Scout Picks - Bus Team

Scout Picks Gameweek 2 early selection: Triple-up on Man City

We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Gameweek 2 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

For those who haven’t seen this article series before, it’s essentially a rough, first draft of our regular picks, which get finalised and published much closer to the deadline.

We are limited to a £83.0m budget for our starting XI, unless using a back-five formation. In that scenario, it drops to £82.5m, as £17.5m is the minimum spend that our substitutes will cost.

READ MORE: Readers vote for the Scout Picks substitutes bench to be price-capped

The final picks will stay as they are and cement our weekly selection based on the Scout Squad long-list entries and fresh injury updates but this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the Always Cheating boys – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

Off we go again, then, with our early thoughts on the runners and riders up for selection in Gameweek 2, followed by the preliminary picks themselves.

THE LIKELY LADS

learning-from-the-great-and-the-good-21-22-closing-time 1

The opening weekend of the 2022/23 Premier League season produced plenty of surprises, with Manchester United suffering defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool dropping points at newly-promoted Fulham.

However, Mohamed Salah‘s (£13.0m) opening-day double-digit haul felt reassuringly familiar, rewarding those who captained him with a goal and assist.

Erling Haaland (£11.6m), meanwhile, also started fast with a brace of goals at West Ham United, and it’s clear the pair are the two stand-out attacking options to own ahead of Gameweek 2.

Defensive cover from both Liverpool and Manchester City also feels important, with Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Joao Cancelo (£7.0m) our favoured routes in, given their ability to contribute points at both ends of the pitch.

What’s Son’s record against Chelsea worth a punt on KDB or hold?

Thought about that myself but after watching Chelsea's match today Son is an essential hold for me.

Spurs record is bad. Rarely score against Chelsea. But different side this year where they are better than them. So they should score. But who knows.

The plan was always Son(C) > KdB (C). Lost points this week, so not sure if I want to captain KdB, with everyone going Haaland aswell.

I think I prefer City fixtures for the next 4, but it’s mighty close.

    City: Bou(H), New (a), CRY(H), NFO (H)

    Spurs: Che (a), Wol (H), NFO(a), WHU (a)

    GW6:

    KdB > Son for Ful(H), City(a), Lei(H)

My team is specifically structured for these moves, that is okay around with City and Spurs premium assets whilst having the insurance of Salah.

Those fixtures don’t look close to me. Man City with 3 at home vs Spurs with 3 away including Chelsea. And lots could happen by week 6!

Concerned what to do about Mount to be honest. I didn't -really- think Chelsea were cooking during preseason & didn't like the performance on Saturday. Went with him anyway (bias)!

Don't think a transfer is mad as Spurs will surely make it tough. But could be jerky.

Kulu looked great, and helps get some Spurs, although next fixture hard. Fixtures after are good though...

    A) Foden (BOU)
    B) Saka (LEI)
    C) Kulu (CHE... Guess nobody will pick)
    D) Maddison (ARS)

Maddison also looked good, but tricky fuxtures.

Um well guess that's a weird comparison. Would appreciate you answer my question if gonna ask your own!

Not as concerned about James. Has CS possibilities, good on BPS. Was on tons or corners (even if they were all poor).

Little bit of a lack of fitness Tuchel has said, but he's a good option still.

Are you asking about James or Mount? Either way you can't judge their overall attacking threat on one match.

Keep Mount I think, Chelsea usually struggle at Goodison.

Mount also on pens when no Jorginho or been subbed early

Well with Kovacic not involved yet Jorginho going to be playing for a bit. I personally don't rate Mount's penalties. Makes me uncomfortable watching.

We have the same team and i'm thinking about possibly moving Mount as well. Kulu does look great your right. Right now i'm leaning on holding Mount for now, after Spurs its Leeds, Lei and Saints.

Cheers. I'm probably going to hold tonight and hold off Kulu for now - mostly because of the Chelsea fixture.

Might still ship Mount for Saka or Foden later but less time constraint on that.

