Tips and advice from the Fantasy Premier League world number two

In our latest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) video of the November international break, Az chats to the current world number two Oscar – aka FPL Focal – about his triumphant season to date.

Oscar can be found profiling some of the greatest FPL managers of all time over on his YouTube channel but is in with a shout of achieving something special himself in 2021/22, sitting just three points behind Daniel Masson-Abraham in first place.

Oscar discusses his spectacularly successful decision to Bench Boost in Gameweek 11, the result of which catapulted him from 323rd to a podium place.

Luck versus skill is debated as Oscar talks us through his season history, while thoughts on his Gameweek 12 set-up and future plans – including what to do with the misfiring Ivan Toney (£6.7m) – are also discussed.

You can watch the interview via the embedded video below or over on our YouTube channel.

You guys think Origi will get more game time soon with Firmino out and both Salah and Mané heading to AFCON soon???
Came on last game and scored…

There are 10 gameweeks between now and then.

There's only been 11 so far.

He was given a shot last game and returned. If Jota keeps being wasteful I think Origi might get some minutes

I think it’s highly possible that he gets more game time with Firmino out and if Jota isn’t performing.

At 4.9 when strikers aren’t performing is tempting if he starts to get some minutes. I’m a bit put off by Jota although I know he can return he has been wasteful and if Origi starts getting minutes that would mean money itb and an extra midfield slot for someone else

Might be a bit early to expect any sort of regular minutes, but this could be a good time to buy low before ownership picks up after boxing day. It will be really interesting to see how Klopp plays for several gameweeks without Salah and Mane

If you’re looking for a low priced forward and playing a 442 or 352 you could do worse unless you really need the .5 over Davis

I am leaning towards wanting to play 3-5-2 or 4-4-2. And his transfers in are starting to pick up already. It is definitely a bit too early, I’m definitely not expecting any sort of regular minutes just yet but on my mind

It’s a good shout, I’m in the same boat wanting to switch to a 352 and bring in Cancelo and downgrade Toney was going to go Broja but now considering Origi

Then just before last Gameweek ended, clawed some dignity back to 1.3m OR, very early days, hell of a long way to go get, all you need is two solid GW's and ya back in the game man.

there is hope … I was 3.2 million at GW1 and 2.5 million at GW2 and have now clawed my way back to 500k.

Just keep doing the basics, be sensible, don’t be afraid to change things up and take the odd hit (5 so far for me) and really attack the fixtures rather than hold players (Salah, TAA & Cancelo the exceptions)

Yeah I’m just biased, I’m sure Benteke has good stats but he never really passes the eye test for me, he’s so wasteful. He’s definitely a bully who gets in the mix against teams that sit deep but in a more open game I think he gets lost.

Armstrong or Edouard excite me more in that price bracket

Can’t argue with those stats, they’ve got great fixtures and I’ve watched their last several games, I’m impressed at how well they play, aggressive and well organized

Bit late to the conversation but since it seems like we are the only 2 here considering Benteke I wanted to drop in a quick line of support.

Recent stats are very encouraging & I think he could be a great differential over the next few weeks. Maybe Zaha is the slightly better Palace option but there's so many mids I want & no other obvious Toney replacement. Hoping for a full-on Tekkers renaissance under Viera but I'll settle for anything more than Toney's relentless 2pt-ers

a playing bench is one thing but every week you are benching 3 of Livra
Gallagher ESR Hwang A.Armstrong … that is too much money imho

If I was WCing and using your template I would have something like this
          Guaita Foster
          TAA Chilwell Cancelo Livra 4.5/Mitchell
          Salah Son Foden Gallagher/ESR 4.5/McArthur
          Antonio Hwang 7.5

A bench from week to week of 3 from Livra, McArthur, Mitchell, Hwang or ESR - pretty strong

Happy with my team, but really want to get Vardy out and invest into midfield, - 1.0m ITB, 2FT

    Pick one:
    1) Vardy + Mbuemo + Normann --> Davis + Jota + Foden (3-5-2)
    2) Vardy + Mbuemo + Norman —> Armstrong/Hwang + Foden + Jota

Basically weighing up whether to go for a stronger bench with Armstrong/Hwang or to keep more in the bank for further weeks

    Rest:
    Ramsdale
    TAA / Cancelo / Chillwell
    Salah / Son / Mbuemo / Raphinha
    Antonio / Toney / Vardy

I’d make a list of who you want the most and then who you want to get rid of the most.

For me the first list would be - Gallagher, Jota, Son, Cornet, ESR, Kane, Wilson
The second list would be - Brownhill, Mbeumo, Toney, Vardy, Antonio.

So if you can do Brownhill > Gallagher then great, but that seems silly given bench headaches. So I’d do
Mbeumo > Gallagher and then going down the list the next possible might be Vardy > Kane but I don’t like that myself.

Mbeumo > Gallagher - and roll the second.
You got a real strong team

      Like A.
Baby steps are good - you might miss a jump on Spurs players but I think overcommitting would be worse than one week late (also Leeds haven’t let in more than 1 goal in 6 weeks).

I know there’s a bit of difference between their prices but on face value who would be the better pick for the next 6 weeks or so out of Foden and Son. I really am in two minds.

Impossible to say without a crystal ball. Historically Son because he is more nailed but City can thrash teams in a way that Spurs cam not.

      Get them both 😉

Next 4 of 6 for City at home, Foden seems in better form, if you have the bench to cover the occasional benching even if there’s a cameo there’s a potential for points.

    Vardy Mbeumo & Raph ➡️
    Wilson Son & Foden -8 ?

