Man Utd set for Triple Gameweek 35 as clash with Liverpool is rearranged

Manchester United will have a Triple Gameweek 35 after the Premier League announced that their postponed clash with Liverpool will take place next Thursday.

The Red Devils will also face Aston Villa and Leicester City in the next set of fixtures, with all three of their Gameweek 35 matches taking place in little more than 100 hours.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops will also have a Double Gameweek as a result of today’s announcement.

The soon-to-be-deposed reigning champions will take on Southampton on Saturday before they visit Old Trafford.

United will still blank in Gameweek 36 as a result, while Liverpool will be at home to Championship-bound West Bromwich Albion.

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 SCHEDULE

MANCHESTER UNITED

Sun 9 May: Aston Villa (A)
Tue 11 May: Leicester City (H)
Thu 13 May: Liverpool (H)

LIVERPOOL

Sat 8 May: Southampton (H)
Thu 13 May: Manchester United (A)

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 FIXTURE MATRIX

*Thanks to moderator Legomane

WHICH UNITED AND LIVERPOOL ASSETS STAND THE BEST CHANCE OF STARTING ALL OF THEIR GAMEWEEK 35 MATCHES?

Earlier in the week, we had a two-part look at which Double Gameweek 35 players stood the best chance of avoiding a benching in the upcoming set of fixtures.

The article linked below has been revised after today’s announcement and now includes Liverpool, along with an amended entry for Manchester United.

CHANGE OF CHIP STRATEGY/TRANSFER FOCUS?

Liverpool's front four toil at Anfield as Newcastle assets creep onto FPL radar

Today’s announcement was seismic but it doesn’t change some things.

Manchester United, for example, will still blank in Gameweek 36, so the situation remains that any Fantasy managers going all-in on the Red Devils in Triple Gameweek 35 will have to either have a strong bench, an exit plan (possibly involving hits) or an unused chip up their sleeves.

Those on a Free Hit, of course, will have no such worries.

What it does perhaps alter is a greater chance of two or more starts for most of their key players in the upcoming Gameweek, even allowing for a benching along the way.

Liverpool players suddenly become even more attractive – although that was immediately the case as soon as Sunday’s match was postponed and it became clear that the game wouldn’t be rescheduled for Gameweek 34.

A double-header against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, as had been mooted in some circles, would have been dreamland territory with regards to the Gameweek 35 captaincy and triple captaincy. The fact that United now play thrice, and one of Liverpool’s fixtures is at Old Trafford, may temper interest in Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) and co when it comes to the armband discussions.

But the Reds being one of just five teams who have two fixtures in Triple Gameweek 35 and an unaffected match in Blank Gameweek 36 is a boon for chipless FPL managers and Wildcarders alike who are investing in players for the entire run-in, not just a one-off Gameweek.

While the addition of Liverpool to the Double Gameweek 35 contingent does give chipless managers a greater chance of getting more players out with two games, those FPL bosses with Free Hits and Wildcards in hand still have the advantage of focusing mostly on the next seven days without being too concerned about the decimated schedule in Blank Gameweek 36.

IMPLICATIONS FOR OTHER TEAMS

The best Neto replacements and whether FPL managers should stick with Fernandes

Today’s shock announcement will not just affect Liverpool and United.

It could, first and foremost, also be good news for Leicester City assets.

The Foxes now have an extra day of recovery ahead of their FA Cup final appearance on Saturday 15 May, which could alleviate some of the rotation risk – if there ever was any – for that clash with United. The temptation for Brendan Rodgers to hand some of his key players a breather may partly depend on the results of the weekend fixtures, however, and where they leave his side in their ongoing push for a top-four place.

The game against the Red Devils is also the second of United’s three fixtures (or four, if we include tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League tie against Roma). Would Ole Gunnar Solksjaer perhaps rotate against the Foxes with one eye on Thursday’s clash with Liverpool, then?

Aston Villa, United’s first Triple Gameweek 36 opponents, will also be hoping for similar favours from Solskjaer on Sunday.

    Martinez* Fabri

    Bruno* ESR* Jota* Lingard Son

You're right, I can't really make many arguments against doing it, seems to work out nicely.

Cress can't keep a CS to save his life and has a SGW, Azpi has a poor DGW and may not start both to begin with and I can bring Son back in for Bruno in 36.

