Blank Gameweek 12 confirmed: Arsenal v Man City postponed

Gameweek 12 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will be a ‘blank’ for both Arsenal and Manchester City, the Premier League confirmed this morning.

The two sides were due to meet at the Emirates on October 19 but the Gunners’ outstanding UEFA Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven, originally scheduled for this Thursday but postponed due to policing resources being needed elsewhere in London, will now take place in that midweek.

“The Premier League has agreed with UEFA to postpone Arsenal’s Premier League match with Manchester City, originally due to be played on 19 October, to allow for Arsenal’s re-arranged UEFA Europa League match with PSV Eindhoven.

“Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven, originally scheduled to be played on Thursday 15 September, will now be played on Thursday 20 October, 18:00.

“A new date for the Arsenal v Manchester City fixture will be announced in due course.” – Premier League statement

WHEN WILL ARSENAL v MAN CITY NOW TAKE PLACE?

As mentioned above, a new date has not been announced for the postponed game in north London.

It won’t take place before we break for the World Cup in mid-November, however, with no free midweeks for either Arsenal or Manchester City over that period.

It’ll likely be early 2023 before we see any rearrangements for this or the 13 other postponed games that remain without a date.

From Gameweeks 19-23, there are only EFL Cup and FA Cup rounds in between the top-flight fixtures, so any Premier League club eliminated from those competitions could see one of their cancelled matches slot into place then.

Another possibility would be the abolishment of FA Cup replays (making room for a Double Gameweek 20 and/or 22) or the EFL Cup semi-finals being reduced to a one-legged affair (allowing for a Double Gameweek 21).

FIXTURE OUTLOOK: ARSENAL AND MAN CITY

The postponement of Arsenal v Man City does present something of an extra headache for FPL managers, with players from both clubs well owned.

There will likely have been a gradual lowering of interest in Arsenal assets, anyway, with four of the ‘big six’ originally pencilled in for Gameweeks 9-15 – although meetings with Leeds, Southampton and Forest are more appealing either side of the new blank.

Owners of City players could potentially jettison one or two of their assets in Gameweek 11, meanwhile, with Liverpool away and then a blank to follow. More favourable fixtures await from Gameweek 13 onwards, however, so huge numbers will likely hold onto Erling Haaland (£12.0m) and Joao Cancelo (£7.1m) regardless.

Anyone still uncertain of when to play their Wildcard may now have a bit of added incentive to hold for Gameweek 13, with a ‘dead-ending to Gameweek 12’ approach and a gradual, short-term offloading of City/Arsenal players one potential chip strategy. Assets from these two clubs can then, if desired, be brought back into play with the click of a button on a Gameweek 13 Wildcard.

I can't for the life of me understand why I am seeing all these WC's with players like Maddison, Bowen, Gordon etc etc. in them and completely void of coverage from the top teams...

Do people honestly think these players will be able to compete with the premium options from the top teams? Do people have a strategy for getting these players back in???

Fixtures may be important for the lower teams, but the top players are to some extent immune to tougher fixtures. Everyone seems so short sighted with their WC planning...

Other than the Liverpool assets who are you thinking of? Easy enough to get Salah back in for KdB if you leave a bit of money in the bank. Think he's got players from every other top team bar spurs no?

I'm just not a fan of what seems to be an emerging template including a whole bunch of players from West Ham, Leicester, Newcastle etc.

I mean, West Ham and Leicester have won a game between em, yet I'm seeing Bowen and Maddison in all these teams. 8.0 million for players from teams completely out of form and not really showing impressive stats??

I can see the appeal of Newcastle definsive coverage, sure. But I personally am happy to bench and keep and not shake things up too much at the moment. I believe a back three of TAA, James and Cancelo will yield great results going forward. I can see the appeal of Haaland, Kane with either of Mitro/Toney up front with a weakened midfield.
But then stick in Foden/Silva/Gundo, Diaz, Rashford, Sterling, Saka etc etc. in midfield.

