Scout Scribbles – Christensen Scare For Blues

The international break starts with some mixed defensive news for Chelsea, while the in-form Riyad Mahrez helps steers Algeria to victory.

Denmark’s 1-0 win over Panama – one of England’s World Cup opponents – was achieved without Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen.

The versatile defender has returned to Stamford Bridge after missing out last night, with his national manager, Age Hareide, playing down the severity of his injury:

“Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London. We do not want to take any risks with him. I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue. It’s not serious, but it can be. It is a bit frustrating because we would have liked to trial him in both central defence and as a defensive midfielder.”

Priced at just 5.3 in Fantasy Premier League, interest in Christensen is on the rise as the cheapest route into a defence that is one of just six set to play twice in Gameweek 34, with the Blues travelling to Southampton and Burnley.

Antonio Conte could, however, have David Luiz back in contention for the Gameweek 32 home encounter against Spurs on April 1, with the Brazilian stepping up his recovery from an ongoing knee problem.

Returning to the Denmark match, the usual FPL suspects of Christian Eriksen and Kasper Schmeichel started for the Danes, while Huddersfield centre-half Mathias Jorgensen was also handed a rare international appearance and his club colleague, Jonas Lossl, was on the bench.

Eriksen is likely to be in the plans of many an FPL manager as Spurs have an upcoming Double Gameweek 34 involving Man City at home and a trip to Brighton, as well as another double probably taking in a trip to West Brom and a visit from Newcastle.

But any of his 14.5% ownership watching yesterday’s match would have been dismayed to discover the Panamanians in combative mode for what was meant to be a friendly, as Hareide alluded to post-match.

“You play a friendly, especially between two teams that will play in the World Cup, and you take it a little bit more easy – but I think that’s their style and the referee has to decide about that.”

Eriksen survived and was replaced after 64 minutes for purely tactical reasons, while the 4.7% who own Schmeichel were at risk of losing their man to serious injury when he was the victim of a studs-first challenge to the midriff from Blas Pérez that narrowly missed connecting with the Leicester man’s face.

Pérez was sent off, the Danes won and all ended well, with Denmark back in action on Tuesday against Chile.

As for Panama, they’re also playing again that day against Switzerland, so the 12.6% of managers with Xherdan Shaqiri in their squads will no doubt be grateful that their man is missing the international break with a minor calf issue.

Vokes shines as Bale makes hay

Burnley striker Sam Vokes scored one goal and set up two more as Wales cruised to a 6-0 win over China.

His turn was not the star one, however, as a Gareth Bale hat-trick confirmed the Real Madrid man as his country’s all-time record goalscorer.

Then again, Vokes is used to playing second fiddle at club level as well – he’s currently third in the attacking pecking order at Burnley behind in-form duo Ashley Barnes (three goals in as many Gameweeks) and Chris Wood (three in two).

The Clarets’ schedule (wba wat LEI CHE) includes a double in Gameweek 34 that is prompting interest in their assets, yet despite his fine 63-minute performance yesterday, Vokes’ role as a bit-part player under Sean Dyche will ensure we steer clear.

New Wales manager Ryan Giggs also handed starts to Wayne Hennessey, Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Joe Allen and Andy King, with the latter providing an assist.

Spurs full-back Davies (23.2%) and the 2.0%-owned Stoke City man Allen played 70 and 63 minutes respectively, the others the full 90.

All are likely to be back in action for the final of the China Cup on Monday, when they will play the winners of today’s other semi-final between Uruguay and the Czech Republic.

Elsewhere…

Gabon and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is missing his country’s Long’s Cup duties in Bangkok as his grandmother has passed away.

The 8.3%-owned striker has been attracting a lot of FPL interest as the Gunners’ schedule (STK SOT new WHU) includes a fixture in the reduced Gameweek 35 slate and Europa League ineligibility makes him virtually nailed-on for league duty.

On the flip side, the news that Arsenal do not have a double in Gameweek 34 has dampened some of the enthusiasm in their key assets.

Meanwhile, Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez (10.7%) is another in many managers’ Wildcard plans on the back of a good set of fixtures (bha NEW bur SOT) that includes two matches in Gameweek 34.

Indeed, since yesterday’s confirmation of the Double Gameweek 34, he is the fifth most bought player in the last 24 hours.

The winger’s fine domestic form – he has two goals and an assist from his last two Gameweeks – was carried into the international break as he set up two of Algeria’s strikes in a 4-1 friendly win over Tanzania.

