Scout Picks - Bus Team

FPL Double Gameweek 26 Scout Picks early selection: Arsenal and Liverpool triple-ups

We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Double Gameweek 26 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

This is a new feature we first rolled out earlier in February and it’s essentially a first draft of our regular XI, partly in response to feedback from some users who wanted certain articles to be available sooner in the week.

The Scout Picks widget on the home page is generally only in use for a very short space of time (one or two days a week, at most) and becomes largely redundant once the deadline passes, so this new article strand will also hopefully give it a bit more shelf-life.

The pre-deadline picks will stay as they are and cement our weekly selection based on the Scout Squad long-list entries, midweek European action/minutes and fresh injury updates but this ‘bus team’ – a rather macabre term coined by the Always Cheating boys, as it’s the XI you set at the start of the week in case you get hit by a bus before the deadline – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

Here it is, then: our early, rambling thoughts on the runners and riders up for selection in Gameweek 26, followed by the preliminary picks themselves.

THE LIKELY LADS

Who is the best third Liverpool asset to own during AFCON? 2

The Scout Picks is, in essence, a ‘Free Hit’ XI for the upcoming Gameweek and there’s a touch of irony in that six of our bus team are all names who would be jettisoned on an actual Free Hit team in Gameweek 27.

Yes, we’re talking about players from Arsenal and Liverpool, who have two fixtures in Gameweek 26 before blanking the following weekend.

Both teams play twice at home in Gameweek 26 and the matches themselves are the best of the lot from the eight teams who double, so there is a reasonable shout for triple-ups on both sides.

We’ll not waste time on explaining why Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) or Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) feature; only a midweek injury will likely persuade us to reconsider.

Who takes the coveted third Liverpool slot is another topic altogether, with the in-form Andrew Robertson (£7.1m) averaging 7.9 points per match over his last 10 appearances and Diogo Jota (£8.5m) bagging 15 attacking returns in 19 starts this season. “Starts” is an important word there, however: with Jurgen Klopp having a fully fit squad at his disposal, and with a Champions League tie and an EFL Cup final sandwiching Double Gameweek 26, it wouldn’t be a shock to see a degree of rotation from the Reds’ boss against Norwich and/or Leeds. Virgil van Dijk (£6.7m), then, might be worth consideration given that he hasn’t had a single Premier League benching in any of the last four seasons.

As for the Gunners, the initial thought is towards a defensive double-up: Brentford have scored just five goals in their last nine matches, while Wolves have the division’s third-lowest goals tally – although they have perked up recently with eight goals in their last five fixtures.

Kieran Tierney’s (£5.1m) points-per-match (PPM) average is one of the best among FPL defenders this season (5.5), while no first-choice Premier League goalkeeper can better Aaron Ramsdale‘s (£5.1m) own PPM. Ramsdale is probably the stand-out goalkeeper choice in isolation but competition is fierce between the sticks this week, with the likes of Nick Pope (£5.4m) and Jose Sa (£5.2m) very much in the running.

Wolves have the second-best defensive record in the division this season, while Burnley have conceded just three goals in Pope’s last seven matches between the posts.

Evening all.I am trying to decide if it's worth to use my first FH in gw27 or keep it for later.
I guess this decision depends on the same thing for most of us.How many Arsenal players i will choose to have at gw26.
But even if you don't choose to have 2 or 3 Arsenal players the main question for me is:
Are there any players in gw27 that you don't own and could hurt/or could improve your rank?
Looking at my team,i think there are.
-At first 3 Burnley players with a dgw.Pope,Cornet,Weghorst.
-Broja vs Norwich at home(instead of Dennis away to Man Utd)could be an excellent pick.
    -Son/Kane vs Leeds.
    -Raphinha vs Tottenham.
    -Digne+Coutinho
    -Ronaldo/Bruno vs Watfors at home.
-Triple up on Man City only for this gw could be a huge boost.
    -Maddison
    -Edouard/Gallagher
    Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

Definitely wouldnt triple Burnley on FH, one at most
Broja, JWP and Maddison are in my team for sure
Son or Kane, Bruno or Ronaldo + triple City are the premiums

    Ramsdale - DDG
    TAA - Tierney - Cancelo - Digne - Coufal
    Jota - Bruno - Bowen - Foden - Gray
    Watkins - Dennis - King

    Best option?

    A) Bruno > Salah

    B) Gray & Watkins > Salah & 4.4 FWD (-4)

            What's your thinking?

For me, I like the look of GW26 fixtures more than GW30 so want to make the most of those and get Arsenal assets in for GW26 and then GW28 onwards.

            1. thegaffer82
              • 12 Years

Well yeah, GW26 fixtures are massively better than GW30 ones.
But my thinking is that my team looks decent for both 26 (8 DGWers) and 27 (can field 11 no hit). So no need to ‘waste’ a FH.
GW30 is going to involve very few games & not the best teams/players involved.
So building for / dead ending into GW30 is going to involve me buying bad players from rubbish teams and may affect my score before and after GW30.
I’d rather just use up a FH and largely ignore GW30

That makes a lot of sense re: having to react to GW30 with transfers/hits. Sounds like a good strategy! Hope it pays off for you!