Just the way I see it and I could be very wrong, but these Wildcard teams seem to be greatly lacking coverage from the top 6 teams to me...

well ignore them then. Its quite clear why people are getting these players in. Fixtures create form in a lot of cases. And you say short sighted with their WC planning. There's only 9 gameweeks left till the WC and there's several fixtures swings

Arsenal are hardly fixture-proof, as we've just seen, Liverpool having a wobble and going through tough fixtures, Spurs have basically one option who can offset your team balance, Chelsea and United have massive question marks around them, and everyone has City anyway.

I'll tell you what I'm a fan of - the way the template is splintering.
Our GW1 squads had no data to go on and ended up being tediously template. This is now being shattered.

We're in a moment where those who prioritize fixtures are looking at teams with no form thus far. Those who prioritize form are looking at teams that have the worst upcoming fixtures. And then there's a wide spectrum in between, where each of us find a different balance. I'm all for it!

Arsenal have been fantastic, and could have easily beaten United. Liverpool haven't had the same start as they have in recent years, but have you seen how Nunez has played?? Not even a whisper of him on here. Could be an unbelievable differential. Chelsea and United offer a lot of value going forward the way I see it.

Arsenal have been great against the smaller teams, and Jesus has been playing brilliantly, but it's not really translating into FPL points to the point where he's a must-have, especially when you've got the likes of Mitrovic and Toney performing.

Nunez has been awful and shouldn't be starting games. He'll get goals because of the personnel around him, but Jota impressed me last night and really should be starting through the middle. Salah isn't really justifying his price.

Chelsea could be brilliant or they could carry on being rubbish. Nobody knows until we see how they play under Potter. Only James worth holding onto, in my eyes.

United only basically have Rashford as an option, and he's potentially injured.

Mitrovic and Toney won't keep that going. We've seen this every year since FPL started. The promoted teams or lower teams do well at the start and then slow down in their performances. Nunez could be a risk I agree, Jota is also great. I'd still rather stick with an arsenal striker for almost the same price over Mitrovic, Toney, Isak etc.

Toney got 12G+5A last season, which is pretty good for a promoted team. Wouldn't be surprised to see him surpass that this season. That 1m saving could be the difference between someone having Pope instead of Ward, for example.

It's all about jumping on different options at the right time. Yes, Jesus is good value in a vacuum, but not when he's had one haul in 6 games against mostly fodder and his fixtures are about to turn.

he didnt start yesterday. You're baffled by picks like Zaha and Maddison( scored 11 goals, 12 assists last season and has 3 returns in 5 this season) and recommending someone who has hardly played for liverpool and not nailed, in a team seemingly struggling for form. You're also suggesting Rashford who has been awful for the best part of 18months and only played well in 2 games this season. Gundo is also not nailed

Don't believe I ever metnioned Zaha, think he is a good pick. If you are going to argue against going for Liverpool players because of form, then Maddison makes even less sense. Perhaps Nunez was a bad example, but I firmly believe he will come good. No one from City is nailed, but they can score 6 against anyone.

Let's put it this way. I believe this is a dangerous time to wildcard because almost ALL the top teams are at the bottom of the fixture ticker. I think their top assets will do well regardless, and when the fixtures turn, the WC teams with a whole bunch of Fulham, Newcastle, West Ham, Leiecester etc. etc. coverage in them will have a really rough time adjusting.

Salah to Son for a one week punt

Seeing as I've got 3 City & 3 Arsenal (no WC)
I'm going to slowly lose my Arsenal players.
At the same time upgrading my bench

Supposedly was very poor last night. With fixtures piling up you have to think Doherty has to appear at some point soon. I have no idea what's going on with him but he has end product and that's severely lacking in Royal's game

He was pretty attacking, I thought. He'll be judged on getting nutmegged for the 2nd goal in the last minute, but that would be a tad unfair.

But you just know the week you bring him into your squad will be the GW Conte drops him!

