per away game this season although the Red Devils have netted just three times at home so far.

Harry Kane (£10.9m) claims the bronze medal for the captaincy this week, earning 12.1% of the votes as Spurs prepare to host Leicester City. The talismanic forward has 14 goals and one assist in his last nine meetings with the Foxes.

A trip to Southampton for Kevin De Bruyne (£11.0m) and Manchester City is enough to ward off widespread interest in the Belgian this time around. Just 6.6% of you are willing to captain him at St. Mary’s Stadium, where the Saints have the second-best home record this season.

Despite Kane’s earning a place in the top-three for Gameweek 14, just 3.1% of the voters feel that Son Heung-min (£9.6m) is worth considering this time around.

Rashford, Callum Wilson (£6.6m), Andrew Robertson (£7.2m), Sadio Mané (£11.9m) and Ben Chilwell (£6.2m) are the only other assets with more than 1%.

    Transfer paralysis. Help. Got 0.2 ITB 2ft but nothing I want to do but so aware that a transfer is precious especially now we know the bgw & dgw’s. So much value tied up that anyone I sell I’m unlikely to be able to get back in. Burn the transfer? (Never, ever done it!)

        If there was it would be done. Killman the only viable option but he has been dropped. So stuck in paralysis.

      I have the same problem as well. I plan to transfer kilman or mitchel to douglas just to burn FT and get spare money. If you dont want to use 4th def in the future, just use the FT to transfer out mitchel to get 0.1m

      You need to find some cash, so you're going to need to downgrade 1 player. It's difficult: KDB to Son or Grealish out for the fixture turn gw16 - tough choices. Son would give you 2.6m funds for a 2nd playing keeper, Mitchell upgrade +possible upgrades elsewhere for BB

    2fts and 0.4m itb. I'm looking to create funds to get Son/Kane in next week so I was looking at downgrading Cancelo and Chilwell to do so. This week I was going to do just Cancelo to Dier and then next week Chilwell and Grealish to C.Taylor and Son?? Thoughts??....

    Does anybody feel like using the Free Hit in GW18 is a bit of a waste? Would it be better to save and wait for other doubles at the end of the season?

      My head is going to explode. I agree later in the season I will be kicking myself when the second blank comes around which my be even worse than this one. Season breaking or season making decisions in the next 2 weeks.

      Wolves vs Everton is toss up and you don’t know who scores

      MCI vs BHA is a theoretical Phat Fixture but you can’t pick three Citizens and absolutely know they will play.

      Arsenal vs CP, who do you get?

      ShU vs NU is not predictable, you could get Wilson and two others, but why not just have wilson

        These are very good points. Unfortunately, I kind of have to use FH 18 - I have 4 or 5 players for the blank (City and Villa) so it would be hard for me to put out a very competitive 11 for 18 or 19 without a chip or two.

          4 or 5 players and you are month away. Plenty of time.

          The minimum viable team for 75% of the points is 7 players.

          So you can trade in 2 or 3 players in 4 weeks.

      Using FH in GW18 or 19 is the only way to optimise both because of the proximity of the two. I feel like not using it in one of those two is a real mistake.

      I don't - Building my team for the DWG 19 BB and using FH on 18 seems the right more for my team. I'll have my WC left for later on if things get tricky.

      Why are people scared of blanks in the future. If the blank is huge, everyone across the board is affected. You could still end up in the GW avg with 8 players on a blank GW which will be the case for most players. In short, what I'm saying is, the point ceiling and floor won't be so wide on a blank GW. That said, I am using FH in GW 19 and will slowly fill my team with triple city and triple spurs in the weeks leading to FH 18.

      Palace away isn't a great fixture at all - Bruno's is much better, but Salah being that much better than everyone else in the game is the leveller. It's close.