Per article Bournemouth super weak on right side, where both Foden & Saka play. Leicester were also poor down the right last year - less so last match though.

More and more it tells me I maybe should have gone with gut on Saka GW1 but triple Arsenal attack, oof!

Fellow concerned Mount owner here. Really did not like his position on the right side as he was nowhere near the play most times.

For me it’s Saka, Kulusevski, Foden, Maddison in that order.

I would personally either hold or move for Saka if you have that Arsenal slot available. Or Kulu or saka in week 3 but watching the spurs game for further assessment.

I also went Mount and I would trust Tuchel to correct it in time for the fixture run starting gw3 until gw7, using a system closer to the udinese game (which is why I went mount) although I concede I have him on bench as I have low expectations against conte’s spurs.

Yeah - Mount looked better on that Udinese game. Not incredible, but far more involved. Not sure why he started off on the other side this match (I think, anyway). Seemed to stifle him a bit - but clearly Tuchel wasn't that happy as subbed earlier than he usually is.

Saka is available, and who my guy told me to start with. He didn't look amazing during the Palace game, but still had 3 shot. On corners.

So far been happy with Aaronson over Neto, would love a return this week.

I switched over to the end of the game when the Spurs game had finished, it was in foreign commentary so was delighted when the camera kept panning to him on the bench.

Was fuming when I realised later it was one of those dubious goals unfortunately given as an own goal.

I mean what are the blooming chances!

It’s the fact I just assumed he had got the winner and didn’t realise until hours later and thought eh, why is Aaronson only 2 points?!

I was watching in bed half asleep (1:30am Aus time) and heard the commentator scream Aaronson and the camera pan to him. Thought maybe Bamford was offside but when was given + FPL confirmed it had no clue he didn't touch it. Oh well

Bruno G > Martinelli is a no brainer, unless of course you already have 3 x ARS.

Thinking save this GW. Play a miniWC GW3 (-4): Kulusevski, Robertson and Archer to Perisic, Darwin, KDH. Any suggestions?

    Håland Jesus Archer

It looks like Spurs is signing a new left back on loan from Serie A.

Seem to have a few left backs in their team now.

    Thoughts on Perisic?

Give the uncertainty with the wingbacks and that I don't have Son or Kane, I'm also considering this move to get some Spurs cover. I don't think Richarlison is that much of a threat to his minutes. But I'm also tempted by Saka. Currently on Martinelli and Jesus but don't wanna keep Mount. Since we share this dilemma, I'm curious about your thoughts as far as the 8m mids.

Hi guys, asked before but looking for more opinions, Kane to...

    A) Haaland
    B) Ronaldo
    C) Hold

Ronaldo will start against Brentford and he is the greatest goalscorer of all time, Haaland might be rested but worried about EO.

Is Walker 'nailed' for next few weeks, or could Stones/Cancelo possibly shift there. Eyeing possible Cash replacement.

Cash at home to Everton 'should' be a CS given Everton have no goalscorers fit, but Villa were poor against possibly the worst team on paper last week.

Also, I'd hold Cash for his first home game.
Expect a bounce after the hair-drying but long term yes, Villa are Dross!

That is why I chickened out at the last minute and replaced him with Cash who had a few nice opening fixtures.
That and getting the Gk wrong at the last minute cost me about 11 points.

Absolutely, I fell into the Villa trap but with Gerrard throwing the armband off popular dressing room Mings and creating "Pool" ANGST amongst the whisperers, I'm off that road permanent.
Got to give him the home game though I feel.

I've never seen a Pro defender duck out of a challenge like Trent did against Mitro__Just got his head out of the way in case he got a little bump.

    Terrible defender, terrible.

I genuinely and objectively tnought he was fouled. You cant push down on a defender's shoulders to get elevation. That said however, he was poor whole game as were Liverpool generally.

VAR disagreed and thy had plenty of time to look at hit.
He bottled the challenge in case he got his hair messed up.
        We agree to differ. 🙂
