How important is home advantage in FPL? Part 2: players

Just how important is home advantage and should it influence our thinking in Fantasy Premier League (FPL)?

Having already looked at each team’s home and away data from both an attacking and defensive perspective, we now turn our attention to individual players in this follow-up piece.

In this sample, which uses midfielders/forwards priced £6.0m and above with over 5% ownership in the top 100k, we can see the majority of players score more points at home.

Only two players have fared better for points per start on their travels: Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) and Martin Odegaard (£6.9m).

The largest discrepancy is a certain Marcus Rashford (£7.2m), who is averaging a whopping 9.1 points per start at Old Trafford, compared to just 2.9 on the road. With two home fixtures against Crystal Palace and Leeds United in Double Gameweek 22, it’s easy to see why so many managers are considering handing him the Triple Captain chip.

But what else can we take away from the above data?

Well, Salah has been poor at Anfield given his cost. For context, he averaged 8.4 points per start on home soil in 2021/22, so there has been a significant drop-off. Kevin De Bruyne (£12.5m) and Harry Kane (£11.7m) have been consistent both home and away, while Erling Haaland (£12.2m) is simply ridiculous at the Etihad, racking up 18 goals/11.1 points per start.

    New article! Would you make any changes to the below?

    Could do KdB to Fernandez, but would just do undo the transfer the next week so doesn't seem worth it.
    Could get another third Man U player in, but given I have three newcastle+2 Man U already I'd then need to sell them ahead of blank 25, so again doesn't seem worth it.
    Which leaves Leeds players... none of which seem great (other than Ridrigo, who is now out).

    So best option is to just save the transfer?

        I'd always bench the defender in that situation so narrowing it down to two, Gabriel and hope Dyche gives Everton some sort of bounce!

        BB really doesn't look awful, depends if you've a WC and want to build it around a BB or not. I wouldn't BB.

    1. Why anyone would captain Bruno is beyond me. His stats are worse than Rashford and will probably play less minutes considering he started midweek. Don't care how low you are in the ranks doesn't make a difference.

    The realistic aim for Haaland across his DGW is to score 26 points, that's 4 goals and 6 bonus points. If you catch a hat trick then even better.

    Rashford then needs to hit 13 points back to back which at minimum is a goal and assist in each games.

    Rash has only bettered that score three times this season.

    I think I'm talking myself out of a TC.

      It’s a tight call yes… Anything can happen. Haaland hasn’t got any injuries yet but will happen sometime this season. And only three days between his dgw.
      Rashford in form, rested and having 4 days between a dgw.
