FPL Gameweek 4 team news: Updates on Bamford, Maddison, Solanke and more

Four Premier League pre-match press conferences were held on Thursday as the countdown to Gameweek 4 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) continues.

We’ve got all the injury updates, team news and key manager quotes in this summary.

As well as the four managers speaking to the media today, 16 more will follow on Friday and we’ll be bringing you a round-up of those pressers in another piece tomorrow.

KEY UPDATES

LEEDS UNITED

Stuart Dallas (leg), Luke Ayling (knee) and Junior Firpo (knee) remain absent, while Jesse Marsch’s pre-match quotes seemed to suggest that Patrick Bamford (adductor) wouldn’t be ready for the trip to Brighton.

“Junior, Luke, we think that they will be in training next week. Stuart is still months away but working really hard.

“The big question mark is Patrick Bamford. We think he’s doing well and moving forward. I think also with the performances of the team, it allows us to be patient, but we will still have a call to make for exactly what it means for this weekend. We want to put him in the best position possible to physically be ready to pick up where he left off.” – Jesse Marsch

Rodrigo’s place up top looks settled for now with Bamford expected to miss out but Marsch did confirm that Leeds were active in the transfer market for another striker.

“Striker, yes. How likely it is… again it’s dependent on how things play out and what availability there is of players. We certainly don’t have big amounts of money to go out and spend and bring in a huge transfer. But I think we’ve done a good job of evaluating players that are of high interest to us.” – Jesse Marsch

LEICESTER CITY

James Maddison is a doubt for Leicester’s clash with Chelsea after feeling a “twinge” in training.

“We’ve got an issue around James Maddison. We’ll see how that is tomorrow (Friday). Hopefully he’ll be okay but that would be the only doubt. He just a felt a twinge yesterday when he was training so we’ll have to see what that looks like tomorrow.” – Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers also confirmed that Wesley Fofana wouldn’t be available for selection, as his protracted move to Stamford Bridge drags on for another week.

“He won’t be available for the weekend, he has trained with our under-23 squad.” – Brendan Rodgers on Wesley Fofana

SOUTHAMPTON

Tino Livramento (knee) is a long-term absentee but Romain Perraud (leg) has been back in training this week, with assessment to follow ahead of the weekend visit of Manchester United.

“Romain is back in training, this is good to see because he was out with groin problems and now today it looked good. He wasn’t ready for the cup game so we try to give him a good session on Tuesday.

“He trained today, trained good, and now we will see for the weekend if he is ready for this.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl on Romain Perraud

There were more questions about Che Adams‘ form and future, with Hasenhuttl confirming that the plan was for the striker to stay on the south coast.

“He’s good in the moment, he scores goals, he’s on fire.

“You need a game like this one [v Leicester in Gameweek 3], where you step in and score two goals, win the game. Suddenly everything looks nicer, easier, and you are full of self-confidence.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl on Che Adams

BOURNEMOUTH

Joe Rothwell (thigh), Ryan Fredericks (match fitness), Junior Stanislas (groin) and David Brooks (match fitness) are all still sidelined for the trip to Liverpool.

Dominic Solanke (ankle) will train on Friday, however, and could “be an option” in Gameweek 4.

“Dominic Solanke will train with us tomorrow for the first time, full training. So hopefully, if he comes through that can be an option for us at the weekend.” – Scott Parker

Jamal Lowe is also back in training after illness forced him to pull out of the Cherries’ starting XI in the EFL Cup clash at Norwich in midweek.

Haaland Foden

I struggle to see how it can work out for them.

I’d guess teams will quickly work then out and they’ll struggle. Guaranteed bottom 5 in my opinion, just depends which side of the line they finish.

Every poll, prediction site has Salah as the top scorer this GW and in future

Obviously he's been consistent in seasons past and is continuously the top point scorer at season's end.

Liverpool just don't seem to be clicking with their injuries. Is it still a no brainer at home vs. BOU?

Not off the top of my head, but I'm sure it's terrific.

Nonetheless, Liverpool aren't playing well and I think putting past results ahead of current form doesn't make sense.

