FPL top 10k: Chip usage and players owned for Blank Gameweek 30

Using LiveFPL’s vast array of tools, we look at the squad make-ups and chip usage of the world’s leading Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

We will examine the 1,000 names in LiveFPL’s ‘Legendary Managers’ list – the historic cream of the crop, much like our own Hall of Fame – but chiefly those in the top 10k in the current overall rankings.

Between the two groups (where there will of course be some overlap), these are the managers who can offer us a better gauge of FPL ownership and chip strategy, as opposed to the overall figures that are skewed by the growing number of untouched ‘ghost teams’.

There is heaps of useful information beyond overall and top 10k figures on the LiveFPL site, of course, such as ownership stats for different rank tiers.

TOP 10K AND ‘ELITE’ MANAGERS: GAMEWEEK 29 CAPTAINCY

Above: Gameweek 29 captaincy stats for the top 10k (left) and the all-time greats (right)

Let’s get the easy bit out of the way first: after a wide-open captaincy race and a polarising set of scores in Gameweek 28, the vast majority of the leading managers handed the armband to Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) this time around.

Almost 98% of the FPL bosses who used their Triple Captain chip backed the Egyptian, unsurprisingly.

READ MORE: Everything Jurgen Klopp said about Mohamed Salah’s injury

TOP 10K: CHIP USAGE

There were a fair few Bench Boosts deployed in the top 10k this week but the Triple Captain was the most popular chip, with not far off one in four of the leading bosses using it.

Fewer than one in five FPL managers in the top 10,000 still have three or more chips to use, whilst not far off half (45.9%) have either maxed out their allocation or have only one chip remaining.

Bench Boosters have had a good start to the Gameweek, with Crystal Palace v Manchester City and six more ‘doublers’ to follow in the coming days.

TOP 10K AND ‘ELITE’ MANAGERS: TEMPLATE SQUAD FOR GAMEWEEK 29

While the ‘template’ goalkeepers and forward-line remained unchanged compared to Gameweek 28, there were a few notable tweaks elsewhere.

Andrew Robertson (£7.2m), Kieran Tierney (£5.1m) and especially Matt Doherty (£4.8m) all saw interest spike, with Lucas Digne (£5.1m), Joao Cancelo (£7.0m) and the injured Reece James (£6.2m) falling out of favour.

In midfield, the Spurs duo of Son Heung-min (£10.9m) and Dejan Kulusevski (£6.2m) came to the fore at the expense of Villa pair Jacob Ramsey (£4.8m) and Joao Coutinho (£7.4m).

OWNERSHIP STATS FOR THE 1,000 ‘LEGENDARY MANAGERS’ IN GAMEWEEK 29

TOP 10K: TEMPLATE WILDCARD SQUAD

The template Wildcard squad is unsurprisingly big on Gameweek 29 ‘doublers’: there are 10 of these players in total, with budget fillers accounting for the other five.

Gameweek 30 has also been factored in, with nine of this XV in action in the upcoming decimated round.

TOP 10K: AVERAGE NUMBER OF PLAYERS OWNED PER TEAM FOR BLANK GAMEWEEK 30

The average manager within the top 10k will likely require a hit or two to get a full playing XI out in Gameweek 30, although with only four fixtures to choose from, some FPL bosses may settle for 9 or 10 assets with an unaffected fixture.

The two north London clubs account for well over half of the 8.511 average, with Bukayo Saka (£6.6m) the most widely owned player.

Hmmm still no news on Salah. No news means bad news? Surely we’d have heard something by now?

This is the sort of thing you should try not to lose sleep over as an FPL manager.

It's completely out of our hands at this point. The deadline is passed and he blanks next week so he doesn't play for almost 3 weeks. Just forget about it. What will be, will be.

    Bottomed. Any thoughts please?

    A. Broja to £6.2m striker (no idea who however)
    B. Mount to Barnes/Maddison
    C. Mount to Martinelli (have Saka)

Did think about Mount & Broja to Laca and a £5.3m mid but can't be Martinelli (have 2 other arsenal) and don't want any of the others beyond 30 and think it's a waste to just make a switch for this week

Best striker up to 6.5 for the rest of the season?

Has to be Toney doesn't it?

Fixtures aren't great but you never know.

Really slim pickings with strikers this season.

If 2 players both have second FH but one have WC and BB as well, how many points would you say those 2 chips would be worth combined?

Say both are pretty much at template now and neither will use FH in 30.

Given one can spend the full money on the 11 and the other has to spend the budget on the 15, who knows. The big difference is the hits the non WC team needs to take but without fixtures, it's as long as a piece of string. If they FH in the same GW, you only get the advantage from the GW onwards plus a punt of 2 before WCing.

            WC onwards*

Making 50 points up with the 2 extra chips could be possible if BB is a big success in just the 2 chips GWs.

BB “should” be worth at least 32 points as the WC will be able to create 4 DGW bench boosters. The WC to enable better picks for the doubles without hits at least 20 points? 🙂

DGW fixtures might match their team nicely. They will have plenty of time to prepare if you both use FH in 33.

Hwang got a bang, on his back. Could be allright. Digne sounded like pretty much out, by Gerrard, but he said major doubt. Saka probably ok. Salah not in training but seems like reports says its a race against time. Bowen is out for indefinitive time. Usually when scans does not reveal anything yet the player cant have any weight bearing without pain, thats going to take a while. At best 2 april, worst, next year. Probably some where in between.

Not using FH this week and looking at a differential... hear me out here... how about Soyuncu?

I've got 1FT and I can either do a hokey cokey with Robbo or just keep Soy for a few weeks?

