Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 17?

Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) top-scorer Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) is once again the leading captaincy candidate, as Liverpool host Newcastle United in Gameweek 17.

There are some appealing matches elsewhere, however, with Manchester City up against Leeds United at the Etihad one stand-out fixture.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 17 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Tuesday’s 18:00 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

In a predictably one-sided captain poll, Mohamed Salah is the clear leader, having gained a whopping 73.33% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) sat in second before the postponement of Manchester United’s clash with Brentford, having been backed by 7.69% of FPL managers.

Bernardo Silva (£7.7m), Emmanuel Dennis (£5.8m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.1m) make up the rest of the top five, all tied on 3.08%.

MOHAMED SALAH AND TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Positive covid tests take more than 3 or 4 days to clear so any team with a cancelled game for Covid cases in the players, then another game 3 or 4 days later must be under a huge risk of the next game also being cancelled … imho

I would use that 0.9 to upgrade Allan and/or Manquillo to players you'd be happier coming on.

Bit confused about the best moves here, as doubts about whether DDG & Vardy will play:

    DDG

    Alonso - James - TAA
    ESR - Jota - Bernardo - Salah
    Antonio - Dennis - Vardy

    Steele - Liva - Allan - Cancelo

Made a knee jerk transfer, Vardy for Ronaldo and now panicking that the Utd game is looking to be postponed.

    Sanchez / Carson
    TAA / Dias / R.James / Dalot / Williams
    Salah / Bilva / Jota / Bowen / Norman
    Ronaldo / Pukki / Dennis

    1.5 itb.
Considering Norman for either Jorginho or Odegaard.

Getting a little fed up with clubs going on about personal safety of players re Covid when there is a minority who could not be bothered to get vaccinated. If you did not want the vaccination, you accept the risks from not having it. Listening to Conte in his press conference was a bit of joke when many folk on the minimum wage have had to carry on.

I had sympathy when the vaccine was not available last year, but when you get paid a hundred grand a week for the priviledge of being a proffessional sports person, unless you have a very good excuse, get the vaccine.

I agree. Those who are not vaccinated without reason good enough should take responsibility for their actions. Now others are paying the cost and lives are lost. However, at least the biggest Norwegian antivaccine dude didn't go to hospital because of the "flu". Gimmick is paying the price with his lungs now and regrets his mistake. Time will tell if he will ever get full recovery. Probably, but it isn't certain and may take half a year.

It's still a personal choice and it should be for everyone. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people unable to say f off to employers unlawfully forcing vaccines on their employees. The only difference is that one, players can say f off. CR7 always refused to get it, now what?

Nailed. They can play the same position and if Odegaard plays badly, ESR can play there instead of him. However, it's Odegaard's spot to lose rn + ESR played most of his games on the wing this season - partly indeed because Arteta wanted to play someone else down the middle, be it Odegaard or Laca+Auba. Next 3-4 would say Odegaard 100%

Thanks for the point on Zinchenko, think I'll hope for a 30 minute Foden explosion or the false 9 position. The issue is De Bruyne will probably start where Silva has played quite a lot, so Silva might need to be pushed up or De Bruyne plays Gundo's role.
