Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 17?

Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) top-scorer Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) is once again the leading captaincy candidate, as Liverpool host Newcastle United in Gameweek 17.

There are some appealing matches elsewhere, however, with Manchester City up against Leeds United at the Etihad one stand-out fixture.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 17 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Tuesday’s 18:00 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

In a predictably one-sided captain poll, Mohamed Salah is the clear leader, having gained a whopping 73.33% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) sat in second before the postponement of Manchester United’s clash with Brentford, having been backed by 7.69% of FPL managers.

Bernardo Silva (£7.7m), Emmanuel Dennis (£5.8m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.1m) make up the rest of the top five, all tied on 3.08%.

      I wouldn't take -4 for a bench player. Lesson learned last week, sold ESR for Bowen and started him, cost so far 13 pts and I would prefer ESR over Bowen this gw. Stupid of me.

      Do you have money? If not, you have to downgrade someone. Antonio to Dennis/King and Mendy to Bowen (Gallagher / øde) if affordable? Sideways, but Bowen is cheaper than Antonio at least. Or get someone else now and sell the injured / ill mid for him later?

      Don’t think Zinchenko starting precludes Foden form starting. I’ve only seen it stated that Pep’s preference is to have at least one left-footer on the left, not that he only wants one left-footer on the pitch at a time. With Zinchenko starting, it frees up both Bilva and Foden to play elsewhere on the pitch, in addition to on the left, so I wouldn’t let that scare you off, mate.

      Salah has been rested before, but I have a feeling that Klopp isn't happy about Afcon and is not going to rest him. Salah is also physically strong and when was he injured last time? So I believe that he will at least start.

      you are over thinking it, Klopp will be planning for today and not tomorrow so just start & captain him - he will get a rest when the season is suspended over Christmas during the inevitable lockdown when cases hit 100k a day and most clubs have 5 or 6 cases of Omicron 🙂
