Our community writers have been on fine form over the past week, presenting us with one of the busiest periods for articles on record.

Fantasy Premier League Bonus Point changes, squad rotation and goalkeeper selection were among the array of issues assessed. It was also a bumper week for Hot Topics, as we look back on discussions on Fantasy football’s unofficial achievements, the best premium players on offer and also welcome the youngest new recruit to the Fantasy Football Scout family.

The Community Articles

The changes to Fantasy Premier League’s Bonus Point System (BPS) was the subject of The 3rd Turd’s impressive research this week. Incredibly he has managed to configure next season’s changes to last season’s games to find out just who will be the winners and losers when it comes to bonus allocation.

Another stellar piece of analysis was unveiled by The Shoemaker, newly established as one of the community’s top new contributors. This time he examined the subject of squad rotation, assessing those teams with the most and least settled sides.

Rotation of a different nature was the focus of O’Shaughnessy latest article, in which he considered the best strategy for captains at the start of the season. This was an issue also picked up by Match of the Dan later in the week.  Le Saux Solid Crew’s look at Fantasy Football’s best all round attacking players in recent years proved further, essential reading in the search for the best armband selection.

As Fantasy managers prepare for Gameweek 1, price is always a primary consideration. This week saw a flurry of community articles offering sound advice for those in search of value players.

Kompany man’s focus was the best bang for your buck goalkeepers, while p00sbrown took an in depth look at the budget assets available in Watford’s squad. Chicken Mandy also has an eye on value in his pick of the best Tottenham prospects.

Triggerlips has also been looking at price and the time-honoured tactic of selecting a cheap fifth midfielder to afford the premium captain candidates elsewhere. But, he wonders, is 2015/16 the season to ditch the strategy and splash the cash on all five midfielders? The search for value continued in TM245‘s look at Value Over Replacement Player theory, which considered the best value midfielders as well forwards.

When the FPL player price list was announced there were more than a few surprises, with the majority of the community overestimating many price tags, according to the results from Dat Guy’s Price Prediction Challenge. Congratulations though to the crystal ball gazing skills of Henrzd, who had the best predictions.

The Sky Sports game also launched this week and our resident expert Disable was on hand to offer advice in our dedicated Rate My Team (RMT) article.

Finally, we wanted to hark back beyond the last week to The Sarjeant’s superb analysis of Southampton’s conveyor belt of young talent – a terrific insight into a club that’s been feeding our Fantasy Football squads in recent years and may well do for seasons to come.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Later this month we have big plans regarding the steady stream of “Rate My Team” or “RMT” posts coming in. In the meantime, the community offered their advice on RMT etiquette to ensure that they attract replies.

A number of Hot Topics over the week took a look at some of the key names already featuring in many early Fantasy football draft teams. Branislav Ivanovic has emerged as the most popular premium priced defender, according to our poll. While for Wakey Manchester City’s David Silva is a name that should be top of the list of midfield candidates and Parm took a look at Alexis Sanchez’ Fantasy returns with and without some of Arsenal’s key men on the pitch.

More than half of FPL teams already own Eden Hazard but Rattan64 ponders whether Fantasy managers could be better off with 2.5 million in their pockets by drafting in his cheaper Chelsea team mate Cesc Fabregas instead?

A team with no shortage of choice in midfield is Man United, who this week added Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastien Schweinsteiger to a midfield that already boats Juan Mata and Memphis Depay. Doosra, however, is unimpressed and sparked a lively discussion this week after declaring the Red Devil’s revamped midfield a mess. In contrast, Wild Rover thinks the summer spending spree shows a side mounting a genuine title challenge.

Reacting quickly to the form of players such as United’s new recruits early on in the season is amongst the key advice on offer in Birdman77’s discussion on increasing team value in FPL. Reacting to transfer developments is also important, with Younes Kaboul’s move from Tottenham to Sunderland prompting Fantasy Noob to launch a debate on the most nailed-on Black Cat defenders.

Amongst the toughest players to predict a rise in form from are those from promoted teams. Yu Suk Young took this look back at some of the promoted players that proved a worthy investment. The Puntmaster also provides some useful information about those new to the Premier League with this update on his research into new recruits and promoted teams’ players. While Champs took a look at some of those promoted stars that failed to deliver.

Speaking of delivery, Granville popped by with the happy news that this week Mark welcomed a new addition to the family, with the birth of his daughter Edith. While Edith is the youngest birthday marked, this week also saw our resident Southampton expert Lucy celebrate her birthday, which she shares with former Saints star Gareth Bale.

Finally, one of this week’s most popular posts was Bsloebadger’s discussion on unofficial achievements in FPL, such as the Bench Buster, where your bench outscores your starting 11, and Captain Fantastic, where your armband selection delivers returns for 10 weeks in a row.

The Members Tables

With goalkeepers’ stock rising following a change to the bonus points Davejug1’s table went on the hunt for the most prolific penalty savers on offer.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

Wow, my first community round -up mention, cheers Jonty! And for the record, here's how Sunderland defence stands atm:

PVA (5.0)-First choice LB, definteley nailed atm, safest pick
Coates (4.5)- Brought in as an effort to improve the horrific defensive situation at the time for the black cats.
O'Shea (4.5)- Captain but age not on his side. Kaboul could well be his long term replacement.
Mathews (4.5)- Brought in to develop as a RB, has start games for them so far but maybe replaced by Kaboul
Kaboul (4.5)- Brought in as further efforts to improve defence. Preferred position is CB but can also play RB. Atm I believe not much news on who he may replace, or if the defense would be rotated.