He always looks attacking I find, does well to get up the line but it's his poor decision-making, crossing and shooting that's the issue. Always think of him away to Liverpool last season at the very end where he broke free and had the simplest of balls across to Son or Sess I think and he hit it high and over the box

The problem with him is the likelihood of being benched and/or hooked early given his history with injuries. No need for Howe to push it, especially given he should probably have Guimaraes back very soon and Almiron looking decent and given the fixture they have this week

You’re right he doesn’t look great to be fair but for a cheap mid woth good fixtures Almiron could be a decent hold for a few weeks. Looking at his stats he’s s XG isn’t the worst and he could be good for assisting Isak

should i play my wild card 1 week early for...

    isak vs jesus
    pope vs ramsdale
    kdb vs son
an additional defender (someone like emerson or coufal)
    +4 points

im guessing my gw9 wc team will be similar to the one i put out this week but it is a weeks extra data (which could lead to changes from gw8) plus 2 weeks of price changes

What's the rationale for using FH?

      1. Drexl Spivey

The FHs designed for these types of GWs, especially when we've had no forewarning. Blank GWs in GW-thirtysomething are generally easier to plan around.

There's also currently about 50 points separating the Top 10k from the Top 1m, so it's easier to jump rank now than it will be at the end of the season.

I can't. Not a decent team anyway. And I don't particularly want to sell the players I've got.

Each to their own at the end of the day.

If you were gonna wildcard next GW, do it now. Your FH will be valuable in the second half of the season with a pile-up of DGWs.

Maybe when we engage in any discussion about Free Hitting this GW, we should first disclose whether or not we've played our wildcard. I suspect we would see certain correlations.

At the moment I have 9 players which can start GW8. I can use my FT to get out 10 or take a hit to have 11 and my team ready to go GW9 pending the INT break with annoying injuries which may occour.

I need to get shot of Gabriel and Saliba, my only Arsenal assets but they are the least of my concerns right now as both play GW8. I can play one of them vs Spurs or bench both in GW9. They will be removed before the City and Arsenal GW12 blank. Arsenal's fixtures are very tricky from GW9 to 11, GW12 blank and then CHE so I am going to try be rid of both Gabriel and ASAP after GW9. Ranks are going to change big time from GW9 so GW8 I reckon will be a flash in the pan with the amount of DGW's lurking after the World Cup.

Not sure about Chelsea and Potter early on. Potter is off to a very tough start with Salzberg at home and Palace away as his opening fixtures. Will see if he changes my mind tonight so still to decide what I want to do with James and Sterling this GW. Both could stay or go before the deadline.

I am not doing anything yet though. After the Chelsea and City CL matches tonight, I will decide which way I am heading. Right now we are going through a reset of FPL with all the blank fixtures and WC's being played this week. If your team is not properly set up for GW9 and taking the GW12 City/Arsenal blank into consideration, do not have a WC available, then you are in a spot of bother having too many City and Arsenal assets to bench. Keeping your FH in tact will be like gold.

International friendlies should be scrapped permanently to lighten the fixture congestion!

Would be interesting to know when that very big DGW will be which will see every team play twice. FH still in tact 🙂

    Hi...thoughts on this for - 4?

Gives me 10. Then I can decide if I wildcard in the international break or dead-end to gw12

Salah taa and archer to kane trippier and bowen - 4

    Pope
    Cancelo Dias (James taa dunk)
    Martinelli andreas (Salah diaz lavia)
    Haaland jesus (archer)

Any recommendations for a 1-2 week punt on a defender (up to 6m)? Will likely wildcard next week or the week after.

Have Cancelo, Trippier already, am worried that Perisic might not start after last night.

I want Bowen but can't stretch to it. Still want a West Ham mid as their fixtures are great and they're going to spank Pickford-less Everton this GW.

Would you consider Fornals?? Or should I go for ASM (if fit)

Gundog or Bernardo the other options, albeit rotation nightmares.

    1. Deulofail
      • 8 Years

Paqueta is a good pick imo (plays tomorrow), but you'd have to play him away at Liverpool in GW12 presumably. ASM a significantly better option if fit, but he's not, even if ruled 'available' (I really want him this week, but it would be for a hit and benching Adreas. I would do it if I knew he would start). Gundo and Bernado would be transfers waiting to happen with their blanks on the horizon, unless your team can handle benching them, and in that case, they don't have great fixtures leading up to GW12 anyway.

    Hi all,

I've made some FT's to get a team of
    Pope
    Neco, Cancelo, Gabriel
    KDB, Kulu, Martinelli, Jensen, Andreas
    Haaland (c), Jesus

Bench: TAA, James (both blank), Archer