Leicester have kept two clean sheets in their last three matches (I know the defence has been poor for much of the season but..), they have three extra fixtures and, after Man Utd in 31, they have a nice run of fixtures.

Otherwise, it's Robbo to a Wolves defender or just save FT. Thoughts?

    Ramsdale
    White Doherty
    Saka Kulu Raphinha Ramsey
    Kane Jimenez

Last week VVD wasn't seen in training pics before the game and still started. I think Klopp and co. are still hopeful that he could be ready to play some part.

Team looks good. You can think longer term about who you'd want as Digne replacement as you dont really need an extra GW30 defender. If you want a 2nd Chelsea defender or something like that, I'd just roll FT. Wouldn't bother with Iheanacho as Vardy will be back soon and its hard to tell who starts out of Daka/Iheanacho

        Thanks MENA

I’ve used up my BB GW28 did ship out Cancelo for James but do plan to bring him back ! Was Thinking Digne to Amartey ( Fodder)
Also need to get rid off Broja and RAN (Upgrade) Cancelo

Will Roll transfer! My ML leader will play FH this week less damage ! But he’s got 2nd FH and WC left! I’m only 18 points ahead! In trouble already.

Sounds like it'll be close! Looking ahead, I'd consider downgrading Jimenez (maybe retiring 1 forward spot now that you've BBed) to get funds for Digne/RAN - Cancelo

My feeling, based on Conte history, is that he has made up his mind and Doherty stays in the team for the season. Just like Sessegnon but he got injured. And if anything, he just subs him after 70-75 if he needs to (if he needs rest).

One FH so no need to use it here is there?

    Sa
    Digne, Tierney, RAN,
    Son, Saka, Kulu, Ramsey
    Jiminez, Laca

    Sanchez, Rudiger, TAA, Salah, Broja

Digne a big doubt but tempted to gamble. The obvious move to me looks like Salah and Broja out for Kane and maybe Maddison/Barnes. Thoughts?

That's an aggressive move & could pay off if you plan to WC out of it, or have nothing else you want to do next week except Son - Salah. Team is very decent though so you don't necessarily have to make such a big play

The leader of my main ML has Coady's 14 points third on the bench, but because of Thiago Silva not playing, and Tsimikas probably neither, he'll get them in. Now that's jammy

    A. Jota to Barnes using FT. 7 players.
    B. Jota + Dennis > Barnes + Lacazetti for -4. 8 players.
    C. Jota + Dennis + Keane > Barnes + Lacazetti + Doherty for -8. 9 players.
    D. Take more hits to field 10 or 11 players

I guess the WC would be handy to rectify a couple things that are too low-impact to spend FTs on, like downgrading one of your keepers & maybe retiring a forward spot to generate funds for midfield upgrades. Not sure if that's enough reason by itself to WC though..?

    2. Tonyawesome69
      • 5 Years

Why WC in 31? You already have triple arsenal and spurs going forward and James (assuming fit). I don't see enough changes to warrant WC unless surprise fixtures in 33 (confirmed by 31)

Instead of targeting Leicester / Spurs / Arsenal, what do you think of this FH team with the talisman from each team to spread the risk:

    Schmeichel
    Saiss | Tierney | Doherty
    Barnes | Coutinho | Saka | Raphinha | Benrahma
    Kane (c) | Jimenez (vc)
    (Martinez | Toney | Coady | Dawson)

Did you watch the West Ham game? Is Benrahma their talisman? I do like the idea of including a WH mid but feel like maybe Fornals is the best option in Bowen's absence

      1. banskt
        • 10 Years

I would say, its a toss up between the two. Benrahma was down the left flank and Fornals on the right. Benrahma created a few more chances than Fornals.

    Thoughts on my FH draft?

    Sá // Raya
Ricardo Tierney Saïss // Reguilón Johnson
Son Coutinho Barnes Saka // Maddison
    Kane Lacazette Jiménez

      • 10 Years

Nice team, I like it. Seems like you are betting on Wolves clean sheet (double defense) and big wins from Spurs and Arsenal (both double attacks).

Do you think Ricardo Pereira, Reguilon and Johnson are the best "FPL" defenders from their respective teams?

      1. KieranKA
        • 2 Years
        2 years, 1 month ago

Not 100% certain. I went for Johnson because he's cheap – my squad value isn't great so the draft above only left 0.1 ITB.

I'm very iffy on Ricardo, I'd never have him in my regular team. But whenever I watch Leicester he seems to offer the most going forward and I can imagine him getting something vs. Brentford attack-wise. Castagne (injured) and Justin (low fitness) aren't likely to start over him, and Leicester need the points.

From a guy that stupidly took a hit to get in Dcl, dont get Ricardo, he just lets you down.
On a FH in this week, which is team dependent, i would if i did, take some gambles (in other words) going for some specific games and Results

      1. bench boost for every gamew…

As in go like all in for Wolves (or Leeds) all in for arsenal, and then for example not Coutinho but double Leicester mid.

So for instance, something like this?

          Sá // Raya
Tierney Saïss Coady // Johnson Amartey
Son Maddison Barnes Saka // Ramsey
          Kane(C) Lacazette Antonio

          1. bench boost for every gamew…
            • 7 Years
            2 years, 1 month ago

Yeh. But note, my taste in a FH in a small blank gw is to all in. You can do what you did in your first draft and do very well, a lot will have fewer players etc. To me its Just that to play opposite, like defender vs attackers, one will probably blank etc. But i have had a rival once, who had Aldeirwereld (goal), Alli (goal), and Alonso (2 goals) and i think Willian with an assist in a game Chelsea win 3-2.
