Watchlist Update – Shift among forwards as Chelsea options tumble

We’ve updated the Watchlist after a manic few days of Fantasy Premier League action.

Going into Gameweek 16 there have been major changes among the forwards.

Meanwhile, Chelsea options take a tumble while a battle continues at the summit of the midfielders section.

The biggest change going into Gameweek 16 is that the top of the forwards section has finally been vacated by Sergio Aguero (£11.3m). His recent injuries and no-shows have pushed him down to sixth place as Fantasy managers focus more on Manchester City’s midfield rather than their attack.

Taking his place at the top of the pile is Tottenham striker Harry Kane (£12.5m) who has scored or assisted in each of his last four matches and still has a favourable run of fixtures ahead of him. He is closely followed by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.3m) who has three goals and an assist in his last four and also has favourable fixtures on the horizon.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.0m) takes the place of Marko Arnautovic as the best budget forward following the West Ham man’s injury. The Wolves striker is proving excellent value for money this season, having either scored or assisted in four of his last five outings. The fixtures aren’t quite as great as a few weeks ago but the newly-promoted side still have Newcastle (away) and Bournemouth (home) before Liverpool (home), although Jiménez has proved he can even register points against the big boys.

Callum Wilson (£7.0m) simply cannot stop scoring which is why he also climbs the charts, although arguably the biggest riser Aleksandr Mitrovic (£6.7m). It has been a topsy-turvy season for the Fulham striker, scoring five goals in his first six matches, blanking for the next six in a row. However, in the last three matches, he has a total of 18 points from two goals and an assist. Reinvigorated under Claudio Ranieri and with good fixtures coming up, Mitrovic could well come back into the template soon.

Replacing Arnautovic as the West Ham representative among the forwards is Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez (£6.3m), who has three goals in his last five outings. Also, in the four matches prior to Gameweek 16, he had actually registered more attempts on goal than Arnautovic from fewer minutes.

Things are tight at the top of the midfielders charts with Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) still holding off competition from Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) and Leroy Sané (£9.4m). Liverpool’s trip to Bournemouth and Manchester City’s top-six clash with Chelsea definitely forms a part of that decision this week, that and the fact that, theoretically, Sterling and Sané are more likely to be rotated than Salah.

Eden Hazard (£11.0m) has slipped down to seventh place given Chelsea’s struggles of late. The player himself has actually produced plenty of chances in recent weeks but his attacking players are not converting those chances, hurting his appeal.

Felipe Anderson (£7.2m), Richarlison (£7.1m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m) have all gone above the Chelsea man. Spurs’ Danish midfielder especially seems to be back to his best, providing four assists in the last three Gameweeks. Kieran Trippier has been absent for some of those allowing him a greater role in set pieces once again and even when they played together against Southampton, the Englishman’s corners were often taken short for Eriksen to cross in. An injury doubt over Trippier plays into his owners’ hands going forward.

Andrew Robertson (£6.5m) and Aymeric Laporte (£6.1m) remain the top defensive options despite their recent absences. We still believe they will play more often than not over Christmas and the defensive records of their respective clubs are too good to ignore.

Marcos Alonso (£7.1m) has dropped to fourth amid Chelsea’s recent struggles and their upcoming clash with Manchester City. Matt Doherty (£5.0m) goes above him as he continues to tick over with returns, a goal or an assist in each of his last two matches.

Christopher Schindler (£4.3m) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.2m) are the budget options lower down the rankings while Lewis Dunk (£4.5m) comes in for the suspended Shane Duffy.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.6m) and Hugo Lloris (£5.4m) are the risers in the goalkeeper section as their fixtures continue to appeal.

when Fulham have played the top 6 teams the captain pick for the week has come from that game.

am very surprised there's not much love for the united captains this week

one week captain punt on Martial, Pogba or Lukaku will pay off IMO-

Too much fear of the Arsenal boys and Kane, United are not very good currently (or for quite some time) and it seems an unnecessary risk. United don't convince me often or score too many goals either (albeit they did well against Arsenal).

No serious player owns Pogba or Lukaku, and Martial is a doubt. If the latter was confirmed fit he could have been a good shout, difficult to see past Aubameyang this week though.

    Leno - Steele
    Balbuena - Luiz - TAA - Doherty - AWB
    Sterling - Sane - Richarlison - Snodgrass - Gunnarsson
    Auba - Kane - Wilson

What are your thoughts guys, would appreciate insight?

Leno is to allow Leno-Balbuena instead of Fab-Femenia (cash constraints). So i thought it was mildly better, West Ham coverage both ways, and Arsenal keeper for their good fixtures rather than risking Femenia.