Mahrez recovered from a slight muscle issue to play the full 90 minutes yesterday and is expected to be back in action again on Tuesday, away in Iran.

Leaning towards the conclusion that a stronger 2x11 DGWeekers in 34 and 37 would clearly outscore a weaker 15 DGWeekrs 34 bench boost and a damaged DGW 37

Yep. I was going to bb in gw34 with fodder from the likes Swansea West Ham Leicester Burnley etc. But you would be lucky to get more than 20 bb points so is it a big consideration anyway?

Currently on my WC so the question is, to build for a BB in GW34 or GW37? I will TC in whichever I don't BB in. FH in GW35 still.

I think I'm going to BB in GW34 for the following reasons:
    - Much closer and therefore easier to be certain as to who is going to play and who is in form.
    - Still a lot to play for, whereas in GW37 the big teams could rest key assets to focus on other cups as the league places could be already decided.
    - Kane factor. Kane highly likely to be fit for GW37 and Spurs have two amazing fixtures, therefore better to save TC for then rather than using it in GW34 on Lukaku.
    - GW37 is incredibly hard to build a BB team for. Just tried what kind of team I would go for and to cover United, Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Spurs etc is very costly and requires loads of cheap enablers. GW34 is much easier as you can get 3 United, 3 Chelsea, 3 Leicester, couple of Spurs and couple of Burnley.

    What's your opinion on this?

I'm swaying to the opposite view.

I found myself squeezing in Burnley and Brighton players who have stinking fixtures for GW34 and asked myself, what is the point?

BB in GW37 allows me to carry over an Arsenal defender on the bench in 34 alongside Newcastle assets, who have one half decent fixture in GW37.

May even leave my TC until the final week but will assess my deficit/lead going into 34 I think.

Fair enough. Have you tried to build a team with 13/14 (plus Salah) for GW37 yet? Would also need to fit Kane in

Yeh - have done that and will need a hit.

Planning on downgrading Chelsea def to upgrade Lukaku > Kane.

Then will move Barnes to Ayew for free.

Biggest issue is no City cover but I will have that issue regardless of when I BB.

Okay, I will be doing something similar to fit Kane in. Probably Alonso will be the sacrifice for Kane. Also just noticed that Salah only has 1 fixture that week and it's Chelsea away. I don't think it would be crazy to free up funds for Kane by selling Salah as the value tied up in him is irrelevant at that point. The only issue is if him and Kane are fighting for golden boot he could still haul and he has Brighton at home in GW38 which could easily be a hatrick. Just something to think about but obviously decide just before GW37.

Think you have to draft a team for each option and see what looks best. I was going bb in gw34 but no fh and lack of dbgw fixtures in gw34 means I am reversing and playing tc in gw34. If I had the fh would bb in gw34. You don’t need 15 dbgw players

I think for those who have activated wildcard it makes sense to go for BB34, FH35 & TC37.

We can’t make a squad of 15 dgwrs for GW37 from now on. It will be practically impossible to have those players will play twice.

Also GW37 arguably is best week for Triple Captain with Kane’s fixtures.

            True.

Thing is, I like to hold advantages over my rivals and I'm reluctant to BB in GW34, only to see it fail and my rival has their BB in tact.

            Is that crazy?

Still tinkering - what do you think of this (WC) team?

    £0.6itb
    DDG (Ryan)
    Alonso, Monreal, Morgan, Lowton (Vertonghen)
    Salah, Mahrez, Son, Willian (Gros)
    Auba, Firmino (Barnes)

Plan to BB in GW34 - in advance I will do: Auba, Firmino >> Lukaku, Vardy with FT
This will give me 14 DGW players + Salah and Monreal

Monreal could be Bailly but that leaves me only £0.1itb

    Any good?

With the lack of decent defensive DGW options in DGW 34, is anybody considering sticking with PvA for that week? He plays Brighton at home, he's one of the most threatening defenders in the league and the rest of his fixtures aren't that bad either.

I've already got Ryan / DDG / Lowton / Bailly / Alonso / Morgan and just can't find anyone else to fill in the last place:

Christensen vs sou bur - He's so injury prone that even if he's fit, he might not play twice in 5 days.
Maguire vs bur SOU - I already have 3 other Leicester players and this guy is a massive troll.
Tarkowski vs LEI CHE - Can't see a clean sheet in either game and already have Lowton in case he gets an assist.
Spurs options vs MCI bha - Quite pricey and one of their games is against City.
Man Utd options vs WBA bou - The only other nailed on option is Valencia at 6.9m and that would mean I wouldn't be able to fit in Lukaku (3 Utd spots used up).