Depends on your team but Wolves and arsenal have great fixtures in and around gw30 and a double this week. If you bring those guys in then you’re well covered for gw30 and given it’ll be low scoring I think there’s limited upside using FH in 30 over 27

I was wavering already between FH and TC for this coming week. The fact I only have 2 of the "bus" team makes this harder for me still, especially as I don't have Salah. I need a hit to get Salah thanks to price rises.

I have some DGWers who frankly aren't exciting (eg Davies, King) but would be passable players in GW27.

I'm wondering if the upside of 9 or so good DGWers is higher than the benefit of a FH in 27 and the extra Salah points.

    Anyone else wavering??

I’m looking to rebuild my squad before wildcarding after gw30. Can you give me guidance on the following questions please? Many thanks in advance.

1). Leaving players from City, Liverpool and Chelsea which team do you think will have the best defensive record between now and gw38?

2). Which players do you therefore think would be your top goalkeeper and defender picks between now and gw38?

Remember when you were considering Watford assets prior to those double GWs? King, Dennis, Pedro etc.. and they bombed so badly you actually still shed a tear over them and actually still have them in your squad.

Burnley is now that same situation. A horrible, horrible side, arguably worse than Watford and yet you're considering loading up with their garbage too. I'm avoiding like the plague.

If we trust Burnley's defense, how come Spurs assets Son/Kane are rated so highly here? They play their double vs MCI and Bur. Taking hits on them scoring and Burnley keeping cs isn't likely going to end well?

This. I still think Burnley defence will leak goals

Spurs are still a good attacking side. Both Kane and Son had decent chances against Wolves. I do think Burnley's defence are a bit more solid in recent games

    Ramsdale ddg
    Laporte cancelo taa dias christensen
    Jota salah bowen coutinho zaha
    Antonio broja dennis

Thinking of doing christensn -> tierney and antonio -> jiminez/lacazette for a -4. Pkus, thinking of bench boost. What are your thoughts?

Those are good transfers. Tough call on the forward.

Hmm would probably TC Salah over BB.

Look at each move in isolation so it's a - 4. Wolves have a double, play in blanks 27 & 30 so you should make the hit back pretty quickly

Burnley v Leicester s currently the only addition to GW27 - is it too late for more to be added?

Otherwise there doesn't seem to be much of a case for FH27 - it might be better to FH26 and just bench Liverpool players in GW27?

(I don't have any Chelsea or Arsenal except Ramsdale)

Am I missing something obvious please?

    Thanks for your input 🙂

FH26 = no TC Salah, which is where a lot of people's thinking seems to be.

Most people are going to triple up Arsenal and Liverpool for GW26, so pretty hard to bench 6 players

But If I FH I'd bring in 3 x Arsenal plus others who have DGWs.

But the point about not being able to TC Salah is a problem

obviously team dependent, but is this the best time to FH for your team? I also wouldnt FH just to get triple Arsenal.

Also, what does your team look like for 27? Are you going to have the big players for that GW? Players like Son, Kane, Bruno, Ronaldo, triple City, and differentials like JWP Maddison Broja Jimenez will make make the difference.

      Oof tough calls.

Without knowing the rest of your team, I'd say A

Very similar choice to me except I’m not considering Ramsdale (have Loris).
Really torn between Saka & Tierney.
The sensible move is Tierney for my team I think, as I’d be benching Antonio v Newcastle at home if I bring in Saka. And that’ll be for a hit.
It’s all team dependent but I’d go Tierney

If you get Ramsdale in, who's your keeper for GW27?

I'd probably go B, but it depends on your keeper for GW27.

What to do with Regulion? Spurs awful, he’s started 1 in last 3 but need to field as many DGW players as possible.

I think he's gotta go. Planning to sell him for Tierney for -4. That means selling Jota next week or being down to 10 men next week though.

GTG here or Antonio to Jimenez and bench Reguilon?

    Foster
    TAA/Tierney/Ait-Nouri/Reguilon
    Salah(tc)/Bruno/Jota/Bowen
    Dennis/King
    (DDG/Antonio/Ramsey/Coufal)

I only have TAA, Jota and White from Liverpool & Arsenal.

If I FH this week 26 (missing out on Salah TC, I then get this team in 27 with no hits or FH, and can WC in 28.

    DDG
    Davies Cancelo (Burnley Def)
    Maddison Foden Bowen Bruno
    Watkins King Eduoard.

Downside is the inability to TC Mo, and the inevitable price rises I miss. Really stumped.

    Best Ronaldo replacement for DGW:

    A Jimenez
    B Kane
C Lacazette (would have 6 players not playing gw27)
    D other

Switch to Tierney or wait for fitness news on Tomiyasu?

He's been out for ages can't see him starting both matches personality

Cancelo vs Reguillon this week isn’t an easy decision. Is Reguillon likely to play two games? Owning Kane I’d love City to concede. Also Cancelo gains me no ground at all (of course if hurts me if I don’t play though).

    Tough one

Spurs defence is all at sea. Sessegnon was the fall guy yesterday when it more about the change of shape, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was given another run out soon.

      I'd play Cancelo.

    What would you do here?
CR7 & Soucek to Kane & Saka (-4) or something else?

    (1FT & 0.4itb)
    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo White
    Bowen Soucek Jota Salah
    Dennis King CR7

    (Sanchez Maguire Trossard Manquillo)