    A) Yes
    B) No
    C) just -4 for either Son or Foden

      For C I mean

      Wilson + Foden -4
      Or
      Wilson + Son -4

    2. Eh, just one more thing ...

I think a -8 is just too much to remove 3 nailed players to replace them with an injury risk, a top player (to be fair) in a struggling team with a new manager, and a rotation risk.

This is a smart way to think about it.
-4 with Foden, keeping Raphinha is what I might prefer if you really want a hit.
But i don’t get the love for Wilson. Newcastle have been garbage.

Which order would you have this bench?

    A) Duffy, Sarr, Broja
    B) Sarr, Duffy, Broja

    1. RogDog_jimmy

      A.
I really like Broja but the chances of a 1 pt cameo seem very high right now.
I think there’s a good chance Duffy keeps a CS - I’m trying to find a way to start him myself.

Got some questions about starters and bench order.
    Anything anyone would change?

    Ramsdale (liv)
Chillwell (lei), Azpi (lei), Cancelo (EVE), Livramento (nor)
Salah (ARS), Jota (ARS), Gallagher (bur), Raphinha (tot)
    Antonio (wol), Jimenez (WH)

Foster (MUN), Duffy (AVL), Vardy (CHE), Brownhill (CRY)

Who would you loose of these two this GW for Foden? (*the other one will go next GW for Jota)

    A: Mbeumo
B: Raphinha (will come back a few GWs later)

Could Spurs keep a clean sheet?
On form it's Raphinha to keep but Mbeumo could easily outscore him.

I’ve got both and want rid of both. Mbeumo im bitterly disappointed with especially after that NOR game and I have Toney anyway. Raphinha can’t keep carrying the team. His last goal was lucky, Leeds suck and if Conte focuses on defence first Spurs could keep a clean sheet anyway then Brighton away after won’t be easy then CRY who have been great defensively.

Guys I need more opinions please

Vardy ➡️ Wilson (I’m not benching 10.6m nor am I playing him against Chelsea)

Mbeumo ➡️ Gallagher (I have Toney)

    Raph/Mount ➡️ Son

1FT so the three for -8

I guess it depends on the rest of your team but I very much doubt I’d take a -8. Sounds like you’ve already decided on the first one but I wouldn’t be so quick to bench Vardy. I’d probably prioritise the third one and not take any hit but maybe you need the funds from Vardy to do this?

      1. FantasyClub

Yes to get Son I must take a hit. Or I can do Vardy straight to Kane but I’m not confident in Kane

Ok. Without seeing your team I can’t be sure but if you don’t want Kane then I think getting rid of one of your Brentford players for free might be the best bet else save your transfer and re assess next game week

I think your team is strong enough for this week to save a transfer (barring any injuries). Maybe keep an eye out for early team news and if Mount isn’t starting then you could sell for Jota.

I’d like to hear why Raph is not worth trading? Don’t you think his goal was lucky last GW and that Leeds aren’t playing great? Also his fixtures aren’t great at all tbh…

I don’t think there is a better set and forget midfielder in that price bracket which is the reason I won’t be selling (unless injured). I also have Vardy but i don’t see him as a long term pick at this price so id be far more likely to sell him rather than Raphinha.

Morning dzzz, thoughts on the following dilemma?

    A: Son + Jota (-4) with £ for Toney > Wilson
    B: Son + Wilson...Jimmy > Jota (-4) in 13
    C: Kane + Mbeumo + Wilson
    D: Kane + Mbeumo + Jota (-4)

    Thoughts?

Not that easy to understand your options but I don’t like Mbeumo so that narrows it down to A or B. Is the only difference that A has Jota and Toney this week whereas B has Jimmy and Wilson but both are the same next week and both cost -4 over the 2 weeks? If so then A.

appy with my team, but really want to get Vardy out and invest into midfield, - 1.0m ITB, 2FT

    Pick one:
    1) Vardy + Mbuemo + Normann --> Davis + Jota + Foden (3-5-2)
    2) Vardy + Mbuemo + Norman —> Armstrong/Hwang + Foden + Jota

Basically weighing up whether to go for a stronger bench with Armstrong/Hwang or to keep more in the bank for further weeks

    Rest:
    Ramsdale
    TAA / Cancelo / Chillwell
    Salah / Son / Mbuemo / Raphinha
    Antonio / Toney / Vardy

    Foster, Livramento, Normann, Obamadele.

Honestly can’t decide between Kane and Son so might just go without both for now and move out Sarr for Jota

    Gives me

    Sanchez Steele
    Taa Cancelo Chilwell Livramento Azpi
    Salah Raphinha Jota Mbeumo Brownhill
    Toney Jiminez Kane

    Gw13 Mbeumo to ESR
    Gw14 Jiminez to Wilson
    Gw15 Azpi & Vardy to Reguillon & Kane (C)
    Gw16 Wildcard

        Why?

Leeds have completely shut up shop the last 6 weeks:

        Last 5 gameweeks goals conceded:
        Chelsea - 2
        Arsenal - 3
        Leeds - 4
Man City, West Ham, Palace, Southampton 5

Throw in the fact that Spurs couldn’t score furniture with a chainsaw at the minute & I’m thinking GW12 is going to be very interesting for Spurs attack

              Interesting points

I think it’s just hope at the moment when it comes to Spurs, new manager, excellent fixtures, get on board the train before it leaves.

I'd look at it more as Leeds being the second attempt at starting the train (Everton was the first, and it stalled miserably, must have been a flat battery or something)

If the engine manages to fire up vs Leeds, then we can start to hop on board before it warms up to leave the station

But if it stalls again I'll leave it sitting on the platform with its passengers fidgeting & complaining about how unreliable the trains are these days whilst Conte tinkers with the engine for another week or two