I think they are very good. Their defence was decent for value with Pants between the sticks nearing the end of last season and they're certainly headed the right direction with Kaboul's signing.

I certainly expect Lens to feature for them. Seeing how Depay may need more time to settle in, I can see Lens as a good midfield option for 6.5, he is afterall proven at the international stage.

Too many expensive defenders resulting in a weak forward line - the heaviest scoring part of the game.

Downgrade Mertslacker for a SUN defender and try for a front line of Roonpig/Kane/Kosta/Benteks. Perm 3 from 4.

After watching the friendly vs Club America I have come to believe it will take time for Depay to settle at United. FPL wise, it may not be a bad idea to let him become familiarised with the prem first, as LVG said, it's a process and he may frustrate by not starting games or coming off at half time often but as a United supporter, I am expecting big things from him in the future for us.

Yep I agree. Loads of skill but a little bit rash at times. He probably would have looked a lot better on the left wing rather than behind the striker. Young still looks quite handy out there at the moment and I can't see Memphis displacing him yet.

This year will be a different story because its LVG's second season and he knows his players better. United had a quite a settled lineup from mid season onwards with only injuries causing trouble.

You would hope so, but he does have a tendency to be "creative". Also, bear in mind that by last season's end he'd settled on a midfield of Carrick-Herrera-Fellaini-Mata-Young, and now he's already brought in Schwei, Schnei, Depay. So he will tinker with those 3 at least.

Fair point and the added competition could well bring him to tinkering once more. I do believe Mata and Young still look like solid bets for the wing roles at this stage. ADM being the big disappointment

Also, is Di Maria guaranteed to be shipped off? It's really disappointing that LvG did not manage to get him in the side. Probably the 2nd most talented player in the PL, after Hazard

Rumours initially suggested him to be traded for cavani. I believe he is unsettled and may leave if he doesn't get starts consistently from LVG, who is leaning more towards Mata atm. Shame though, expected big things from him too.

The only semi balanced Aguero side I've come up with...

    Myhill Hennessey
    Clyne Darmian Matthews Bassong Targett
    Hazard Walcott Mata Ritchie Anya
    Aguero Benteke Sakho

No Chelsea D or Kane/Chadli are worries though.

Don't like Kos or Fonte at all, Doos. I was all set on Cech but after looking at the fixtures again I think I'm staying away from Arsenal D to start. And I reckon Saints will be rather leaky this season. Like the brave promotion rotation though. But you know my thoughts re Falcao. 🙂

I'd have major concerns over your defence. Three have never played a competitive game for their new clubs and might need time to bed in, one's with a promoted club favourites to be relegated and one's a kid just filling in for a couple of games.

Actually in your midfield Wally, Mata and Anya are not guaranteed starters.

Didn't check prices, sorry. I mean if you need to get a higher value striker in and assumed Sakho was cheaper. In that case you've got a mid striker in so unless you need an unlikely Costa signing all is good

Morning gents. Great advice on this site. I'd be grateful for a RMT.

    De Gea, 4.0

    Cedric, Clyne, Azpi, Huth, 4.0
    Hazard, Silva, Ozil, Henderson, Fletcher
    Rooney, Lukaku, Wilson

Wildcard GW4. Lukaku out in GW2, probably for Pelle.

Not.concerned about non playing 4.0 players due to early wildcard.

1.Clyne is no longer in sot and thus is useless IMO
2.De Gea meh....4.5 rotation is better and cheaper IMO

Midfield looks okay and attack is good

Merseyside teams have tough opening fixtures. Look elsewhere I say.

couple of papers reporting remy to palace this morning. Could be an decent pick at 7.5m if it happens.

Surely Targett has to be the best 4.0 to grab
Casuals will see someone dirt cheap in a good defense suddenly playing
So even when Targett loses his spot he'll have boosted your TV

the early bandwagons increase much faster expecting his rice to increase to 4.4 especially if he gets a assist or 2

Looking at Southhampton friendlies and he's not even used as a sub, is this a worry? I have little knowledge on how Southhampton is run, i should add 🙂

    A. Anya
    B. Bentaleb
    C. Fletcher

    Best pick for 4.5 mid?

Is Fletcher sharing some of the corners, is Bentaleb nailed on ?

    Thanks.

Anya probably the most attacking, but not a sure starter from what ive gathered. Bentaleb played his way into the team, should be a starter.
Personally im going for Fletcher as he is WBAs captain 🙂

    RMT please
    cech(scmike)
    francis;ivan;kos;fonte(bassong)
    haz;fab;ritchie;henderson;silva
    wilson(jrod;sakho)

aware that 4-5-1 seems wrong but
jrod to play preseason shows return to form
    sakho ready for GW2 onwards
    wilson -expecting a villa walkover

      Seems wrong because it is
this is a wildcard waiting to happen
jrod still hasnt played in months and id never expect a promoted side to remotely dominate this early
i honestly have no idea where you put your money but you need to start over from your front line back
Forwards have always been the focal points of teams mate

I'd certainly think so, not really wild about silva for his price either

      1/2
      3/3
      2/3
      1/2 = 7/10 Midfield too heavy ... without a good bet.

Can't you have Cech and ivan or cech and azpi . Gives you more cash and one of each team.

Thanks. Didn't think of that... I do rate kosc and had him in but needed the extra 0.5M.....

I think I might run with what you said. Kosc and cazorla.....

Can't ignore the irons favourable home fixtures, would struggle parting way with jenkinson.

Fair point. I was hoping the arrivals of bastian and Morgan and otamendi (who seems a done deal) will help them.....
