Meet the FPL Manager: Top 300 manager and captain picker extraordinaire

Joe chats to Chama, who is currently in the top 300 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after resolving to improve his captaincy picks.

Chama’s career history as an FPL manager was not that impressive ahead of the 2021/22 season. He knew he could never win the game with only a couple of top 50,000 overall finishes to his name since 2014.

That all changed this year when he focused his game on ensuring he had the best captain pick each week.

In the latest Meet the Manager video and podcast, Chama explains to Joe how he selects his armband candidates. This involves an intricate, evolving matrix plotting the teams with the best fixtures, top premium picks and worst defences to target.

Thanks to taking the time to look at captaincy strategy across the campaign he has achieved an incredible captaincy average better than the overall number one, which has propelled him to among the very highest rank places.

From Bruno Fernandes’ (£11.6m) early-season hauls to Son Heung-min‘s (£11.1m) recent 42-point haul in Gameweek 32, his captaincy picks have been exemplary.

Chama also takes some time to chat about his plans for Gameweek 33 and who will be handed the armband this time around.

Given his success so far, his selection is not to be missed ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Incredibly he still has not deployed his Triple Captaincy chip. He reveals which remaining set of fixtures he plans to use it as he attempts to climb even further up the rankings.

          Nacho definitely. Pereira has a lot of competition at full-back now with Castagne, Thomas, Justin all fit. Amartey and Albrighton can also play RB.

      I'd probably stick with that team. I'm not sure doubling up on Leicester, Newcastle, Burnley or United is going to provide many points. All teams out of form at the moment so the single week assets could easily get more points

    Hmm what to do.

    Fernandes has bitten me twice this season. Once when I didn’t own him (scoring twice at Villa) and once when I did (blank v Watford) I don’t want a repeat and Sancho seems poor so even though would cost me 4 points an option would be lose Sancho and captain Fernandes. Would the sell the following week for Son.

    Could just leave as is and captain Salah though.

      Similar position to me albeit you have also got your WC. As you replied to me you would be filling your team up with Newcastle (2), Leicester (2) & Utd (1 at most) and maybe KDB. Hard to call. My last FH didn't work out, so not the best to advise lol

      I saw the match on MOTD the other night. Spurs were very lucky to win that game at all. Villa should have been a couple of goals up at HT.

    What would be the best 4-man defence on a FH? Trying to hold TAA due to the lack of exciting defenders but would have to lose Saka for KDH (and start him). I would have no playing subs.

          thanks for the reply. would you go without a Newcastle defender and still consider Arsenal even though their recent defensive troubles? Also, my keeper would likely be Schmeichel. This was my FH team with both TAA and Cancelo:

            I expected Dubravka to be your GK. If its Schmeichel, then Schar/Burn makes sense.

            Team looks strong tbh. Trent to Matip and Halls to Saka is a low risk, high reward option.

              Thanks. Ik Matip is currently maintaining his place but with the current PL - CL - FA - PL fixture sandwich, I wouldn’t be surprised if Konate plays the PL game. Also, is it a major issue if I don’t have a playing bench?

      Maddison went up already so should stay at 7.0 for now; Schär still some way off a rise. Keep an eye on fplstats but I reckon you can get away with waiting til after Leicester's cup game
