FPL team reveals: My 3-5-2 draft with triple Liverpool, double West Ham and Toney

There is one thing this game can never take from us and that is the hope that comes with Gameweek 1. The new season is upon us and with very little time to go, I thought it would be a good time to share my current draft. I do want to mention that it is very much a work in progress and I don’t know where I will land when the deadline on Friday finally arrives.  

Before we move into my draft, I did a fair bit of contemplation over the summer after my disaster of a season last year where I finished at 678,991 in the world.

Those of you that have read my previous articles know that I do like to take a few punts with my captaincies in an attempt to make huge gains in rank. What I did during the break was look back at my previous campaigns and one thing that stood out to me was that most of my captaincy calls where I went against the crowd came through mainly after Gameweek 10 and primarily in the second half of the season.

I had a very poor start last year and never really recovered from it. This is playing at the back of my mind and while I build my Gameweek 1 team, I want to make sure I’m not taking a lot of risks early season (especially with captaincy) and will do so once I have seen enough games and processed enough data. That is when the subconscious really starts acting and I want to continue playing the game I like to play. That is, at least, the thinking at the moment.

Right then, let us get into the team.

    If you're worried about making a bad start then the simple play is just choose the most selected players within budget. Something like:

    Sanchez
    TAA - Dias - Shaw - Digne
    Salah - Fernandes - Grealish - Raphinha
    Watkins - Toney

    Foster - White - Bissouma - Obafemi

        Very topical question im sure but have city any guaranteed starters for first 5 gameweeks? KDB, Mahrez Greahlish, Sterling?

          KDB injured, Sterling had late holidays due to Euros. At the moment - only Mahrez appears to be nailed on for the first couple of GWks. Grealish should start as well, given Foden's injury.

          So I've just seen Pranil's team in the article above and mine and his are the exact same, even down to the bench! What are the chances of that even happening? I know that realistically, there is a pool of about 50-ish players that we would all consider atm, but still.

          And just so we are clear, I have not intentionally copied Lateriser's team. I finalised my draft yesterday.

            Thoughts are to see how transfer market goes (Lukaku, Kane etc) then downgrade Greenwood/ Mahrez and upgrade Ings/Antonio.

            Nice team! Very similar to my draft. I find this just a tad stronger, but I do miss Mahrez.

              I'm not convinced that Gundo at 7.5m can't keep up with Mahrez. And I'm gonna keep 0.5m so I can swap him for Grealish once G gets in the team.

                          It really depends.
                          Hasenhüttl usually likes to give his signings time to adapt and learn his system.

                          I think with this one though there may be the aim for him to hit the ground running.

                  It is a straight cash deal, Obafemi is not included. The deal will not rise above £15m.
                  Southampton have also got an offer on the table for Chelsea's Armando Broja.

                  Gundo over Greenwood? Gundo was on lots of set pieces and is very nailed considering City's injury problems.

                    Cheers. Yeah I think Gundo is the better option and was impressed with how involved he was on Saturday. He's got a tougher fixture and Greenwood should be nailed and fancy United to go all guns blazing. Also going to the game and that's influencing my decision. Pencilling in Greenwood -> Gundogan GW2.

                Does now not seem like a good opportunity to get on city assets ?

                KDB and foden out,Kane deal stalling, Silva and Jesus on the way out, Norwich in GW2.

                The likes of Torres, Sterling, Gundo, Mahrez have a huge chance to start at least the first 3 games.

                Value too good to pass up imo.

                  The other argument is that they started last season poorly because they had no rhythm/preseason. 7th place after the first 8 games.

                  So it might be worth waiting until they are more settled.

                  But yes, I do think Gundo and Mahrez are nailed for the short term with Torres and Sterling having big parts to play.
