Weghorst and Broja in, no Free Hit: How I’m planning to navigate FPL Gameweek 27

As I write this, we’re 10 games into Double Gameweek 26 with another four still to come, and I sit 51,875th overall in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

The last couple of rounds have been a bit of a slog – mainly Gameweek 24 when I opted to captain Harry Kane (£12.2m) over Diogo Jota (£8.4m) – but after picking up 71 (-4) points so far this week, it at least feels like we’re moving in the right direction again.

The plan had always been to Triple Captain Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) against Norwich City/Leeds United and use my second Free Hit in Blank Gameweek 30. However, I’m still debating the latter, given that only three fixtures are currently guaranteed to take place:

  • Aston Villa v Arsenal
  • Leicester City v Brentford
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers v Leeds United

That could perhaps rise to four if West Ham United beat Southampton in the FA Cup, which in turn would allow Burnley v Southampton to be added, but either way, I have a feeling I will gain more by saving it for the run-in.

Wildcarding ahead of Double Gameweek 26 was a really popular move in the community, and I can see why, but the key to that approach was loading up on Liverpool and Arsenal assets, then Free Hitting in Gameweek 27.

Having already used my first Free Hit in Gameweek 19, that was never really an option for me, but if anything, it has been really cool seeing some alternative chip strategies out there, which definitely shakes things up and makes the game more interesting.

With so many Free Hits flying around, getting through Gameweek 27 with minimal damage is my next challenge. For context, here’s how I’m currently set-up with one free transfer and £0.3m in the bank.

Immediately, I have a few issues which you can see, and it’s highly likely I’ll have to take a -4 or -8 to remain competitive.

    Used FH this week so looking at a hit or two to keep up and field 11. WC in 28. Would you do:

    A. Jota & Antonio -> Son & Broja (-4)
    B. Gray & Ronaldo -> Weghorst & Son (-4)
    C. B + Jota -> Mahrez/Foden (-8)

    A fields 11 with Gray 1st Sub. B fields 11 with no subs. C fields 11 with Trossard first sub.

          I do expect a bit of rotation given Saints schedule, yeah, but the fixtures are so good, even if he sits out one he should still do well.

      Regulion possible blank but otherwise a reasonable team. Watkins or King out for a hit would be sensible. Have you made a move already which is why 3 is a hit?

      Probably not if you're willing to use a FT to lose one of those benched players (Saka to Mahrez/Foden?). Otherwise a Watford forward to Broja/Weghorst is probably a good move to save the Fh

      I assume he isn't touching Kane which means he doesn't have the funds to get Jiminez without downgrading elsewhere (at at least the cost of a hit). I think Jiminez is a reasonable selection, but I wouldn't take a hit for him

      I think both B and C would pay off so depends what you are doing in future weeks. Wouldn't do B if you want to attack Watford's double and wouldn't do C if you want to keep Arsenal players

    Interesting to see that the OP Tom Freeman is planning to get rid of Dennis and King for a hit this GW despite Watford having a DGW28, because I'm in a similar position.

    A) Dennis and King to Weghorst and Broja for a hit.
    B) King to Weghorst for free (then switch to Jimenez for GW28)
    C) King to Broja for free (then get Saka for Cornet with GW28 FT)

    Have you considered a WC this week, Tom?

    Seems a decent opportunity. You field a slightly weaker team this week, BB28 and then aim to navigate GW30 and FH36.

    It's probably a bit against your style but I think that's what I'd do with that team. I don't think that team is very strong for GW28 either.

              If your team is bad for GW28, then a FH doesn't really change much. You take hits and then WC28 or else take advantage and WC now.

      I've got a very similar team to Tom (Son, Watkins, Cornet instead of Kane, Countino, Luiz), and am thinking that 6 DGW28ers is enough, given that none of the top 6, and only 1 of the top 9 in the PL double that GW.

    What is everyone's thoughts on captaincy this week?

    1)Simply captain a double gameweeker like Weghorst/Pope? Can we trust the likes of Burnley?

    2) The likes of Kane or Son vs a leaky Leeds side

    3) Take a punt on a City attacker, Mahrez/Sterling/KDB?

    I'm currently leaning toward Sterling. I feel like he has the highest potential vs a weak Everton side. Just hope I don't get a taste of Pep roulette and get a 20 min cameo.

    I don't trust Burnley for any consistent returns, so even with the 2 games I will be happy enough just owning them

    I've decided to lose Ronaldo this week, he's had enough chances and I do think he'll be rested if plays against Atletico

    Based on this, should I bring in Kane, Weghorst or Broja? I'm thinking Kane. My other 2 strikers are Dennis & King, so I could do -4 but if I bring in Kane I'll only have funds for Broja.

      Weghorst & Kane , though Im without Kane. Oh I see it's one or the other . Tough as I think the Wegman gonna outscore Kane this gw but then you need to be able to bench going forward whereas Kane starts everytime

        This is my issue. I was bringing in Weg last week but thought I'd sit on it, now I could have missed the boat as per. Whereas Kane is proven and could be back. Ideally yeah I'd like both but the only way to do that is -8 and I think that's too much where my close ML rivals will probably FH this week

        Kane has Leeds. Could do very well
        Weg has Palace (low scoring game I imagine) & Leicester (could do well)

      Kane & Broja are great for the foreseeable. Weghorst a nice option this week but dont let him get in the way of Kane