I see it as an even call this GW with Salah, Haaland, and possibly Jesus

Hmm I was set on going Gundo but Rodrigo appeals as well for a few reasons.

If I do Son + Lavia > Diaz + Rodrigo. I leave 2.1m ITB which is exactly enough to do Cucurella > Cancelo in GW5 for NFO. This seems like a really clean plan.

Depends on whether you are the template manager and what you would do with the extra cash.

I went Gundo, but Rodrigo might come midweek. I am not expecting a lot for Rodrigo against Brighton. Both are good options imo.

Going Gundo means that Cucurella can become Perisic in GW5 instead of Cancelo.

So essentially over two weeks I can move to:

Gundogan + Perisic or Cancelo + Rodrigo

          Which is better?

I would rather have Gundogan over Cancelo actually. But I think Gundogan v Rodrigo is pretty close.

The only thing holding me back from Gundogan right now is that I might want to bring in & C KDB v NFO without selling Haaland. Who you planning to C GW5, if you don't mind me asking?

I've got Rodrigo and would like Gundogan too but it's the budget still.

There's likely other changes that will be more pressing or impact when team's get into their 3-4 day cycles on weekly match play.

A hit this week, FT next week.

        Basically:

        GW4: Lavia > Gundo/Rodrigo -4
        GW5: Cucurella > Perisic/Cancelo

alternatively Son could be a great captain option away at Forest.

Could be hattrick territory and a differential to reward patience.

He could. But he could also get dropped, or play fewer minutes. It also means I have to play Andreas away at Arsenal.

Based on what? He has looked really out of form so far, Richarlison is lurking.

simply based on him being a brilliant player, it's a temporary dip.

          gw1 was kind of unlucky.

Does Emerson get in the West Ham team? Can't see him over Cresswell unless he moves to center back .

Cresswell is surprisingly short (5'7) Yeah I know Martinez blah blah. But Cresswell doesn't have a history playing at CB so I can't see him playing CB long term.

He has played left centre back in a 3 quite a lot. Could see him playing there until Aguerd is fit if Moyes opts for 3 at the back again. If not they seem similar standard at full back, so have to wait and see who is first choice, maybe one for the Prem and one for the European games

Can see them playing a back 3/5 at least some of the time as they did last year.

Might be more in European games though bad start makes it an option in the league too.

I am a bit lost with this team after a shocking start. Any thoughts please? Got 2 FTs and 0 ITB.

    A) Saka > Mount, save 1 FT
    B) Haaland & Saka > Toney & KDB
    C) Robertson & Iversen > Cucurella & Sanchez
    D) Robertson & Neco > Cucurella & Perisic

Got the exact money to do the following…

Robbo, Bailey & Archer > Neco, Harrison & Toney (-4)

Robbo may have the fixture, but he and Pool have been pap. These moves also seem to get rid of 2 duds and bring in 3 playable players.

If I brought those guys in, Neco would be perma bench & the other 2 permanent fixtures in a 4-3-3.
At the moment Bailey is a starter every week (Have Archer, Andreas, Reed as well)

      yeah, good moves.

Bit unfair on Robbo to call him a dud.

Bailey is playable and doing pretty well.

          I'm messing.

But it's really unfair to call Bailey a dud and Robbo could come good.

You're really downgrading him, Neco could turn did too?

Neco ain’t getting dropped. His problem is that he plays for Notts df. But, he’ll be always on my bench anyway.
The problem with Bailey is that you just don’t know if he will definitely play week on week. He’s a headache if he’s in your starting XI

              almost scored off the bench.

I get the point though, Villa poor.

All those who went Digne again or Cash had to sort that out first.

Andreas Pereira the value pick and assured for now.

Third bench player will probably never leave the bench, therefore Cafu. If you intend to use your third bench sometime, then Lavia.

Probably not the best week to do that move. Bou is an excellent chance for Robbo to get points.
I might sell him, but also use the cash to upgrade my mf which is in dire straights.
Robbo > James is arguably a downgrade this week in isolation

Thanks all! I only have 1FT this week and have already eaten the price drop so will probably hold.

I can see James scoring big against Leicester but that might be by bias as a Chelsea fan. Both teams will be angry after losses!
