Which Arsenal players should we pick in FPL?

With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) live for 2023/24, we’re welcoming back our team of Hall of Famers and guest writers for the new campaign. Here, Fantasy ‘all-rounder’ Obay Eid/FPL Milanista scrutinises Arsenal players and reveals his Gameweek 1 team.

We are less than one week away from Gameweek 1, so it’s time to start finalising our 15-man squads.

Premium defenders were taking all our attention when we were selecting our teams for the 2022/23 season, after the phenomenal performances and excellent value they offered in the previous campaign.

However, for this season’s preparation, I feel that the biggest talking point is Arsenal assets and which ones we should pick in our FPL teams.

Arsenal were the second-top-scoring team from last season, while only Manchester United trumped them for clean sheets.

Their favorable fixtures across the first seven Gameweeks mean that we shall be heavily invested in the Gunners, especially after FPL decided to price their key assets quite generously.

Let’s jump into the stats to hopefully make it a bit easier for us to select our Arsenal players for Gameweek 1.

ARSENAL IN FPL: ATTACKERS

The Gunners’ fans were entertained by a free-flowing attacking side that came really close to winning a long-awaited Premier League title. With 88 goals scored during the 2022/23 campaign, their attack must not be ignored.

    Thanks, yeah that's true, I think you have to sacrifice too much for Salah. Imo TAA not worth the 8m the way Pool defence has been, I could be wrong. Other assets are a bit of wait and see to got a better idea on their preferred starters Jota/Darwin/Diaz/Gakpo etc

I think I am too risk averse in FPL. Looking at the draft in the article with an ultra-cheap bench and Foden and Darwin in the first XI not being guaranteed starters makes me nervous.

    Yeah fair point but I also don't want 15 mins from one or both in a week, which is entirely possible. If both start regularly they're great picks of course, but I'd also worry about getting a full 90 out of them which with all this proposed added time might be a boon for those who play 'til the final whistle.
    
    I reckon Gakpo starts on Sunday FWIW, but what do I know!

    I suppose we could see a similar story as we did in 2021. Leno began the season as the first choice but was eventually replaced by Ramsdale, who exceeded expectations. I expect Aaron to be number one in August, and David will be given some time to settle in and get to know his new teammates and system. After September, if Arsenal don't keep any clean sheets in their first four or five games, we could obviously see a change between the sticks.
    
    Arteta on if Ramsdale’s been feeling pressure due to transfer speculation (https://www.arsenal.com/news/every-word-mikels-post-man-city-presser-1): "I hope not, because the competition here always exists whoever it is and that's what he has to feel like. If we don't feel like this, we are not going to get the best out of each player, so we better feel like this and make sure that we all feel like this, me first."
    
    Raya talked about competition (https://twitter.com/i/status/1687210320362905600), and his mentality is exactly what you want from a player. He (soon to be 28) will help Ramsdale (25) grow and improve, and in the meantime, bring more stability and confidence to the backline. In the case of injury, we don't have to worry.
    
    The manager wanted him three years ago, and now they are taking advantage of the opportunity to bring him to the club. In May, I thought that Raya would sign for Chelsea, City, United, or Spurs. So I'm simply delighted with this signing.

      Personally I wouldn't but the manager likes him . I think Turner would be more than enough to cover and evolve into a really good GK .
      But that's my opinion only stating there is still a possibility of Hendo coming which means Turner won't be no1 hopefully it won't happen and we spend the money else where or stop spending .

    I'm honestly fine with that. I'm just staying clear of all players threatened by Pep roulette. Foden scoring a brace in each of week 1 and 2 doesn't make him any less of a rotation risk and there are always other options, especially at that price point

What are people doing with Foden? It is the last spot on my team that I have a real doubt over. He looked decent when he came on v Arsenal. If he starts he could really rip it up?

I have my Brighton quota used up and I don't really like Mbeumbo as a pick.
My choice at the moment instead of Foden is Diaby - because he starts looks like he could get goals- also rotates well with Palace (Eze)

And now Maddison/Richarlison is starting to come into my thinking.

    The back of my mind with Foden even if he is benched - with this new 'added' - injury time thing, Foden basically got nearer a full half of football minutes wise yesterday.

Not had my finger on the FPL pulse over the past few weeks as my wife has just had a baby girl - can anyone shed any light on why TAA seemed to be in everyone's drafts a few weeks ago but has now disappeared?

  Overpriced(so teams look better without) and Pool seems to struggle at the back. So 8m for poor chances of a CS is not that good of a deal.

      I have never had more FPL time available then when trying to get my kids off to sleep when new born. Enjoy the time with your little one, and also make the most of the extra awake-time when you only have brain capacity for football!

With 10 mins of injury time being added to each match there will be less clean sheets.