    Think I've cracked it

    Lloris, Son, Lingard, Kane ->
    Henderson, Bruno, Zaha, DCL (-8)

Leaves me with 8 DGW players and 3 TGW players.

    Henderson* (Sanchez)
    TAA* Digne* Targett* (Dunk, Dallas)
    Salah, Bruno* Greenwood* Zaha* (ESR*)
    Vardy* DCL* Nacho*

This leaves 1.5 ITB and 9 players for GW36.
    Have no chips left.

    Thoughts about these moves?

And how do you get Spurs back in? If don't want Spurs, sure. Lingard will also be a good option after 35, as will Lloris. You're just attacking 35 but selling 4 players you want after for at least two you don't imo. I'd be thinking of moving Targett or Dunk instead and maybe just -4 overall. Happy to discuss

    Playing bench boost, currently on:

    Pickford Guaita
    Shaw TAA Castagne Konsa Ward
    Greenwood Salah Zaha Son Lingard
    Watkins Iheanacho Kane

    Kane + Son > DCL + Bruno (-4)

Which would give me 14 out of a possible 15 players with a double or treble.

Yeah, defo 1 and then either 2 or 3.
        I’d probably lean towards Azpi

Is Kane to DCL worth a free transfer for double then Sheffield United game. Kane did not look entirely on it last week and Leeds defensively solid and could get back for final 2 games

I don't know. Doing so would solve an issue for myself, but equally he is a good captaincy option in GW36/37 which makes it a bit more unappealing.

His stats were ok, but with eye test I agree with Dunas. I made the mistake and captained him out of fear, Bale or Son are also C material gw 36. Not certain that his ankle is fit then and if he has found his shooting boots. Potential upside with DCL against MU has now also increased. But I will get him back if he's fit and in form.

I would. I am doing some kind of hokey pokey with my WC. I'll bench Bale for this gw and will sell Bruno for Son gw 36. That allows me to get Kane in for -4 next week if he is fit.

    Mendy
    TAA, Holding, Coady,
    Bruno(c), Salah, Jota, Lingard, son
    Iheanacho, kane

    Forster, Rudiger, Davis, Amartey

    1ft 0.2 itb

    A) Use FH now and ride out out GW 36
    B) Son and Amartey > Greenwood and Shaw -4.

Would you do Kane and Maddison to Watkins and Salah for a -4 for this DGW?

I wonder if we’ll see a 200 point gameweek this week. It has the potential. I think I remember being in the 160s one year with a DGW BB, but now I say it out loud sounds too good to be true!

100 always seems a dead cert on DGW doesn’t it, then it’s either an anti climax or you just scrape it

200 would be an unreal score

Could you help with my defender dilemma above please

    What happens if:
    - Chelsea ends up 5th and qualifies by winning the CL.
    - Arsenal wins Europa.

Does this mean 6 English teams in the CL?

If Utd win the Europa or City win the UCL I thought that meant 5th place qualifies for the UCL too

Might be 6 teams or this yeah, they change these rules often but I know at least 5 teams are possible.

Imagine West Ham come 4th and this happens. Happened to Tottenham when Chelsea won it last.

Best DGW defender sub 4.6? Only option seems to be Ward. Unfortunately 0.1 off Konsa

I think I’d go Ward over Konsa regardless of the missing 0.1

What's the best use of FH and WC? FH 35?

    Here's my GW35 team. 2 FTs. 1.0 ITB.

    Martinez
    TAA / Shaw / Holding*
    Salah / Bruno / Greenwood / Jota / Lingard
    Kane / Ihenacho

    Sanchez // Dunk / Dallas / Bamford

    A) Bamford > Watkins
    B) Bamford/Dunk > DCL/4.8m
    C) Bamford/Holding > DCL/Mitchell

GW36 is looking tricky. Assuming I'll sell one of Bruno/Greenwood + either Holding/Ihenacho.

B is preferred due to DCL, but will have to take a -4 to field XI next week (and I'm not sure the 4.8m will keep a CS...)

C helps the XI but not sure about Mitchell.

Also, would you play Kane or Lingard this week?

      13 / 15 with BB

      Next week field 9 or 10 with a -4 or -8

    A) play Coufal, Dunk on bench
    B) Dunk > Lindehof (-4), play ahead of Coufal