Arsenal's defence is all over the place. 2 CS all season

I tend to agree with you for sure. But i just wonder if maybe for these easy fixtures they'll finally get it back together, also Koscielny is finally about to be back for Qarabag. But yeah, i really cant blame you for finding fault with their defense either, it's pretty shambolic. Just at his price-point i may take the risk and hope they string together a few good games vs the soft sides they're about to face. Prefer it to trying Femenia that's all...haha

It's Fabianski's save points that make him attractive. Balbuena will not cover that. Set and forget Fab with a 4.0 imho.

Not owning Wilson has been my single big regret of the season. My past season failings with Wilson prevented me from bringing him. With him probably could have gone on all the way to challenge for title instead stuck at 1500(As owned Mitro and Arnie at all the wrong times) Still fear that as soon as I get him he will blank so went Aubameyang for captaincy upside. Stay quiet Wilson. Stay quiet.

Secret for what? Top 10k? Get players with most big chances created and awarded. Get defenders with teams having fewest big chances conceded. And combine them with players with good fixtures. Also always play TC and BB in DGWs and Free hit in week of FA semi finals. Should help you get over terrible rank finishes 😉

I need to get rid of Arnie, would like West Ham cover but also the option to get Kane in easily if needed.

I have Auba, but does anyone feel there is value in Laca as well?

Arnie+Eriksen (-4) to Laca and Snodgrass gives me enough funds to do Auba to Kane if needed.

Alternatively will probably just risk having a 1 man bench.

I think i'll be going Wilson and Snodgrass and using the extra 1.7 to upgrade elsewhere. (i.e. Difference between Laca and Auba). Don't know if this is enticing to you or not. Don't love double Bournemouth even though they have been somewhat fixture proof i still don't see too many points from a double up over Xmas. Could be wrong, but i'm also on WC and not risking it?

My WC team is higher up on this page, would love your thoughts and to see your team if you don't mind sharing.

    Aubameyang or Lacazette?

I've been looking at the stats and Lacazette appeals to me a lot. But Aubameyang does too of course and has high ownership. I'm slightly surprised there hasn't been more debate as to which one to go for, the general consensus seems to be Aubameyang hands-down.

What are people's thoughts? Particularly any insight on why Aubameyang is the best option would be interesting to hear.

I went with Auba. Hard to ignore the lead goal scorer with great fixtures coming up.

Depends what else you're doing with your team.

I really want Kane on my WC team but it's a bit too much to have him and Auba, who I currently own.

However, having Lacazette instead makes Kane a bit easier to get in, although still a squeeze especially if you add Sterling too.

If it was money no object, ownership equal and expected future minutes equal, is Aub your preferred option?

Could go either way. Probably Laca this week & Auba long term.

Yeah I am concerned Aub could be rested this week, which considering I'd be taking at least one hit, is a worry.

Is Robbo to Kolasinac for -4 worth it if I do it this week? I don't think Liverpool will keep a clean sheet this week and I think Arsenal will, yet if Liverpool do I've got no remaining Liverpool cover at the back. Arsenal's fixtures clearly better over the next few gameweeks... it's either now for a hit or not at all, thoughts?

No way, Arsenal haven't kept a clean sheet in ages, and Liverpool are rather good at it.

Bit of a dilemma, this is my team:

    Hart
Alonso TAA Dunk Laporte Wan Biss
    Richarlison Deu Salah Sterling Anderson
    Kane Wilson

    Extras: Hamer, Kamara

So I have exactly enough ITB to fund Salah and Deu to Eriksen and Sane tomorrow once I get two free transfers , issue is that Eriksen looks set to rise tonight. So do I:

    A) wait until tomorrow anyway and take a -4 to make three changes. Potentially with Alonso to Azpi

    B) change Salah to Eriksen before tomorrow (though I wanted Salah as captain)

A sounds more sensible to me. Bit more time to assess things and a -4 Is fine.

I need to downgrade one of these players by 1.3 to afford Arnie to Laca:

    A) Hazard - thinking Felipe Anderson or Son
    B) Dilva - for Felipe Anderson
    c) Tony Martial for maybe Paterson or little Ryan Fraser

    Anyone got views?

Currently have Auba but really tempted to try and do Kane and Lacazette on my WC tomorrow.

Kane fixtures and undroppableness are really tempting me.

    I want my Harry back!

Ederson (che) or Fabianski (CRY) ?

Want Ederson but was thinking of keeping Fabianski on WC for the next couple of GW's, keeping 1.3m to make the move?