People who are FHing in GW35 ... are you setting up your GW34 team with enough cash to get Kane back in for GW36 without a hit?

I'm thinking I'll really want him over Lukaku immediately for that fixture (Watford at Wembley), but that does mean setting up my BB squad for GW34 with a bit of cash to spare. But something like:

        De Gea - Ryan
        Alonso - Mustafi - Lowton - Morgan - Simpson
        Salah - Son - Mkhi - Mahrez - Willian
        Auba - Firmno - Barnes

Allows Mkhi and Auba to Gudmundssen and Lukaku for 34, then FH in 35, leaving enough cash to go Lukaku -> Kane for 36 and then the final free transfer to make sure I've got 11 DGW37 double-starters with Kane already in place.

It took me a while, but I've realized you don't need 15 DGW players for 34 at the expense of a balanced team through to the end. 12/15 with the other three (Mustafi, Salah and Firmino) having a good 34 fixture anyway makes 36 and 37 a whole lot easier.

Sorry for the brain-dump, but I reckon it's important not to ignore the no-chip weeks like 36.

I'm presuming that Kane will be back for GW34 TBH, so likely going Auba and Mky with the WC then losing them both for a cheaper mid and either Lukaku or Kane (if fit) for GW34 with my two FT's. That the loose plan as it stands.

Losing Mky is okay as his two starts in GW37 will be a risk if Arsenal progress in the EL, and Vardy/Kane/Ayew will likely be my GW37 strikers.

Would you go Mkhi over Groß Mark?

Have the same plan as you.

I've got them both at the mo with more spend in defence.

I think Gross is a great option now for the next two GWs and the double - Brighton could and should be safe by GW37 so this is the DGW to get on him and Murray imo.

Mark what do you think about Charlie Austin over Murray? And have you left out Willian/Son then to accomodate Mkhi and Gross?

Yup agreed with this. It will be madness selling DGw players to get Kane back in 36 and definitely not want him for that Watford fixture. Yes we have a cheaper squad for a couple of weeks but we won’t have take hits and we can adapt to any mishaps in our squad too.

Great post (can't believe you have Son in your side after your well-reasoned arguments against him!)

I'm definitely coming round to the idea that DGW players are not necessarily the most important aspect of our wildcards. Mustafi, Aubameyang, Salah and Firmino may well remain - although one of the front 2 is likely to be sacrificed for Lukaku come dgw34.

Even someone like Tomkins at 4.4 might be worth a shout. Or PVA if you have more cash than I do.....

It's only the Naughton pick I don't like - otherwise solid.

TC GW34, WC GW35 (to include players with a game in GW35 and two games DGW37), then BB GW37

Auba was locked into my team but now with the single gameweek in 34 I feel he's not as essential. Anyone else feeling the same? If there is any single week 34 forward I would keep it would be Firmino. What are the thoughts on a Forward line of Firm, Lukaku and Vardy for the next 3 weeks?

Pulled the trigger on my WC at the weekend in a drunken haze, didn't even reap the benefits of any price changes.

First attempt at a draft. 0 left ITB

        DDG Ryan
        Alonso Christiansen Mee Morgan Smalling
        Salah Mahrez Son Willian Gudmundsson
        Lukaku Vardy Murray

Thoughts? Feel free to rip it to shreds 😉

I have pretty much the same, expect Auba for Vardy and Alonso for Robertson. (Since I have no FH for 35)

Painfully, this all comes down to three players.

If BB in GW, I have these:

        Dummett, Mustafi, Kenedy

These look decent considering they are the last pickings.

I cannot find anyone that comes close to the value these offer across the rest of the season that offer a DGW34.

This is the crux of my problem.

Could someone explain this Willian hype? Minutes are not guaranteed and has rotation risk?

Cheap way into Chelsea attack - not convinced myself either personally.

He seemed like a great idea at the start of the season too when he was passing the eye test, never reallly materialises as a fantasy asset does he.

It's Hazard for me. This could mean losing Alonso but with Emerson waiting in the wings he is under threat during the GW34 double ahead of the FA Cup semi.

Almost everyone has 100% exact team here.

Maybe auba for 2 weeks and then ship in lukaku 34.
